We Could Be Something

63: Look After Them

Sipping on the mug of tea which sat in his hand, Iker rested back against the counter, his dark eyes settled on the sonogram picture which had been stuck to the front of the fridge. It had been a couple of days, after they’d visited Adriana’s midwife, they’d opted to take a couple of days to let thing calm down slightly, but still he found himself a little giddy, even if he knew that they had a while before the baby arrived, he couldn’t help but smile whenever the topic arose.

It still felt a little odd, the idea that Adriana was pregnant was one which had caught him more than a little off guard, but he was excited, even if they did have a way to, part of him was already counting down the days until the baby arrived.

Sipping on his drink, he admired the picture for a couple more moments before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached his ears, causing him to peek up towards Adriana who stood in the doorway, a soft smile on her face. “You know, since I told you about bump, I don’t think you’ve stopped smiling yet” she mused gently.

Iker, who’d moved to stow his empty cup in the sink, shook his head a little. “It’s a pretty big deal” he noted softly “And I am pretty excited” he added, his hand gently moving to rest on the small bump which was just about visible beneath the sweater Adriana wore.

Adriana watched the movement of his hand for a second before she quirked a small smile, moving to press a soft kiss against his lips. “You’re free this morning, aren’t you?” she posed, ducking away from him slightly, her forehead resting against his.

“I’ve not got training” Iker mused softly “Did you have something in mind?” he added, his thumb gently moving back and forth over her small bump.

Adriana admired the small movements of his thumb before she quirked a small smile. “I’ve been doing a little thinking” she noted softly “And, seeing as we’ve safely passed 12 weeks, I thought that maybe…maybe we could call our parents and share the news” she babbled softly, her expression slightly nervous. It worried her slightly, the idea of telling their parents that they were expecting a baby so soon into their relationship, but she knew that they couldn’t avoid it forever, even if part of her was worried they’d react negatively. She wanted to get it over with sooner rather than later.

Iker tilted his head a little. “You want to call our parents?” he posed softly.

Adriana nodded. “I do” she confirmed softly “But, if you want to wait, I understand” she added softly.

Iker allowed her words to linger for a moment before he quirked a small smile. “Addie, mi amor, I’d love to start telling people” he enthused softly.

“You would?” Adriana posed.

Iker quirked another smile before he nodded his head, something which made Adriana smile a little before she pushed herself up onto toes, sneaking another soft kiss which Iker was more than happy to reciprocate. Things had been good, since they’d discovered that Adriana was pregnant, things between them had been as good as they had ever been, and Adriana had to admit that she was pleased. A small part of her had worried that the news of her pregnancy would create a little tension between them.

“Are you sure that you don’t want to wait a little longer?”

Iker, who’d moved to settle Adriana’s laptop on the coffee table, startled a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a small smile. “Did you want to wait a little longer?” he quipped, a teasing smile on his face.

Adriana rolled her eyes a little before she shook her head, moving to settle into the seat at his side.

Iker watched her for a couple of seconds before he shifted his hand, moving to lace their fingers together. “It’s going to be fine, Addie” he mused, his voice warm and reassuring.

“You don’t know that” Adriana countered shyly, her fingers messing shyly with his.

Iker quirked a soft smile at the nervous tone in her voice before he lifted her hand, pressing a soft kiss against the warm skin in an attempt to reassure her.

Adriana offered him a slightly dubious look before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached them, causing her to peek towards the screen of the laptop, her expression brightening at the sight of her father’s face. “Am I interrupting?” Rafael quipped, a warm grin on his face.

Adriana shook her head. “Of course not, papa” she noted softly “It’s good to see you” she added.

“It has been a while, Adriana” the older man noted gently “So, to what do I owe the pleasure of a call from you?” he added.

Adriana allowed his question to linger for a moment before she spared a look towards Iker, something which made him squeeze her hand gently. “I have something to tell you, papa” she noted softly.

Rafael quirked an eyebrow. “You do?” he quipped.

Adriana nodded. “I do” she confirmed softly “I know it is soon, I mean, Olivia’s not even a year old yet and me and Iker…”

“Adriana, why don’t you get to the point?” Rafael interjected, a teasing smirk on his face.

Adriana blinked, a little caught off guard by the interruption before she nodded her head. “Papa, in a few months, you’re…you’re going to have another little grandbaby” she babbled softly.

Rafael blinked a couple of times, caught more than a little off guard by her words. “What?” he squeaked gently.

“You’re going to have another grandchild” Adriana repeated, her expression soft and nervous.

Rafaela was quiet for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, a grin slowly appearing on his face. “You’re pregnant again?” he posed brightly.

Adriana admired the smile on his face before she nodded. “I am” she confirmed softly “I’m nearly 13 weeks” she added, her hand gently settling on her stomach for a couple of seconds before the sound of Olivia’s cries echoed, causing Adriana to excuse herself.

“Iker?” Rafael posed softly.

Iker, who’d been watching Adriana out of the room, jumped a little at the sound of Rafael’s voice before he turned back towards the computer, offering the older man a warm smile. “Yes?” he posed softly.

“You must be pretty excited” the older man mused.

Iker nodded. “I am, sir” he noted softly “I mean, it came a little of the blue, but I am very excited” he added softly.

Rafael admired the smile on the younger man’s face for a couple of seconds before he shook his head. “I don’t quite know where you and Adriana are in your relationship, I mean, you’ve not even been together for a year yet and I would hate to stick my foot in my mouth, but I want to ask you to look after them, Iker” he mused softly “She’s happy, she has been since the two of you got together, and I just want to ask you to keep doing what you’re doing. I want you to keep looking out for my daughter and granddaughter” he added, the tone of his voice soft and kind.

Iker allowed the older man’s words to linger for a couple of seconds before he leant forwards slightly. “Dr Montes” he noted softly “I know that this is soon, but I would like you to know that I am contemplating one day asking your daughter to marry me. I don’t want to rush it, you’re right, we’ve not even been together for a year yet and the last thing I want is to do things too quickly or put too much pressure on Adriana, but I was hoping that I could have your blessing” he added gently. He knew that it was soon, he and Adriana had only been dating for a matter of months, but still he wanted to ask, even if he didn’t plan on proposing for a while, he wanted to know that he had Rafael on board.

Rafael, who’d been mulling over the younger man’s words, quirked a small smile before he shook his head. “You’re not going to do it for a while yet, are you?” he posed.

“No, I’m not” Iker confirmed gently.

Rafael nodded. “Then of course, Iker, you have my blessing” he enthused softly.

Iker let the words to linger in the air for a couple of seconds before he quirked a small grin, glad that he had Adriana’s father on board.
