We Could Be Something

31: I Don’t Want To Get Ahead Of Myself

“Remind me why you thought heading out to dinner was a good idea?” Adriana quipped as she stepped into the living room of her apartment, her blue eyes peeking towards Iker who sat on the couch, flicking through the television channels.

It had been a small while, after she had started her maternity leave, a couple of weeks had passed, and with her due date only a couple of weeks away, Iker had been insistent about taking her out for the night, something which pleased her.

She knew why he wanted to go out, before too long, she would have a baby that would take up almost all of her attention, and whilst she was apprehensive about the impending arrival, she was slightly excited by the prospect of spending the night with Iker.

Iker, who’d moved to flick the television off, spared a small amused chuckle before he shook his head, moving to stand up. “I only suggested it” he quipped “You were the one who said it sounded like a good idea” he added, moving to press a soft kiss against her lips.

Adriana smiled a little at the soft kiss before she ducked away slightly, something which made him smile gently. “We can stay in if you’d prefer it” he offered softly “I know that you’re not at your most comfortable…”

“Iker” Adriana interjected softly “If I didn’t want to go, I would have said so, but the idea of date night sounds pretty good to me. Do you still want to go?” she posed gently.

Iker studied her face for a moment, checking for any sign of uncertainty, before he shook his head, a small smile on his face. “I’d love to go” he noted softly “But if you, at any point, feel uncomfortable, you’ll tell me right?” he added.

Adriana, who’d moved to lace their fingers together, quirked a small amused smile before she nodded. “Of course I will” she noted gently “But right now, I am sort of hungry and would kind of like to head out to dinner with my boyfriend. Can we manage that?” she mused, a teasing grin fixed on her face.

Iker chuckled a little at her words before he ducked down, pressing another soft kiss against her lips. “I think we can manage that” he quipped softly.

“So, have you come up with any names yet?” Iker posed as he rested back into his seat, sipping on the mug of coffee that had been set on the table ahead of him. It had been a pleasant night, even despite Adriana’s slight hesitation, they’d had a great time, and it pleased Iker who’d been keen to give Adriana a good night.

Adriana, who’d been finishing the last of her dessert, shrugged a little. “I’ve come up with a few” she noted “But I’ve not got anything concrete yet” she added.

“Can I hear them?” Iker posed, his expression curious and soft. It still felt a little odd, the idea that, in only a matter of days, Adriana would be a mother, but Iker was slowly getting used to it, even if things between them were still in the fledgling stage, he was slowly getting used to the prospect of spending time around the baby.

He knew that it was going to cause a slight issue, regardless of their relationship, Jonathan was still the father of Adriana’s baby, but still Iker wanted to be supportive, even if he wasn’t quite sure how things would change, he wanted Adriana to know that he was behind her.

Adriana tilted her head. “You want to hear them?” she posed.

“If you’re Ok with telling me” Iker noted “I know that it has very little to do with me, but I’d love to hear them, Addie” he babbled gently.

Adriana shook her head, a small smile appearing at the corner of her mouth. “You’re adorable, you know that?” she teased.

Iker rolled his eyes slightly, something which made Adriana reached across the table, her hand gently squeezing his comfortingly. “I know that this is strange” she noted softly “But I am still glad that you’re around. I’ve grown used to us” she added gently.

Iker, who’d been staring at their hands, smiled a little before he shook his head. “I am not going anywhere, Addie” he mumbled softly “I know we’ve not been together long but I…”

“I love you too” Adriana interjected, a grin on her face.

Iker, who’d been caught off guard by her interruption, blinked a couple of times before he shook his head, a small smile on his face. “You couldn’t let me say it first?” he quipped teasingly.

Adriana quirked an impish grin before she shook her head. “I’ve been thinking about saying it for a little while” she noted.

“You have?” Iker posed.

“Since New Year’s” Adriana confirmed with a small nod “But I didn’t want to say it too early. This thing between us it’s…it’s not going to be the most straightforward thing once bump comes along and I didn’t want to get ahead of myself” she added, her expression softening a little.

Iker noted the soft look on her face before he squeezed her hand. “You’re right” he noted softly “Once bump arrives, things are going to be a little…strange, but this is a good thing, Addie, we’re good, and I promise that I will try my hardest to ensure that things stay good between us. I love you, Addie” he breathed gently.

Adriana glanced at their hands for a second, allowing the words to hang around them for a moment, before she peeked up at him, a soft smile on her face. “Could you say it again?” she teased, messing with his fingers slightly.

“I love you” Iker quipped, a grin on his face.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little at the sound of his words before she leant over the table slightly, pressing a soft kiss against his lips. She knew that he had a point, things between them were likely to get a little complicated once the baby had arrived, but still she had a good feeling about them, even if it was still early. She liked them.
