We Could Be Something

69: I’m Sure You’ll Handle It

“Are you sure that you don’t mind keeping an eye on her for a little while, Ella?” Adriana posed as she stepped into the living room, Olivia’s nappy bag rested on her shoulder. It had been a couple of days, after Christmas had passed, Adriana and Iker had agreed to wait a couple of days before they talked, but Adriana knew that they couldn’t avoid it forever, even if she was a little nervous about whatever it was that was on his mind, she knew that they had to talk eventually.

Ella, who was putting Olivia’s shoes on, startled a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before she shook her head a little. “Of course I don’t mind, Ana” she noted softly “You know I love looking after her” she added, offering a small smile towards the little girl who grinned up at her happily.

“I know that” Adriana mused as she stepped towards her friend “But it is short notice and the last thing I want to do is impose on you and David. If you had something else planned…”

“Ana, if I wasn’t available, I wouldn’t have agreed to babysit” Ella interjected, a teasing smile on her face.

Adriana offered her a slightly dubious look, wordlessly enquiring whether or not she was sure, before she nodded her head, moving to settle the nappy bag on her shoulder. “I will come by in a couple of hours to pick her up” she mused softly.

Ella, who’d moved to lift Olivia up, shook her head a little before she quirked a small smile. “There’s no hurry, Ana” she mused softly “Besides, I am sure that Iker would love to make the most of your time alone together. What is it that you two are celebrating tonight?” she posed, offering her a friend a small smirk.

“We’re not celebrating anything” Adriana mused as she moved towards the door “Iker’s got something he wants to talk to me about and we’ve put it off for long enough” she added, her tone soft and apprehensive.

Ella noted the tone of her friend’s voice before she tilted her head. “Are you two OK?” she posed gently. She didn’t want to pry, for as long as she had known Adriana, she tended to like to keep things to herself, but she wanted to ensure that things were alright between her and Iker. The last thing she wanted was to watch them fall apart when things between the two of them were going so well.

Adriana, who’d moved to pull the door open, offered her a soft look before she shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know” she admitted softly “I mean, I don’t know what it is that’s on his mind, but it’s clearly something big. He’s not been himself for a few days now and I am a little worried” she added, chewing on her lip softly.

Ella admired her for a couple of seconds before she reached her hand forwards, gently squeezing Adriana’s which fiddled nervously with the bottom of her sweater. “I am sure that it’s not as bad as you’re thinking” she mused softly “And even if it is, you and Iker will handle it. You two are amazing together, Ana, you have been for a year now, and I am sure that whatever it is, you two will be OK” she enthused warmly.

Adriana offered her a slightly dubious look before she ducked forwards, pressing a soft kiss against Olivia’s head. “I’ll see you later, little one” she mumbled softly.

“I am sure it will be fine, Ana” Ella mused reassuringly before she stepped out of the apartment.

Adriana watched after her for a couple of seconds before she pushed the door closed, a soft sigh falling out of her mouth. She knew that they couldn’t keep avoiding it, even if it was likely to cause them a problem, she knew that they couldn’t keep skirting around it, but still she was nervous. She liked the way things were and didn’t want to see them change.

Adriana, who was settled on the bed reading, startled a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before she lifted her head, offering him a soft smile. “You’re back a little later than I was expecting” she mused as she moved to settle her book down on the end table.

Iker shook his head. “My meeting took a little longer than I was expecting” he noted as he sat down on the side of the bed “Where’s Olivia?” he added gently.

“She’s with Ella” Adriana noted softly.

Iker nodded his head a little before a small silence fell over them, something which made Adriana sigh a little before she shifted towards him, her hand softly taking a hold of his. “We need to talk, don’t we?” she posed softly.

Iker spared a small glance down towards their hands before he nodded his head. “We do” he confirmed softly “Addie, I have something I need to tell you and I’d prefer it if you let me get through it before you said anything, OK?” he posed, his eyes peeking up at her softly.

“Ok” Adriana mused softly.

Iker offered her hand a small squeeze before he let out a small sigh. “Do you remember when my parents visited and my phone kept ringing?” he posed gently.

Adriana nodded her head quietly.

“The calls were from my agent” Iker noted softly “He was trying to get a hold of me to tell me that…that when season comes to an end, I’ll need to find a new club” he added, his tone soft and nervous.

Adriana, who was playing shyly with his fingers, blinked a couple of times before she shook her head. “What?” she breathed softly.

“He told me that there were offers on the table” Iker noted softly “A few from America, a few from Europe, but he told me that I needed to start to think about where it is I want to go next and that is something I want to discuss with you, Addie. I know that this is a big deal but do you think that that is something we can do?” he posed, his dark eyes peeking up at her shyly.

Adriana mulled over his question for a couple of moments before she shook her head, carefully pulling herself away from him. “I…I think I need a little time to wrap my head around this” she babbled softly.

Iker shook his head. “Please, Addie” he murmured softly.

Adriana, who’d moved to stand up, shook her head a little. “I need a little time” she insisted gently “This is huge, Iker, and I need a little time to get my head around it, OK?” she added, her tone caught between soft and upset.

Iker offered her a soft look before he nodded his head. “OK” he agreed gently.

Adriana spared him a soft look before she stepped towards him, briefly pecking his lips before she ducked out of the room.

Iker watched after her for a couple of seconds before he carefully leant back against the mattress, a small frustrated noise falling out of his mouth. He knew that it was big deal, the prospect of him leaving was always bound to cause a few problems, but he had been hoping for a better reaction, even if it was a surprise, he had been hoping that Adriana would take it better than she had.
