We Could Be Something

“Are you nearly ready to get out of here?”

Adriana, who was ensuring that everything was packed into her holdall, startled a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before she lifted her head, offering him a small smile. It had been a little while, after Olivia had been born, they’d spent a little over a day in hospital, but Adriana was excited by the prospect of heading home, even if they hadn’t been in hospital for too long, she was excited by the prospect of returning to her own bed.

It still felt a little unfamiliar, the idea that she was a mother was going to take some getting used to, but Adriana had to admit that she was a little pleased with how things appeared to be going, even if she had avoided making any phone calls, she had enjoyed spending time with both Olivia and Iker.

“I think so” Adriana noted with a small nod “My midwife came by whilst you were at training and she seemed pretty happy. We should be able to get out of here pretty soon” she added, moving to zip up her holdall.

Iker nodded his head slightly before he stepped towards her, moving to settle on the end of the bed. “What is the plan for when you get home?” he posed, his expression slightly soft and tentative. He knew that it was her decision, informing people that Olivia had arrived was something that Adriana had to do in her own time, but still Iker wanted to encourage her slightly. He knew that she was reluctant, especially when it came to informing Jonathan and his family about the new arrival, but he didn’t want her to put it off forever, even if it was likely to make things tense or awkward, he wanted to ensure that any issues were sorted quickly.

Adriana, who’d moved to check on Olivia, shook her head a little before she turned to look at him, a small frown on her face. “I’m not in a hurry” she noted softly “For a little while, I just want to get used to the idea of her being here before I involve anyone else, and I want to take my time. Do you think we can do that?” she posed softly. She knew what he was trying to do, like always, Iker was trying to look out for her, but Adriana wanted to wait a while, wanting to enjoy the first few days of Olivia’s life before she allowed other people to get involved.

Iker offered her a soft look before he nodded. “I think we can do that” he confirmed softly “Besides, I am sure Olivia would much rather have her mama’s undivided attention on her for a few days” he added, a teasing smile on his face.

Adriana admired the smile on his face for a second before she stepped towards him, pressing a soft kiss against his lips which he was more than happy to respond to. “You know, you’ve been pretty amazing the last couple of days” she mumbled as she pulled away, resting her forehead against his.

Iker spared a small bashful laugh before he ducked in, pressing another kiss against her lips before the sound of Olivia’s cries caught their attention, causing him to pull away from her softly.

Adriana pecked his lips briefly once more before she moved to collect Olivia, a sight which made Iker smile a little. He knew that it would get tense, with Jonathan’s parents likely to make an appearance as well as Adriana’s father and brother, things were likely to get hectic, but still Iker was glad that he was around for both Adriana and Olivia.

“Did you need me to get you anything?” Iker posed softly as he padded into Adriana’s living room, his dark eyes settling on the blonde who sat on the couch, Olivia nestled in her arms.

Adriana, who was cooing softly to Olivia, shook her head. “I am OK right now” she noted softly “But, if you’re not busy, you can sit here for a little while” she added, offering him an impish smile.

Iker rolled his eyes a little at her comment before he padded towards the couch, moving to sit at her side. “How’s she doing?” he posed softly, his dark eyes peeking down towards Olivia who stirred a little in her sleep.

“I think she is very happy” Adriana mused, moving to rest her head against his shoulder “I mean, she’s only a day old, and she’s spent a large percentage of that asleep, but I think she is content” she added, a small yawn falling out of her mouth.

Iker smiled a little at the sound of her yawn before he tilted his head, pressing a soft kiss against her temple. “Why don’t you take a nap for a little while?” he posed softly, his hand gently rubbing her side.

Adriana offered him a look. “You’d not mind that?” she posed tentatively.

“Of course I wouldn’t” Iker quipped “Your midwife said that you ought to be sleeping when she is asleep” he added gently.

“Are you sure that you’ll be OK?” she posed softly, her expression slightly tentative. It was tempting, the prospect of taking a nap for a while was more than enticing, but she didn’t want to take advantage of Iker, even if he was offering, she didn’t want him to feel as though he had to do anything.

Iker smiled a little at the look on her face before he carefully leant in, stealing a soft kiss. “I am sure I’ll be fine, Addie” he mused as he pulled away “Besides, if I need you, I’ll wake you up” he added softly.

Adriana offered him a look, wordlessly enquiring if he was sure or not, before she shifted a little, carefully moving to settle Olivia in his arms. “If you need me…”

“I’ll wake you up, Addie, I promise” Iker interjected, offering her a small smile.

Adriana returned his smile softly before she carefully moved to lay down, another small yawn falling out of her mouth. She knew that it wouldn’t last, once she started to make phone calls to inform people of Olivia’s arrival, she was sure that things would get more complicated and tense, but for a little while, she was content to enjoy the calm and quiet that had surrounded her since Olivia had made her first appearance.
