We Could Be Something

53: How Could They Not?

Pushing his sunglasses up his nose slightly, Iker peeked around the airport terminal, his foot tapping impatiently. It had been a few weeks, after leaving Porto, he had spent 3 weeks with the national side before they’d been knocked out of the tournament, and whilst he was a little disappointed that the tournament had ended earlier than he had been anticipated, part of him couldn’t wait to spend a time with Adriana and Olivia.

It had been a while, after he had departed for the warm up matches, his chances to speak with Adriana for longer than a few minutes had been few and far between, and he couldn’t wait to see her, even if they had spoken via video chat, he couldn’t wait to be face to face with her again.

Shifting his feet a little, he spared another glance around the terminal before he felt something tap against his shoulder, causing him to turn around a little, his dark eyes settling on Adriana who had stopped a little away from him, Olivia settled in her arms. Blinking a couple of times, he admired the two of them for a couple of seconds before he quirked a small smile, something which made Adriana roll her eyes. “You’re not even going to say hello?” she quipped, a teasing smile on her face.

Iker rolled his eyes playfully before he took a step towards her, carefully wrapping her in a loose hug. “Hola, Addie” he mumbled, pressing a soft kiss to the side of her head.

Adriana, who’d moved to lean into him a little more, smiled softly at the feel of his lips against her head before she carefully stepped back, moving to lace their fingers together. “Do you want to get out of here?” she posed softly.

Iker spared a look down towards their hands before he nodded, a small smile on his face. “I’d love to get out of here” he noted gently “We’ll go and collect your bags and then we can head back to my house where I think we ought to settle this little one down for a nap” he mused, offering a small look down towards Olivia who sat in Adriana’s arms, blinking sleepily.

Adriana offered the little girl a soft look before she nodded her head, quirking a small smile towards Iker. “I think that that sounds like a plan” she enthused.

Iker, who’d moved to lead her towards baggage claim, quirked a soft smile in return before he leant towards her, pressing another gentle kiss to the top of her head. He knew that it was a little silly, despite having been apart for a few weeks, he and Adriana had spoken frequently, but he had to admit that he had missed her, even if they had talked a lot, he had missed being in the same place as her.

“Did she settle down OK?”

Iker, who’d been padding down the stairs, startled a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a small smile. “It took a little work” he noted softly “She seemed a little more fussy today, but she’s asleep now and should be for a little while” he enthused, moving to settle the monitor down on the side.

Adriana, who was curled up on the couch, nodded her head a little before she shifted, making a little room for him at her side which he was quick to take, his arm gently wrapping around her.

Adriana smiled a little at the feel of his arm before she moved to shift a little closer to him, her head resting on his shoulder as a small silence settled around them for a couple of moments before the sound of Iker’s phone echoed from its spot on the coffee table ahead of them.

Shaking his head a little, Iker leant forwards and picked the phone up, briefly scanning the text.

“Anyone interesting?” Adriana posed.

Iker, who’d been typing his reply, quirked a small smile. “It’s Sergio” he noted softly “He was asking if we were still on for tomorrow” he added softly. He knew that she was a little nervous, even despite insisting that she wanted to visit Madrid, he knew that the prospect of meeting his friends unsettled her a little, and he wanted to be tentative, even if he was excited by the idea of introducing her, he wanted to ensure that she was as calm and as comfortable as she could be.

Adriana offered him a slightly shy look, something which made him shake his head a little. “You know, they’re going to love you” he mumbled gently.

“You don’t know that” Adriana countered, her fingers nervously messing with her necklace.

Iker watched her for a second, admiring the slightly shy expression she wore, before he shook his head, his hand gently moving to take a hold of hers. “You have no reason to be nervous, Addie” he enthused softly “My friends, they’re good people, and I am sure that they will make you feel welcome. They’re going to love you” he insisted, his hand gently squeezing hers.

Adriana spared a small glance down towards their hands before she shook her head, a small sigh falling out of her mouth. “I know it’s stupid” she mumbled softly “But I am nervous about meeting them, Iker” she added.

“I know that you are” Iker mused softly “But I promise you, it’s going to be fine. Tomorrow, we’re going to spend time with Sergio and Pilar, and I am certain they’ll warm to you. How could they not?” he quipped, a playful smirk on his face.

Adriana rolled her eyes playfully.

Iker watched her for a couple of seconds before he lifted their hands, pressing a light kiss against the back of her hand. He knew that she was nervous, the chances were that she would be for a while, but he wanted to reassure her that it was going to be fine. It was only a small step, the idea of her meeting his friends or spending time with his family was small compared to fact that they’d already moved in together, but part of him like the idea that she was a little nervous, even if she had no reason to be, he liked the idea that she was taking it seriously.
