We Could Be Something

38: You’re Stuck With Me

Settling his bag down beside the door, Iker quirked a small smile, his ears doused by the soft sound of Olivia’s cries. It had been a couple of days, with an away game, Iker had spent a couple of nights in his apartment, but with the game out of the way, he had opted to head back to Adriana’s, something he had missed slightly. He had gotten used to it, the couple of weeks since Olivia had arrived, Iker had spent only a handful of nights in his own apartment, and whilst he knew that it was probably too soon to broach the idea of him and Adriana moving into together, he had to admit that it was a thought that had crossed his mind.

Ensuring that his bag was out of the way, he padded through the apartment before he ducked into the nursery, smiling a little at the sight of Adriana who sat in the seat beside Olivia’s crib, trying to soothe the little girl who whimpered softly. “Hola” he murmured quietly.

Adriana, who’d been focused on Olivia, visibly jumped at the sound of his voice before she turned around, offering him a tired smile. “How’d you get in here?” she posed softly.

“I know where you keep the spare key” Iker noted gently “Aren’t you happy to see me?” he added, offering her a teasing smile.

Adriana rolled her eyes, something which made Iker chuckle a little before he leant towards her, stealing a brief kiss. “I hope you don’t mind me coming over” he noted softly “If you’d like me too, I could go home” he offered, his expression slightly nervous. It was still new, despite the fact that they had been dating for 5 months, Iker was still getting used to their relationship, and the last thing he wanted to do was push it too far. He liked where they were, since Olivia had come along, things between him and Adriana had gone from strength, and he liked them, even if it was still early. He had a good feeling about them.

Adriana scoffed. “Why would I mind you coming over?” she posed, her tone light and teasing “In case you’ve failed notice, I kind of like seeing you” she added, resting her head back against the chair.

Iker offered her an impish smile before he leant in, briefly pecking her lips before Olivia let out another soft cry, causing him to duck back slightly. “Do you want me to take her for a little while?” he posed softly.

Adriana shook her head. “She should be asleep in a couple of seconds” she noted softly “She didn’t get a lot of sleep overnight and I think she’s tired” she added, carefully readjusting Olivia in her arms.

Iker smiled at the sight of the two of them before he leant in, pressing a kiss to the side of Adriana’s head. “I’ll go and find us something to eat for dinner” he noted gently “Dulces sueños, little one” he added, his fingers gently smoothing out the tufts of blonde hair which had formed on the baby’s head before he ducked out of the room.

Adriana watched after him for a couple of seconds before she flicked her attention towards Olivia, a small smile on her face. It was still new, she and Iker had only been dating a matter of months, but she could easily see herself getting used to have him around.

“So, how did the game go?” Adriana quipped as she moved to settle a mug of tea on the coffee table, her blue eyes peeking towards Iker who was checking the messages on his phone.

“It went OK” Iker quipped “It was a little tougher than we were expecting, but we got the win which is the important thing” he enthused gently.

“And how are you feeling?” Adriana posed gently, moving to cuddle into his side a little. She knew that it was still odd for him, even if he had been with Porto for almost a season, she knew that it was still strange for him, and she wanted to ensure that he was settling down and getting used to playing in somewhere that wasn’t Madrid.

Iker shrugged. “It’s getting better” he noted “I mean, it’s not the same as playing for Madrid, but I am getting used to it, and I am starting to get used to the city too” he enthused, a soft smile on his face.

“I’m glad” Adriana mused “I’d kind of like it if you stuck around for a little while yet” she added, the tone of her voice half teasing and half sincere.

Iker smiled gently at her words before he shifted his hand, offering her a little squeeze. “You don’t have to worry” he mused softly “I don’t intend to go anywhere for a while yet. I think you might be stuck with me for a little while” he teased, pressing a soft kiss against the side of her head.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little before she tilted her head, moving to sneak a soft kiss. “You’re not so bad” she mumbled, leaning away from him slightly.

“I am glad you think so” Iker teased with a small laugh.

Adriana offered him a small impish grin before the sound of Olivia’s cries echoed throughout the apartment, something which caused them to pull away from one another. “I’ll get her” Iker mused softly.

“Are you sure?” Adriana posed, straightening her sweater a little.

Iker offered her a small look before he nodded his head. “I’ll be fine” he enthused before he ducked out of the room.

Adriana watched after him for a couple of seconds, a small smile playing at the corner of her mouth, before the sound of the doorbell reached her ears, causing her to sigh a little. It had been frequent, since she had told her friends and family about Olivia’s birth, more than one person had dropped in unannounced to meet the little girl, and whilst Adriana was pleased to see that people were so excited about her arrival, part of her wanted a quiet night.

Shaking her head, she pushed herself up to her feet before she padded towards the door, pulling it open. “It’s getting a little late for a visit” she noted without looking up.

“We’re sorry”

Adriana blinked a little at the sound of the voice before she looked up, her eyes widening a little at the sight of the older couple who stood ahead of her, sheepish looks on their faces. “P…Penelope” she squeaked “Marcos, I…I wasn’t expecting you” she babbled softly.

“We know” Penelope noted softly “And we’re sorry for showing up unannounced, but do you think we can come in? We’d really like to talk to you, Ana” she added, her tone slightly hopeful.

Adriana, who still looked awed, blinked a couple of times before she stepped out of the door way, allowing the older couple to step inside. She had known that it was coming, from the moment that Olivia had arrived, the visit from Jonathan’s parents had been inevitable, but she had been hoping for a little more warning, even if it was likely to be awkward anyway, she had hoped to be a little more prepared.
