We Could Be Something

49: Grin & Bear It

“You know” Iker noted gently “If you’re not OK to do this right now, you don’t have to. I am sure that we could put it off for a little while” he added, his dark eyes peeking towards Adriana who moved around ahead of him, tidying the room around them.

It had been a couple of days, after Jonathan had texted, Adriana had been quick to ask for a little time before he and his girlfriend arrived, but she knew that there was no avoiding it, even if she had little interest in meeting the woman who’d replaced her in Jonathan’s life, she knew that she had to at least attempt to be accommodating.

Adriana, who’d been folding a few of Olivia’s clothes, peeked up at him for a second before shook her head a little. “I can’t avoid it forever” she noted gently, her expression soft and nervous.

Iker admired the expression on her face before he stepped a little deeper into the room, his hand gently moving to take a hold of hers. “You know that this is the right thing to do, don’t you?” he mumbled, carefully pulling her into a soft hug. He knew that she was nervous, from the moment that she had received Jonathan’s message, she had appeared uncertain, and he wanted to reassure her, even if he knew that the afternoon which stood ahead of them had the potential to be more than slightly awkward, he wanted her to know that she was doing the right thing.

Adriana, who’d moved to cuddle into him, nodded. “I know” she mumbled softly “But it still doesn’t make it more comfortable” she added, resting her head against his shoulder.

Iker held her close for a second before he ducked down, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “You just need to grin and bear it” he mumbled softly “It is going to be awkward, there’s no way it can’t be, but it is the right thing to do, Addie, and I know you know that. You just need to get through it as best you can” he encouraged softly, a soft smile playing at the corner of his mouth.

Adriana mulled his words over for a moment before she let out a small sigh, nodding her head gently. “You’re right” she noted softly.

“I tend to be” Iker quipped, offering her a small smirk.

Adriana rolled her eyes a little before she leant up, pressing a gentle kiss against his lips. Iker held onto her for a second, a small smile forming on his face before the sound of the doorbell echoed, causing him to duck back a little. “I’ll go and get Olivia” he noted softly.

Adriana, who’d stepped away from him slightly, offered him a slightly nervous look before she nodded. “OK” she noted softly.

Iker offered her another reassuring smile before he ducked out of the room.

Adriana watched after him for a second before she shook her head, padding towards the door. Swallowing a little, she briefly contemplated not answering it, before she moved to pull it open, her blue eyes settling on Jonathan and the woman who stood at his side, a shy smile on her face. “Jon” she breathed softly.

Jonathan quirked a small shy smile before he moved his arm, wrapping it around the waist of the ginger woman who stood beside him. “Do you think we can come in?” he posed gently.

Adriana, who’d been watching his arm, blinked a couple of times before she nodded her head, stepping out of the door way. “Of course” she noted softly “Iker and Olivia are in the living room” she added.

Jonathan offered her a brief smile before he led his fiancée into the living room, something which made Adriana sigh a little. She knew that it was the right thing, regardless of her feelings, she knew that she had to allow Jonathan’s fiancée to at least meet Olivia, but still she was dreading it, even if it was likely to only be a couple of hours, part of her merely wanted to get it over and done with.

Closing her eyes, she took in a breath before she moved to pad towards the living room. “Aren’t you going to introduce us, Jon?” she posed, moving to settle beside Iker and Olivia.

“Of course” Jonathan noted “Adriana, Iker, this is Thalia. My fiancée” he enthused.

Adriana eyed the other woman for a moment before she quirked a feeble smile. “It’s nice to meet you, Thalia” she noted, offering her hand out towards the other woman.

Thalia, who stood nervously beside Jonathan, glanced at Adriana’s hand for a moment before she took it, shaking it briefly. “It’s nice to meet you too, Adriana” she mused gently.

Letting out a small sigh, Iker rested back against the counter, his eyes closing for a couple seconds. It had been a long afternoon, with Thalia and Jonathan around, the atmosphere in the apartment had felt tenser than usual, and Iker was glad for a second’s break, even if it wasn’t likely to last for very long. He was merely glad for a couple of seconds away from the awkward conversation and forced smiles.

Pushing a hand through his hair, he spared a small glance towards the kettle before the sound of footsteps caught his ears, causing him to turn, smiling a little at Adriana who’d padded into the room, a tired expression on her face. “You’re not having fun?” he teased.

Adriana, who’d moved to collect a bottle of water, offered him a pointed look, something which made him chuckle a little before he stepped towards her, wrapping his arms around her waist. “You Ok?” he posed gently.

Adriana shrugged a little. “It’s strange” she mumbled “But it’s going to be that way for a little while” she added.

“It is” Iker confirmed, pressing a gentle kiss against her temple.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little at the action before she moved to hug him a little tighter. It was going to be strange, for a while, Adriana was sure that she would feel more than slightly awkward having Thalia around, but she knew that she merely had to get used to it, not wanting to cause a problem between herself and Jonathan.
