We Could Be Something

32: Something New

Letting out a small sound, Adriana tossed onto her side, her blue eyes peeking towards the alarm clock which sat on the end table. It was early, from the darkness which still filled the quiet bedroom, she doubted that it was long past 1 or 2 in the morning, but she knew that there was no getting back sleep. It had been coming, for a few days, she had felt a few twinges of pain here and there, but they were getting worse and she knew what it meant, even it was still a couple of days to her due date, she knew that the pains were the start of her contractions.

Taking in a small breath, she placed a hand against her bump before she pushed herself up, her eyes peeking back towards Iker who was still sleeping soundly. Admiring him for a second, she briefly contemplated allowing him to sleep before another wave of pain washed over her, causing her to let out another noise which startled him.

“Addie?” Iker mumbled, his tone heavy with sleep.

Adriana startled a little at the sound of his voice before she shook her head. “I think we might need to get moving” she noted softly.

Iker, who was still half asleep, blinked a couple of times before he sat up. “What?” he posed.

Adriana smiled gently. “I’m having contractions” she noted softly “They’re still a good 2 minutes apart, but I think we might need to get to the hospital pretty soon” she added, her hand rubbing small soothing circles into her bump.

Iker allowed her words to linger for a couple of seconds before he pushed himself to his feet, quickly moving to find himself a set of clothes to change into.

Adriana, who was still sat on the edge of the bed, watched him rush around the room before she reached a hand out, catching a hold of his in order to pull him to a stop. “Iker, we’ve got time” she noted, a small amused smile on her face.

Iker offered her a slightly dubious look, something which made Adriana giggle a little. “I promise, I am not about to have the baby right here right now. We’ve got plenty of time for you to get dressed and get us to the hospital” she enthused as she tentatively pushed herself to her feet, allowing her the chance to press a kiss against his lips.

Iker heled onto her for a second, enjoying the soft kiss, before he ducked back, offering her a nervous smile. “You’re going to be a madre” he mumbled softly.

Adriana noted the slightly nervous tone to his voice before she leant up, stealing another brief kiss. She knew that he was nervous, for a little while, he had appeared uncertain about the arrival of the baby, but she wanted to offer him a little reassurance, even if she knew that things between them were likely to change, she wanted to comfort him slightly.

It was going to change things, with a baby around, as well as the possibility that Jonathan could change his mind about wanting to be involved, there was no way that things wouldn’t change at least slightly, but Adriana was determined to ensure that it worked out, even if it was likely to be hard, she didn’t want to let Iker slip through her fingers.

Resting his head back against the chair he sat in, Iker spared a small yawn into his hand, his dark eyes peeking towards the clock which sat on the wall. It had been a few hours, after they’d arrived at the hospital, almost 7 hours had passed, but still there was no sign of the baby, something which had left Iker feeling more than slightly tired.

Sparing another yawn into his hand, he stretched his legs a little before the sound of Adriana clearing her throat reached him, causing him to lift his head. “Are you OK?” she posed quietly, her expression soft and sleepy.

“I’m fine” Iker replied softly “It was just an early start. I should be ask you how you’re doing” he added, offering her a small smile.

Adriana returned his smile gently before she offered him her hand, causing Iker to lace their fingers together. “You know, if you wanted to, you could go and sit outside” she offered gently “I’d just need you to call Ella so that I had someone in here with me when the time comes” she added softly. She knew that it was strange, the idea that Iker was the one who was in the room with her, and she wanted to offer him the chance to duck out, not wanting to make him feel awkward or uncomfortable.

Iker, who’d been looking at their hands, shook his head. “You need someone” he noted softly “And seeing as Jonathan isn’t likely to have miraculously changed his mind about being here, I guess I will have to do” he added, a small reassuring smile on his face.

Adriana offered him a slightly dubious look before another contraction passed through her, causing her to let out a yelp as she held onto his hand, squeezing it tightly.

Iker flinched at the strength of her grip before he leant towards her, mumbling soft words of reassurance before the sound of the door opening caught his attention, causing him to peek at Adriana’s midwife who’d moved to check on the blonde. “How is she doing?” he posed carefully.

Isla, who’d been checking Adriana, smiled a little. “I think we’re about ready to go” she mused softly “Adriana, we’re going to move you into the delivery room now, Ok?” she added, offering Adriana a soft look.

Adriana blinked a couple of times before she nodded. “OK” she confirmed.

Isla nodded her head and ducked out of the room, mumbling about needing some help.

Iker watched after the midwife before he flicked his attention back to Adriana, his hand gently squeezing hers. “Are you ready?” he posed softly.

Adriana swallowed a little before she nodded her head. “About as ready as I can be” she mused.

“Do you need me to make any phone calls for you?”

Adriana, who was sat on the bed, startled a little at the sound of her midwife’s voice before she shook her head, offering her a small smile. “I think we’ve got it under control” she noted gently “But thank you for your help” she added.

Isla quirked a small smile before she shook her head. “It’s nothing” she noted softly “Congratulations, Adriana” she added, her eyes briefly peeking down towards the small bundle which sat in Adriana’s arms.

Adriana offered her a brief smile before she flicked her attention downwards, admiring the newborn which sat in her arms, contently sleeping.

“Did you want me to make the calls?”

Adriana startled a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before she looked up, offering him a small smile. “We can leave it for a little while” she noted gently “The last thing I want is this moment ruined by too many people showing up at once, especially when it comes to Jonathan’s family. I don’t want to fight with them right now” she added.

Iker nodded his head quietly before he flicked his attention towards the baby, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “You have a beautiful daughter, Addie” he noted softly.

Adriana smiled a little at the compliment before she leant over, pressing a soft kiss against his cheek. It had been a long day, she had spent a long time in labour before the little girl had arrived, and for a while, she merely wanted to bask in the calm before other people began to show up.
