We Could Be Something

72: The Longer We Leave It

“Are you sure that you want to come tonight?” Iker posed as he stood in the doorway, his dark eyes settled on Adriana who sat on the bed, attempting to put a pair of shoes onto Olivia’s feet. It had been a little while, after they’d talked, a few weeks had passed, and whilst things between them still felt a little awkward and tense, he had to admit that he was pleased that they seemed to be OK, even if they did still have a lot to talk about, he was pleased that, for the time being at least, they seemed to be doing OK.

Adriana, who’d been tying the laces of Olivia’s shoes, lifted her head a little before she nodded her head, offering him a soft smile. “It’s been a little while since I’ve been to a game” she noted softly “Don’t you want us there?” she added, offering him a teasing smile as she moved to wrap Olivia’s coat around her shoulders.

Iker rolled his eyes a little, something which made Adriana smile before she pushed herself up to her feet, moving to press a kiss against his lips. “I’m sure that me and Olivia will be fine, Iker” she mused softly.

“Are you sure?” Iker posed gently, his hand gently moving to settle on the front of her sweater.

Adriana watched his hand for a couple of seconds before she pushed herself up onto her toes, stealing a soft kiss. “I’m sure that we’ll be OK” she mumbled as she ducked away from him slightly.

Iker offered her a slightly dubious look, wordlessly enquiring that she was sure, before he nodded his head. “I’ll see you after the game?” he posed as he moved to collect his bag.

“Of course you will” Adriana noted softly “Good luck” she added, offering him an impish smile.

Iker spared a small chuckle before he ducked down, pressing a soft kiss against her lips before he pulled back, moving to pad out of the room.

Adriana watched after him for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, a small sigh falling out of her mouth. They were doing alright, after they’d talked, things between the two of them seemed to be OK, but still Adriana was a little worried, even if she and Iker had agreed to put off talking about it for a little while, part of her was still worried that things between them would falter.

Sparing a small yawn into her hand, Adriana carefully pushed the door closed, trying not to wake Olivia who slept happily in her arms. It had been a good night, after the game, Adriana had spent a little time catching up with her friends from work, and whilst they’d not gotten home until late, she had to admit that she enjoyed herself.

Ensuring that Olivia was still asleep, she carefully padded through towards the nursery before she carefully moved to settle the little girl down onto her change table. Offering her a small smile, she pressed a light kiss against the top of Olivia’s blonde curls before she padded towards the dresser, collecting a clean pair of pajamas before she stepped back towards Olivia, quickly getting her changed before she moved to settle her down into her crib. Ensuring that Olivia was still asleep, Adriana moved to collect the monitor from the side before she ducked out of the room, pulling the door to behind her.

“Addie?”

Adriana, who’d moved to step into the living room, jumped a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before she lifted her head, offering him a tired smile. “You played well tonight” she mused, a small yawn falling out of her mouth.

Iker, who’d moved to settle his bag down beside the door, quirked a small smile at the sound of her yawn before he shook his head. “You sound like you might need an early night” he quipped.

“I think you’re probably right” Adriana agreed softly “I’m going to get ready for bed, what about you?” she posed gently.

“I’ll be through soon” he noted softly before he stepped towards her, pressing a soft kiss against the side of her head “Buenos noches, Addie” he added gently.

Adriana smiled a little at the feel of his lips against her head before she pushed herself up onto her toes, pressing a light kiss against his lips before she ducked out of the room, something which made Iker shake his head a little. It wasn’t overly noticeable, the differences in their relationship were only small, but still it unsettled him, even if things did seem to be alright between the two of them, he was a little worried that the longer they left talking about the future, the worse it would hurt if things didn’t pan out the way he was hoping that they would.

Running a brush through her hair, Adriana stepped out of the bathroom, a small yawn falling out of her mouth. It had been a long day, with the match and spending time with a few of her friends, Adriana found herself a little more tired than usual, and part of her merely couldn’t wait to curl up beneath the duvet, even if it was a little early for her, nothing appealed to her more than the prospect of falling asleep.

Settling the brush down on the dresser, she moved to pull her hair up into a loose ponytail before she moved towards Iker’s dresser, pulling the top drawer open. It had become a routine of hers, with her bump getting bigger, she had started to sleep in his shirts, and she was certain that he wouldn’t mind, even if he did like to tease her a little for it.

Shaking her head a little, she moved to pull out one of the older t-shirts which he stowed in the back of the drawer before she felt something brush against her hand, something which caused her to lift an eyebrow. Frowning a little, she shifted her hand a little more before she felt it brush against her fingertips again, causing her to pull it out, her blue eyes widening a little at the small velvet box which had been stowed at the back of the drawer.

“You weren’t supposed to find it”

Adriana, who’d been staring at the box which sat in her hand, blinked a couple of times at the sound of Iker’s voice before she turned slightly, her blue eyes peeking towards the door where he stood, a half-smile on his face.

Adriana stared at him for a couple of seconds before she flicked her attention back towards the box which sat in her hand, something which made Iker chuckle a little before he stepped towards her, offering her spare hand a small squeeze. “We need to talk, don’t we?” he posed softly.

Adriana spared a small look down towards their hands before she nodded her head softly. She knew that it couldn’t be avoided, with the box which sat in her hand, she knew that they couldn’t put it off for much longer, but still she found herself apprehensive, not quite sure that she was ready to see a relationship that she adored end.
