We Could Be Something

51: You’re Better Off Without Him

Pushing the door closed behind him, Iker moved to settle his bag down beside the door, a small relieved sigh falling out of his mouth. It had been a long day, with an away game, Iker had spent a lot travelling, and he was pleased to be home, even if the evening was likely to be spent unpacking the boxes of his stuff which still littered the apartment, he was looking forwards to relaxing for a little while. Kicking his shoes off, he moved to hang up his jacket before he padded through to the living room, his eyes landing on Adriana who was curled up on the couch, soft snores falling out of her mouth.

Quirking an amused smile, he watched her for a couple of seconds before he stepped towards the couch, moving to collect the throw which sat on the back of it. Shaking his head a little, he carefully moved to settle the blanket over her frame before he ducked down, pressing a soft kiss against her head.

Adriana, who’d been contently sleeping, startled a little at his touch before she blinked her blue eyes open, something which made Iker smile a little. “I didn’t mean to wake you” he mumbled softly “I was just making sure that you were warm enough before I headed to our room. You can go back to sleep if you want to” he offered softly.

Adriana blinked a couple of times before she shook her head, sparing a small yawn into her hand. “It’s OK” she noted softly.

“Are you sure?” Iker posed “Because if you wanted me too…”

“I’d like you to sit here” Adriana interjected, offering him a soft smile.

Iker offered her a slightly dubious look, wordlessly enquiring if she was sure, before he nodded his head, moving to settle into the seat beside her. “How was your day here?” he posed softly.

Adriana, who’d moved to cuddle into his side, allowed his question to linger for a moment before she shrugged. “It was quiet” she noted softly “I spent a lot of it trying to unpack your boxes which are still everywhere and then Jon came by” she added, peeking up at him slightly.

Iker tilted his head. “He did?” he posed softly. It wasn’t the first time, since Jonathan had changed his mind about spending time with Olivia, he had developed a habit of showing up unannounced, and whilst Iker trusted Adriana, he had to admit it irked him a little, even if he knew he couldn’t put a stop to it. Part of him hated the idea of her ex-boyfriend being around Adriana when he wasn’t.

Adriana nodded her head. “He was on his way home and he thought he would drop in” she confirmed softly.

“How was it?” Iker posed, moving to lace their fingers together. He knew that it was something she had been dreading, since Jonathan had appeared once more, Adriana had been dreading the prospect of spending time alone with him, and Iker wanted to make sure that it had gone as well as it could have done. The last thing he wanted was for Jonathan to start causing a problem or upsetting Adriana.

Adriana, who had been watching their hands quietly, shook her head. “It wasn’t good” she noted softly “It was awkward and tense, but it is going to be like that for a while yet, isn’t it?” she added, her blue eyes peeking up towards him timidly

Iker offered her hand a small squeeze before nodded his head, a reassuring look on his face. “It is” he agreed softly “I mean, you did spend 4 years with the guy and your feelings aren’t going to disappear overnight, but I am sure that it will get better eventually, Addie” he mused, his tone soft and reassuring. He knew that it was going time, regardless of how their relationship had ended, it was going to take time for Adriana to fully get over it, but Iker wanted to reassure her that it would get better, even if it was a slow process, he was confident that, eventually, it would become a little easier.

“You think so?” Adriana posed, her expression slightly curious.

Iker nodded his head. “Right now, whether you want to admit it or not, you’re still hurting. It wasn’t too long ago that it was you he was about to marry, but eventually you’ll realize that you’re better off without him” he enthused, his fingers messing with hers shyly.

Adriana watched their hands for a couple of seconds before she carefully leant towards him, pressing a gentle kiss against his lips. “I don’t know if I say this enough, but I do love you” she mumbled as pulled away from him slightly, her forehead resting against his gently.

Iker quirked a small smile at her words before he ducked in, stealing another kiss. “You know, I could never tire of hearing that” he teased, pulling away from her slightly.

Adriana rolled her eyes a little, something which made Iker chuckle slightly before he carefully ducked towards her, stealing another kiss.

Adriana jumped a little, slightly caught off guard by the kiss, before she shifted her arms, wrapping them around his neck.

Iker smiled a little at the embrace before he shifted his arms, wrapping them carefully around her waist. “I love you too, Addie” he mumbled softly “And I hope you know that. This is a good thing, nena, me and you are a good thing” he enthused, a warm smile perched on his face.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little at his words before she moved to push herself up to her feet, offering her hand back towards him.

Iker glanced at her hand, a slightly curious expression etched onto his face, before he moved to lace their fingers together, something which made Adriana smile a little. She knew that he was right, for a while, things between her and Jonathan were likely to feel forced or tense, but she knew that they had to keep going, even if it was awkward, she knew that it was for the best.
