We Could Be Something

67: I’ll Let It Go For Now

Wiping over the last of the plates, Iker moved to settle it down on the counter before he let out a small relieved sigh, glad that he was finally finished. It had been a long day, with his parents around, Iker had barely had a second to himself, and he was grateful for a little time alone, even if it was only a few minutes, he was grateful for a little bit of quiet.

Drying his hands, he moved to stow the plates in the cupboard before the sound of his phone reached his ears, causing him to sigh a little. It wasn’t the first time, since his agent had first called, Iker’s phone had buzzed 3 more times, but still he hadn’t picked up, not wanting to ruin the day that he and Adriana had been having. Sparing the phone a small look, he briefly contemplated ignoring it again before he lifted it to his ear, mumbling a brisk hello.

“I’m glad that you finally picked up” his agent mused softly “I’ve been trying to get through all day” he added.

“I was busy earlier” Iker noted gently “But I picked up this time. What is going on?” he posed, moving to sit down beside the kitchen table.

“I’ve been speaking to the club” his agent noted “And, I thought I ought to inform you that there are offers on the table for a move at the end of the season” he added.

Iker, who’d been checking that Adriana wasn’t within earshot, blinked a couple of times before he shook his head. “Offers?” he posed quietly.

“There are a few” the other man noted “Mostly from America but there are a couple in Europe. I just thought I ought to let you know. It’s something we’re going to need to start looking at in the New Year” he added, his tone soft.

Iker allowed his words to linger for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, a small sigh falling out of his mouth. “I will call you soon” he noted softly before he moved to hang up the phone, settling it on the table ahead of him. It wasn’t entirely a surprise, for a little while, he had had an inkling that he would be moving again, but still the prospect unsettled him, even if wasn’t until the end of the season, part of him was more than a little apprehensive about the prospect of leaving Porto.

Staring at the phone for a couple of seconds, he pushed a hand back through his hair before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached him, causing him to look up towards Adriana who stood in the door way, a soft smile on her face. “Are you going to hide in here all night?” she posed teasingly.

Iker offered her a small look before he shook his head, forcing the best smile he could muster. “I hadn’t planned on it” he quipped “I was just taking a few moments. Did Olivia go to sleep OK?” he posed gently.

Adriana, who’d moved to pour herself a glass of juice, nodded her head. “She was a little fussier than usual” she mused softly “But she settled eventually and is happily sleeping now” she enthused before she moved to sit in the seat beside him.

Iker offered her a small nod before he carefully reached his hand out, settling it atop the bump which was visible beneath the sweater she wore. “How are you feeling?” he posed softly, his thumb carefully brushing back and forth over the bump.

Adriana, who’d been watching the movement of his thumb, quirked a soft smile before she shook her head. “I’m feeling good” she mused softly “I mean, I get a few aches and pains every now and again, and I did feel a little nauseous earlier, but, all in all, I am feeling pretty good” she added, her blue eyes peeking up at him softly.

Iker nodded his head. “I’m glad” he noted, his voice a little uncertain.

Adriana, who’d moved to lace their fingers together, frowned a little at the tone of his voice before she shook her head. “Iker?” she posed softly “What’s wrong?” she added, her hand squeezing his.

Iker shook his head. “It’s nothing, Addie” he noted softly “At least not something we need to be worrying about right now” he added gently. He knew that they had to talk about it, there was no way that they couldn’t, but he wanted to put it off for a little while, even if he knew that he would have to tell her sooner rather than later, he wanted a couple of days to wrap his head around the idea before he told her about it.

Adriana frowned. “Iker…”

“Addie, it is something that can wait for a little while” Iker interjected softly “It is something we need to talk about, I know that, but I want to enjoy the next few days OK? I promise, after Christmas is done with, we will talk, but for the next few days, I’d like it if you didn’t push for it” he added, his expression soft.

Adriana admired the expression on his face for a couple of seconds before she let out a small sigh, nodding her head. “Alright” she conceded softly “We can wait a couple of days, but you have to promise that you’ll tell me what’s going on up there” she added, lightly poking the side of his head.

Iker quirked a small smile before he nodded his head, capturing her hand in his. “I promise, in a couple of days, I will tell you, but you have to promise that for right now, you’ll let it go” he added, pressing a soft kiss against the palm of her hand.

Adriana ducked forwards and pressed a soft kiss against the top of his head before she leant back, offering him a small nod. “I’ll let it go for now” she noted softly “But I will get it out of you. You’re pretty useless at keeping secrets” she added with a teasing grin.

Iker rolled his eyes playfully before he leant towards her, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. He knew that he had to tell her, there was no way he couldn’t tell her that it was likely he would be leaving when the end of the season arrived, but for a little while he wanted to put it off, wanting to enjoy the holidays before he and Adriana had a conversation about what was best for them both.
