We Could Be Something

86: Is That Not What You Wanted To Hear?

“Adriana?” Iker posed softly, his hand gently squeezing Adriana’s “Mi amor, I really need you to say something, anything. You’ve never been quiet for this long” he joked weakly, a feeble smile on his face. He knew that he had caught her off guard, from the moment the words had fallen out of his mouth, Adriana had looked more than surprised, and it worried him, even if she hadn’t said anything, part of him worried that he had got the timing wrong.

Adriana, who’d been looking down at her feet, jumped a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before she lifted her head, her blue eyes peeking down at him softly. “What did you just ask me?” she breathed, her blue eyes slightly tearful.

Iker admired her tearful expression for a couple of seconds before he carefully pulled himself back to his feet, moving to step a little closer to her. “I asked you to marry me, Addie” he breathed softly “I mean, I know that is a little sudden. Only a few weeks ago it looked like we were done with, but since we patched things up, we’ve been good, really good, and I want to make the next step, but if you don’t want that, I understand” he babbled, his hand offering hers another soft squeeze.

He knew what he wanted, for a while, he had known that he wanted to move forwards with Adriana, but he didn’t want to pressure her into anything, even if he was excited at the prospect of moving forwards with her. The last thing he wanted was to push her into something that she wasn’t ready for.

Adriana allowed his words to linger for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, her spare hand carefully wiping her eyes. “You have really caught me off guard, you know” she sniffled, a slightly playful smile on her face.

Iker quirked a small smile. “I know” he quipped “It was sort of my intention” he added.

Adriana spared a small breathy laugh, something which made Iker step towards her, his arms carefully wrapping her up in a soft hug. “If this isn’t what you want, all you have to do is tell me” he mumbled before he pressed a soft kiss against the top of her head.

Adriana closed her eyes at the feel of his lips against her head before she cuddled into him slightly. “You sure about this?” she mumbled softly.

Iker pulled away from her a little before he nodded his head. “I’m certain, Addie” he admitted softly “I’ve been pretty certain of what I want for a while” he added, his fingertips gently brushing a few loose tears off of her cheeks.

Adriana admired the soft expression he wore on his face for a couple of moments before she closed her eyes, her teeth softly chewing on her lip. “Ask me again” she whispered softly.

Iker tilted his head, slightly surprised by her words, before he carefully moved to kneel down ahead of her. Taking a small breath, he carefully retrieved the box from his pocket before he took a hold of Adriana’s hand, offering her a small smile. “Adriana” he breathed softly “Mi amor, will you marry me?” he posed.

Adriana let another sniffle fall out of her mouth before she nodded her head. “Yes” she squeaked softly.

Iker blinked a couple of times, caught off guard by her answer, before he pushed himself back to his feet. “Did you just…did you say yes?” he babbled out.

Adriana quirked a tearful smile before she nodded. “I think so” she quipped “Is that not what you wanted to hear?” she added playfully.

Iker shook his head, a grin playing on his face, before he wrapped his arms around her waist, lifting her off of her feet.

Adriana squeaked at the sudden embrace before she wrapped her arms around his neck, holding onto him tightly as she let out a small giggle, something which made Iker’s smile grow a little.

“Are you sure that you want to go inside?”

Iker, who’d been staring at the front door of their apartment, startled a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a small smile. “We sort of have to, don’t we?” he quipped.

Adriana, who’d moved to stand beside him, nodded. “We do” she confirmed softly “But as soon as we do, they’re going to spot this” she added, showing off the engagement ring which sat on her finger. It still felt a little odd, the idea that Iker had proposed and she had said yes was going to take a little getting used to, but Adriana was pleased, even if she had hesitated a little when she’d given her answer, she was more than sure that ‘yes’ was the right one.

Iker admired the ring for a couple of seconds before he quirked a small smile. “Would that be a bad thing?” he quipped.

Adriana rolled her eyes a little, something which made Iker lean towards her, sneaking a soft kiss. “If you want to keep it to ourselves for a little while, that’s OK” he mumbled softly as he ducked away from her slightly, resting his forehead against hers.

Adriana offered him a soft look before she shook her head. “It’s OK” she mused softly.

“Are you sure?” Iker posed, moving to pull his key out of his pocket.

Adriana nodded her head a little before she carefully moved to knot their fingers together.

Iker spared a small look down towards their hands before he moved to push the door open, allowing him to lead Adriana through the apartment towards the living room where his father sat, Luca sleeping happily in his arms. “You’re back” the older man mused.

“We are” Iker mused “Where’s madre?” he added softly.

“Olivia is having a fussy night” Jose Luis noted “I think she missed the two of you when it came to bedtime, but she should be back in a couple of seconds” he added softly.

Iker nodded his head a little before he moved to settle down on the couch, Adriana at his side.

“How was dinner?” the older man posed.

Iker and Adriana shared a small look before he quirked a small smile, something which made Adriana’s cheeks warm a little. “It was pretty good” he quipped enthusiastically.

The older man raised his eyebrow a little before the sound of footsteps reached his ears, causing him to lift his head as Carmen padded into the room. “You two are back a little earlier than I was expecting” she mused softly, offering a warm smile towards Iker and Adriana.

Iker nodded his head a little before he squeezed Adriana’s hand softly. “Madre, padre, we have something that we’d like to tell you” he mused softly.

Carmen, who’d moved to sit beside her husband, tilted her head a little. “You do?” she posed.

“We do” Adriana confirmed softly “Whilst we were out tonight, Iker…he asked me to marry him” she babbled, a soft hint of pink playing on her cheeks.

Carmen blinked a couple of times. “He did?” she squeaked.

“I did” Iker confirmed “And Addie…She said yes” he added, a wide smile appearing on his face.

Carmen stared at him for a couple of seconds, letting his words sink in, before she pushed herself to her feet, quickly moving to pull the couple into a tight hug.

Adriana jumped a little at the sudden embrace before she quirked a small smile, hugging the older woman softly. She knew that it was big step, getting engaged was marked move forwards for their relationship, but she was excited, even if it was going to take a little while to sink in.
