We Could Be Something

77: I Won’t Let That Happen

Sparing a small look at the door which stood ahead of him, Iker let a nervous sigh fall out of his mouth, his stomach twitching a little at the thought of spending more time with Adriana. It wasn’t the first time, since Olivia’s birthday had passed, he had spent more and more time with Adriana, but still things were awkward, even if they had gotten good at pretending that they weren’t, it still felt tense between the two of them.

Offering another look towards the door, he briefly contemplated walking away before he fished his key out of his pocket, moving to push the door open. Taking a small breath, he paused in the hall for a couple of seconds before he stepped through towards the living room, his eyes settling on Adriana who sat on the floor beside Olivia, offering the little girl one of her stuffed toys.

Quirking a small smile, he admired the two of them for a couple of seconds before the sound of Adriana clearing her throat reached him, causing him to lift his head.

“I didn’t hear you come in” Adriana mused, offering him a small smile.

Iker, who’d moved to settle on the couch beside where she sat, shrugged a little. “I didn’t want to interrupt” he noted softly “So I just let myself in. Is that OK?” he posed, his expression slightly nervous. It wasn’t the first time, since Adriana had suggested that they take a break, he’d felt as though he’d been walking on eggshells around her more than once, but he knew better than to push her, even if he was keen to see things return to the way they had been. He knew that he had to let her handle things in her own time.

Adriana, who’d moved to push herself to her feet, quirked a small smile before she shook her head. “Of course it is OK” she noted softly “Besides, with bump, it would have taken me far longer to get up and open the door for you” she added teasingly.

Iker offered her a small smile before he felt something tug at the bottom of his trousers, causing him to peek down towards Olivia who sat on the ground ahead of him, her little arms stretched up towards him.

“I think someone has missed you” Adriana quipped as she moved to sit at his side, her fingertips gently smoothing out the blonde curls which sat on the little girl’s head.

Iker, who’d moved to settle Olivia at his side, quirked a small smile. “I’ve missed her too” he admitted softly “I’ve missed both of you” he added, sparing her a soft look.

Adriana admired the expression on his face for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, a small nervous sigh falling out of her mouth. She knew that it was coming, whether she wanted to or not, she knew that she and Iker needed to talk about what they were going to do, but part of her had been hoping to put it off for a little longer, even if it had been almost a month since they had opted to take a break, she had been hoping for a little more time.

“The last thing I want to do is stress you out, Addie” Iker noted softly “I want these next few weeks to be as calm and as stress-free as they can be for you and bump, but I need to know what it is you want. It’s been a month, Adriana, and you’re still no nearer deciding what it is you want to do about us. I just need something from you, anything” he added, his tone frustrated.

Adriana allowed his words to linger for a couple of seconds before she peeked up at him, her blue eyes meeting his darker ones. “I…I love you” she babbled softly “But Iker, I am scared. Things between us are moving quickly, too quickly, and I am worried that…that you and I could end up just falling apart and that is the last thing I want to see happen” she admitted, her hands fidgeting nervously in her lap.

Iker watched the movement of her hands for a couple of seconds before he carefully reached out, lacing their fingers together. “I am not going to just let us fall apart, Addie” he mused softly.

“Iker…”

“You’re right” Iker interrupted, his hand gently squeezing hers “Things are happening quickly, perhaps a little too quickly, but I am not just going to let things fall apart for us, Addie. It’s going to take a little work, with the baby due soon and the move at the end of the season, it’s going to take some getting used to, but I am not just going to let you go, Addie, and I want you to know that. We’re stronger than we look” he added, a warm smile on his face. He knew that she had a point, things between the two of them had happened quite quickly, but he wanted to offer her a little reassurance, even if she did still need a little time get her head around things. He wanted her to know that he had little intention of letting their relationship falter.

Adriana offered him a slightly dubious look, something which caused Iker to duck down, pressing a light kiss against the back of her hand. “I am not going to let go of us easily, Addie” he insisted gently.

Adriana looked down at him for a couple of seconds before she shifted her hand, gently resting it against his cheek. “You promise?” she posed quietly, her blue eyes a little tearful.

Iker offered her a light smile before he leant forwards, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. “You have my word” he mumbled, resting his forehead against hers.

Adriana quirked a soft smile at his words before she ducked in, sneaking another light kiss.

Iker held her close for a couple of seconds, enjoying the soft kiss, before he ducked back offering Adriana another soft reassuring smile. He knew that it wasn’t fixed, it was likely to take more than one conversation for him and Adriana to sort things entirely, but still he was pleased that they had talked. He was pleased that they had taken another step in the right direction.
