We Could Be Something

68: The Calm Before The Storm

Sparing a soft look towards Adriana who slept soundly beside him, Iker spared a small sigh, his stomach twisting a little at the thought of the conversation he knew that they had to have. He knew that he couldn’t avoid it, even if there was a chance that it was likely to upset Adriana, he knew that they had to talk eventually, but part of him was worried, even if they had agreed to put it off for a couple of days, he was worried that things between him and Adriana would stutter a little when he explained what it was that was going on.

Pushing a hand back through his hair, he admired her for a couple of seconds before he carefully shifted his hand, gently brushing it over the warm skin of Adriana’s bump which stuck out from beneath her bunched up pajama shirt.

Adriana, who’d been contently sleeping, startled a little at the feeling of his cool hand on her skin before she blinked her blue eyes open, a small yawn falling out of her mouth. “What time is it?” she posed softly.

Iker, who’d moved to sit up a little, spared a look towards the clock before he shook his head. “It’s about 7:30” he noted softly “I didn’t mean to wake you” he added.

Adriana offered him a small sleepy smile before she pushed herself up a little. “It’s OK” she mused softly “It’s is Christmas morning after all. It would be strange not to be up early” she added impishly.

Iker quirked a small smile before he shook his head. “Are you sure that you don’t want to go back to sleep?” he posed softly “We’ve still got some time before we agreed that we’d call your papa” he added, his tone soft and kind.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little at his fussing before she leant towards him, pressing soft kiss against his cheek. “I’m fine, Iker” she mused softly “And if I get tired, I promise you, I will take a nap later, but right now, I want to go and get Olivia before we prepare breakfast and open a few presents. Do you think we can do that?” she posed, a warm grin on her face.

Iker marveled at her smile for a couple of seconds before he let out a small chuckle, nodding his head. “I think that that sounds like something we can handle” he mused softly.

Adriana flashed him another grin before she moved to climb off of the bed, pressing a brief kiss against his lips. “Merry Christmas, Iker” she noted brightly before she stepped out of the room.

Iker watched after her for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, a small sigh falling out of his mouth. He knew that they had to talk, whether he wanted to or not, there was no way he could avoid it forever, but still the idea unsettled him, even if they had agreed to put if off for a few days. The prospect of upsetting Adriana more than worried him.

“What is this, Olivia?” Iker mused happily, waving a stuffed toy ahead of the little girl who sat on the floor ahead of him, grinning up at him happily. It had been a pleasant day, even despite the nerves which twitched in stomach, he had enjoyed himself, and he had to admit that he was glad. The last thing he had wanted to do was ruin that day for Adriana or Olivia.

“You know, she’s not stopped smiling all day”

Iker, who’d been attempting to offer the toy to Olivia, jumped a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a small smile. “That’s a good thing, isn’t it?” he quipped.

Adriana, who was stood in the door way, quirked a small smile before she stepped towards him, settling down in the space at his side. “It is” she mused softly “She’s got a very beautiful smile” she added, gently smoothing out the blonde curls which sat on the top of Olivia’s head.

Iker watched the small interaction for a couple of seconds before he leant towards Adriana, briefly pecking her lips. “It’s something she gets from her very beautiful madre” he mumbled softly.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little at the compliment before she carefully leant forwards, sneaking another soft kiss.

Iker smiled into the kiss for a couple of seconds before he carefully pulled back a little, his dark eyes searching Adriana’s blues. “Addie, I need to tell you…”

“I know you do” Adriana interjected softly “But it can hold for a little longer, can’t it?” she added, her expression soft. She knew that they needed to talk, for a few days, Iker had been quiet and a little distant, but part of her wanted to put it off for a little while, even if it was a big deal. The last thing she wanted to do was ruin a day which had been more than good.

Iker offered her a soft look before he nodded his head, a half-smile on his face. “It can wait a little longer” he agreed softly.

Adriana offered him a small smile before she pushed herself to her feet, moving to lift Olivia onto her hip. “I came through to tell you that dinner was ready. Did you want to come through?” she posed teasingly, offering her spare hand out towards him.

Iker spared a brief chuckle before he moved to lace their fingers together, something which made Adriana smile a little before she moved to lead him through towards the dining room.

Iker followed after her before he offered her hand a small squeeze. He knew that he couldn’t put it off forever, whether it was going to be a pleasant conversation or not, he knew that he couldn’t avoid it completely, but the idea of upsetting Adriana hurt him, even if there was a chance that she would take it better than he thought she would. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt her.
