We Could Be Something

79: What Makes You Happy

Pulling her key out of her bag, Adriana spared a small sigh, her blue eyes peeking towards the door which stood ahead of her. It had been a little while, after she and Ella had had lunch, they’d headed out shopping for a little while, but Adriana was glad to be home, even if she had enjoyed spending time with her friend, part of her couldn’t wait to settle down on the couch for a little while. Sparing another look towards the door, she slipped the key into the lock before she pushed it open, moving to settle her bags down.

Slipping her feet out of her shoes, she carefully closed the door behind her before she padded towards the living room, her blue eyes settling on Iker who was sleeping happily on the couch, Olivia settled on his chest. Quirking a small smile, she admired the two of them for a couple of seconds before she carefully padded towards the couch, moving to lift the little girl up.

Iker, who’d been contently sleeping, jumped a little at the sudden movement before he blinked his eyes open, something which made Adriana shake her head. “I didn’t mean to wake you” she noted softly “I just figured I would go and settle Olivia down in her room. You can go back to sleep if you’d like” she added softly.

Iker, who’d moved to sit up, spared a small yawn into his hand before he shook his head. “It’s OK” he noted softly “I didn’t mean to fall asleep in the first place” he added, offering her a small impish smile.

Adriana smiled a little before Olivia let out a small whimper, pulling her mother’s attention towards her. “I should go and get her settled down” she noted softly “Did you plan on staying for a little while?” she posed softly.

“If you don’t mind me hanging around for a little while” Iker quipped, his tone soft and teasing.

Adriana rolled her eyes playfully before she shook her head. “I’d like it if you stayed” she noted softly “It’s been a little while since you and I had a quiet night in. Do you think that that is something we can do?” she posed, offering him a small smile.

Iker admired the smile on her face for a couple of seconds before he pushed himself to his feet, pressing a light kiss against her lips. “I think that that is something we can do” he mumbled softly.

Adriana pressed another kiss against his lips before she moved to pad out of the room.

Iker watched after her for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth. It was still tense, even despite their latest conversation, things between him and Adriana still felt a little awkward, but he was hopeful that that night marked the start of them attempting to fix things, even if it was only another small step forwards, part of him wanted to ensure that things were settled by the time the baby arrived.

“You know” Adriana quipped as she padded into the kitchen “Before I met you, I was more than capable of preparing my own meals” she added, offering a small smile towards Iker who stood beside the stove, stirring the pot of food which sat on top of it. It had been a pleasant evening, even despite the tension which lingered between the two them, they’d both enjoyed themselves, and Adriana had to admit that she was pleased. Part of her had been worried that things would feel stranger than they had.

Iker, who’d moved to collect another ingredient from the fridge, turned to look at her before he shrugged, a smile on his face. “I know that” he noted “But you were curled up comfortably in front of the television and I didn’t want to make you get up. You don’t mind that I cooked, do you?” he posed softly.

Adriana, who’d moved to pour two glasses of water, quirked a small smile before she shook her head. “Of course I don’t” she noted softly “Besides, I’ve always kind of liked your cooking” she added impishly.

Iker spared a small laugh before he turned back towards the stove, affording Adriana the opportunity to sit down beside the table, her blue eyes watching him for a couple of seconds. It wasn’t the first time, since they’d opted to take a break from their relationship, Adriana had found herself watching him more than once, but still she didn’t quite know what she wanted to do, even if her stomach did ache at the thought of letting him slip through her fingers.

“You know, you’re staring at me”

Adriana, who’d drifted off a little, startled a little at the sound of Iker’s voice, something which made him chuckle a little. “I didn’t mean to scare you” he noted amusedly “Are you alright?” he added, moving to place a plate of food down ahead of her.

Adriana spared him a soft look before she nodded her head. “I was just thinking” she noted softly.

“About?” Iker posed, sitting in the seat opposite her.

“About us” Adriana admitted softly.

Iker offered her a small look before he reached his hand across the table, gently squeezing hers which fiddled nervously with her napkin. “I want you to be comfortable, Addie” he noted softly “I want you to be as happy as you can be and I’d hate to be the reason that you weren’t. Do I want you to come with me? Of course I do, but if it isn’t what you want…I want you to do what is it that makes you happy, mi amor” he enthused gently, his expression soft and earnest.

Adriana mulled his words over for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, a tearful smile on her face. “You’re ridiculously sweet, aren’t you?” she babbled softly.

Iker shrugged a little, a small bashful smile on his face.

Adriana admired his smile for a couple of seconds before she pushed herself to her feet, pressing a soft kiss against his lips. “Is that offer to come with you still open?” she mumbled as she pulled away, resting her forehead against his.

Iker blinked a couple of times. “What?” he breathed, his tone more than a little surprised.

Adriana offered him a small tearful smile. “It’s going to take a little work” she breathed, her fingers nervously playing with the collar of his shirt “I mean, we’ll be moving with a newborn and a toddler, it’s not exactly going to be easy, but if you still want us to come along with you…”

“I’d love nothing more than that, Addie” Iker interrupted gently, his fingers gently knotting with hers.

Adriana glanced at their hands for a couple of seconds before she nodded her head. “Then we should enjoy the next few weeks before bump comes along before we start to look for somewhere to live” she mused softly.

Iker offered her a slightly dubious look, wordlessly enquiring if she was sure, before he quirked a grin, pressing a kiss against her lips.

Adriana giggled a little before she wrapped her arms around him, holding him close. She knew that it was going to take more than a little work, with Olivia and the new baby around, moving wasn’t going to be easy, but she wanted to do it, even if she was nervous about leaving her home, she knew that she couldn’t just let him slip through her fingers.
