We Could Be Something

85: When I Needed Someone

Smoothing out the material of the dress that she wore, Adriana spared a small look towards the mirror which stood ahead of her, her blue eyes studying her appearance. It had been a little while, after Luca had arrived, a couple of weeks had past, and with Iker’s parents in town for a visit, the couple had agreed to head out for dinner, something which pleased Adriana a little.

It was still a work in progress, things between Adriana and Iker were still a little awkward from time to time, but the blonde was pleased with their progress, even if she knew that there were things that they still needed to talk about. She was pleased to see that things were getting better between the two of them.

Offering her reflection another look, she carefully brushed some of her blonde hair off of her face before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached her, causing her to turn a little, her blue eyes peeking up at Iker who stood in door way, a small smile on his face. “What do you think?” she quipped, moving to collect her shoes which sat at the foot of the bed.

Iker, who stood in the door way, quirked a small grin before he shook his head. “You look beautiful, Addie” he mused warmly “Are you nearly ready to get out of here?” he added softly.

Adriana, who’d slipped her feet into her shoes, pushed herself up before she nodded, offering him a small smile. “I think so” she noted softly “Are your parents sure that they’re going to be Ok watching Olivia and Luca?” she posed softly.

“I’ve given them every number that they could need to contact us” Iker mused softly “But my madre seems pretty confident, so much so she told me to stop fussing and focus on enjoying a night out with my beautiful girlfriend” he added amusedly.

Adriana offered him a slightly dubious look, soundlessly asking if he was sure, before she nodded her head, something which made Iker chuckle a little before he stepped towards her, tugging her into a soft hug. “It’ll be fine, nena” he mumbled softly “If they need us, they can call us, but I’d like to spend a little time with you tonight. Do you think that that is something we can manage?” he posed softly.

He knew that it wasn’t a big deal to her, he and Adriana had been out to dinner more than once since they’d started to date, but Iker wanted to go out that night, even if it was only for a couple of hours, he wanted to spend a little time with Adriana.

Adriana mulled his question over for a couple of seconds before she lifted her head, pressing a brief kiss against his lips. “I think that we can do that” she mused, offering him a small smile.

Iker returned her smile before he ducked down, pressing another kiss against her lips before the sound of his mother’s voice reached his ears, causing Adriana to duck back. “I should go and check on them before we go” she mumbled softly before she ducked out of the room.

Iker watched after her for a couple of seconds before he padded towards his dresser, carefully pulling out the small box which sat inside the drawer. He knew that it was a little risky, whilst things between him and Adriana were better, it was still a work in progress, but he wanted to ask her, even if it was a little risky, he wanted to take the chance.

Offering the box a small look, he briefly contemplated putting it back into the drawer, before he moved to stow it into the pocket of his jacket.

“You know, you can go five minutes without looking at your phone”

Adriana, who had been peeking down at the phone which rested on the side of the table, jumped a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before she lifted her head, a small blush playing on her cheeks. “Sorry” she babbled softly.

It had been a pleasant evening, even despite the fact that Adriana had been a little distracted, both she and Iker had had a good time, and it pleased the blonde. She was glad that things seemed to be getting back on track between the two of them

Iker offered her a small smile before he shook his head. “If there was something wrong, they’d call, Addie” he mused softly, his hand gently moving to take a hold of hers.

Adriana spared a small glance down towards their hands before she nodded her head softly, something which made Iker smile before he ducked his head, pressing a soft kiss against her hand. “We can head home straight away if you want to” he offered softly.

“We don’t have to do that” Adriana replied “I know I have been a little distracted, but I am sort of enjoying myself” she added, offering him an impish grin.

Iker quirked an amused eyebrow before he lifted his hand, signaling to the waiter that he wanted the bill. “What do you think about taking a walk before we head back home?” he posed, moving to wrap his jacket around his shoulders.

Adriana feigned thought for a couple seconds before she quirked a small smile. “I think that that sounds like a wonderful idea” she mused brightly.

Iker chuckled softly before he shook his head, trying to shift the knot which twitched in his stomach.

Squeezing Adriana’s hand softly, Iker spared a small nervous sigh, his stomach twisting at the thought of asking Adriana to marry him. He knew that there was no rush, things between him and Adriana were good and were likely to be good for a little while, but part of him didn’t want to wait anymore, even if it was a big step forwards, he wanted to take the step with Adriana.

“Are you ok?”

Iker, who’d been watching his feet, jumped a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her the best smile that he could muster. “I’m fine” he noted softly.

Adriana offered him a dubious look before she shook her head, pulling them to a stop. “You’re not” she countered.

“Addie…”

“You’re quiet, Iker” Adriana interjected “And that’s not like you, so why don’t we skip over the part where you insist that you’re Ok and get to the bit where you tell me what’s going on in that head of yours” she added, playfully poking at the side of his head.

Iker chuckled softly before he reached up, capturing her hand in his. “I’ve been thinking, Addie” he mused softly “And I’ve got something I’d like to say to you, but I want to get through it before you react, alright?” he posed, offering her a soft look.

Adriana frowned a little but nodded her head, something which made Iker take in a breath before he shook his head. “I’m not really sure about what I want to say, Addie” he noted softly “I mean, I could stand here and tell you all the things that I adore about you, like the way you’re always so kind to people, or the way you can make me smile even when I don’t want to, but if I did that, I’d be here for a very long time” he added, a half-smile on his face.

Adriana, who was watching him, chewed on her lip for a couple of seconds before she squeezed his hand, wordlessly encouraging him to go on.

“What I really want to tell you is that…that you are the best thing that could have happened to me when I showed up here. You were my friend, Addie, the best one I’ve made in a long time, and I love that about you. You were there when I need someone to be and I think that that is a big part of why I am so in love with you. You are an amazing friend, Addie, an amazing girlfriend, and that is why…why I was sort of hoping that you’d like to become my wife” he babbled softly before he carefully knelt down, pulling the box out of his pocket “Adriana, will you marry me?” he posed softly.

Adriana allowed the words to hang around her for a couple of seconds before she placed a hand over her mouth, not quite sure what to say to him.
