We Could Be Something

40: Small Steps

Sparing a small yawn into his hand, Iker padded out of the bathroom, making his way towards the holdall which sat at the foot of the bed. It was routine, since Olivia had arrived a couple of weeks previous, Iker had spent more nights in Adriana’s apartment than in his own, but he had to admit that it was something he liked, even if Olivia did have a habit of waking up more than once a night, he had grown used to spending most of his time with both Adriana and Olivia.

It was still a work in progress, with people still visiting Adriana and Olivia frequently, it had been slightly difficult for Iker to get a lot of time alone with Adriana, but still he was confident in them, even if it was still in the early stages, he was confident that he and Adriana were onto a good thing.

Unzipping the holdall, he moved to collect a clean t-shirt before the sound of Adriana clearing her throat reached him, causing him to turn around slightly. “I didn’t know you were awake” he quipped, pulling the t-shirt over his head.

Adriana, who was sat up against the pillows, shrugged. “I heard you in the shower” she noted softly “And it is about time for me to get up anyway. It won’t be too long before Olivia starts to wake up” she added gently, her eyes peeking towards the clock which stood on the nightstand.

Iker, who’d moved to pull on a pair of shorts, smiled a little. “When did she finally let you get back to sleep?” he quipped, moving to sit down beside her.

“It was a little after two” Adriana noted, sparing a small yawn into her hand “But she wasn’t awake for too long. I think she was just missing people being around her” she added, a small smile on her face. It was still a little strange, even despite the fact that Olivia had been born almost 3 weeks previous, Adriana was still adjusting, but she was pleased with how things were going, even if part of her was still worried about what would happen with Jonathan and his family, she was pleased that things appeared to be going well.

Iker, who’d moved to rest back against his pillow, admired the soft smile on her face for a second before he quirked a grin. “You know, you’ve looked pretty happy in the last few weeks” he teased, playfully nudging her ribs.

“You think so?” Adriana posed, her tone somewhere between soft and sarcastic.

Iker nodded. “Since I’ve known you, you’ve been bright and cheerful, but in the last couple of weeks, you’ve seemed more content with things” he enthused gently.

Adriana quirked a small smile at his words before she turned her head, meeting his dark eyes with her blues. “I feel pretty content” she noted gently “I mean, when I found out that I was pregnant, this isn’t quite how I imagined things, but I kind of like it this way” she added gently, sparing him an impish grin.

Iker offered her a slight eye roll, something which made Adriana giggle softly before she leant towards him, stealing a quick kiss. “You know I love you really” she teased as she ducked away from him.

Iker shook his head a little before he sat up, moving to pull his holdall towards him.

Adriana, who’d sat up slightly, watched him for a second before she shook her head. “You know, you don’t have to leave your things in your bag. I am sure that if I tried, I could clear you some space in my dresser” she noted, her tone slightly tentative.

She knew that it was soon, she and Iker had only been dating for 5 months, but part of her wanted to think about moving forwards, even if the step they took wasn’t quite as big as moving in together, she wanted to ensure that Iker was as comfortable as he could be in her home.

Iker, who’d been looking through his bag, lifted his head a little. “What?” he posed softly.

“I was just thinking” Adriana noted “Since Olivia has come along, you’ve spent a lot of time here and I just thought that maybe…maybe you’d like to leave a few things here so that you don’t have to keep packing a bag. It’s more than OK if you don’t want to, but I thought that it would make things a little easier” she babbled, her cheeks tinting pink.

Iker blinked a couple of times, trying to keep pace with her words, before he shook his head, something made Adriana shake her head a little. “It was a silly idea” she babbled softly.

“Addie…”

“It’s fine” Adriana interjected “It is too soon for that, no?” she posed, offering him a timid look.

Iker admired the soft look on her face for a second before he leant forwards, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. “Firstly, I love that you still babble when you get nervous” he teased as he leant back.

“Iker” Adriana warned softly.

Iker chuckled a little before he shifted his hand, moving to take hers which fiddled nervously with the duvet which sat around. “I’d love to leave a few of my things here, Addie” he enthused softly.

“You would?” Adriana posed.

Iker nodded. “You’re right, it is a little soon to be thinking about taking bigger steps like moving in together properly, but I do spend a lot of my time here and I would make things easier if I didn’t have to keep packing a bag. You’d not mind giving up some of your closet space for me?” he quipped.

Adriana shook her head. “I am sure that I could make some room” she mused, a teasing smile on her face.

Iker marveled at the soft smile on her face before he leant towards her, pressing another kiss against her lips. He knew that it wasn’t the biggest of steps, leaving a few changes of clothes in Adriana’s apartment was only a small step forwards, but still he was pleased that they were making it. It was a good step in the right direction.
