We Could Be Something

56: Why Don’t You Just Say It?

Wrinkling her nose a little, Adriana blinked her blue eyes open, her ears doused by the sound of the doorbell which rang throughout the apartment. It was early, too early for Adriana who, since Olivia’s sleeping pattern had settled down, had gotten used to sleeping in, but she knew that the doorbell couldn’t be ignored, even if she was comfortable beneath the duvet, she knew that she couldn’t just ignore it. Blinking a couple more times, she spared a small yawn into her hand before she moved to sit up.

“It’s OK”

Adriana, who’d moved to push herself up to her feet, jumped a little at the sound of Iker’s voice, something which made the goalkeeper chuckle a little. “I didn’t mean to scare you” he noted softly “I was just going to say that you don’t need to get up. I’ll go and get the door” he added, offering her a small smile as he pushed himself up to his feet.

“Are you sure?” Adriana asked, moving to rest her head back against her pillow.

Iker spared her a small look, not missing just how comfortable she looked, before he nodded his head, a small smile on his face. “I’ll be fine” he teased softly.

Adriana offered him a slightly impish smile, something which made Iker shake his head a little before he moved to collect a shirt, allowing him to step out of the room. It had been a little while, after their trip to Madrid, a few weeks had passed, but Iker had to admit that he was impressed with how things were going. They were settled, things between him and Adriana felt comfortable and familiar, and he had to admit that it pleased him, even if he knew that they were still taking their time when it came to moving things forwards, he was pleased that things were going along as well as they were.

Pulling his shirt on over his head, he padded through the apartment before he pulled the door back, his dark eyes widening a little at the sight of Jonathan who stood on the other side. “Jonathan?” he posed softly.

Jonathan, who had been staring down at his feet, startled a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before he lifted his head, a soft expression on his face. “I know it is early” he noted softly “But I was hoping…I was hoping I could speak to Ana” he added.

Iker frowned a little at the tone of his voice before he stepped out of the doorway, allowing the other man to step over the threshold. “I’ll just go and get her” he noted, offering Jonathan a seat in the living room.

Jonathan offered him a half-hearted smile before he stepped into the living room, affording Iker the chance to pad back towards his bedroom, his dark eyes peeking at Adriana who was curled up against her pillow. Watching her for a couple of seconds, he spared a quiet sigh before he stepped towards the bed, gently placing his hand against her shoulder. “Addie?” he murmured softly.

Adriana stirred a little at the sound of his voice before she carefully turned onto her back, her blue eyes looking up at him sleepily. “What?” she posed, a yawn falling out of her mouth.

Iker, who’d moved to sit down on the side of the bed, spared another small sigh. “The door” he noted softly “It was Jonathan and he says that he wants to speak to you” he added softly.

Adriana offered him a look, slightly confused as to why Jonathan would have arrived so early, before she nodded her head. “Alright” she noted softly “I’ll need a couple of minutes to get dressed and then I’ll go and speak to him. Could you check on Olivia?” she posed softly.

Iker nodded his head. “Of course” he noted softly “Are you going to be alright with Jon?” he posed tentatively. He knew that it wasn’t first time, for months, Jonathan had been visiting, but Iker wanted to ensure that Adriana was comfortable, even if it wasn’t the first time she had spoken to him since their breakup. The last thing he wanted was to see her upset.

Adriana, who’d moved to find some clothes, smiled a little at his words before she stepped towards him, pressing a light kiss against his lips. “I’ll be fine” she mused softly.

Iker offered her a slightly dubious look, wordlessly enquiring if she was sure, before he pushed himself to his feet, moving to step out of the room.

Pulling her hair up into a ponytail, Adriana let out a small sigh, her blue eyes peeking at Jonathan who sat on the couch, his fingers fidgeting slightly. It wasn’t like him, since he had started to spend time with Olivia, his visits had tended to be late rather than early, and his early arrival at her home unsettled Adriana slightly. Shaking her head, she stepped a little further into the room before she moved to sit down at his side, something which made Jonathan look up, a nervous expression on his face.

“Iker said that you wanted to speak to me” she noted softly.

Jonathan, who’d been pulling at a loose thread on his shirt, nodded. “I am sorry for dropping by so early, Ana” he babbled softly “And I am sorry for not calling ahead. I know that you hate it when I just show up here…”

“Jon” Adriana interjected gently “Why don’t we skip over the pleasantries? You clearly came here to say something, so why don’t you just say it?” she added, her tone caught between irked and soft.

Jonathan blinked a couple of times before he let out a small sigh, his eyes peeking down towards his hands. “I’ve been offered a new job” he said quietly.

Adriana tilted her head a little, encouraging him to keep talking.

Jonathan offered her a soft look before he shook his head. “The job is in Italy, Adriana” he noted softly “What I am trying to say is that…is that I am going to be moving away” he explained, his blue eyes peeking towards Adriana who blinked a couple of times at the sound of his words, an expression that was hard to place etched onto her features.
