We Could Be Something

91: Give It Time

Pushing a hand back through her hair, Adriana spared a small look around the apartment, not missing how empty and quiet it was. It had taken them a little a while, after Iker had decided on a move to Lyon, they’d spent a few weeks packing up and shipping out their things, but with their flight booked for later that morning, Adriana felt more than a little nervous. She knew that there was no avoiding it, with Iker having agreed to play for Lyon, the move was something she knew that they had to do, and whilst she was a little nervous, a small part of her was excited about the idea of moving to a new city.

“Are you nearly ready to get out of here?”

Adriana, who’d been studying the empty living room, jumped a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before she lifted her head, her blue eyes peeking towards where he stood in the door way, Olivia rested on his hip. “I think so” she mused softly “Did you finish packing up Olivia and Luca’s things?” she posed, carefully moving to collect the little girl from his arms.

Iker quirked a small smile before he nodded his head. “I’ve packed everything you set aside for us to take” he mused softly “What about you? Have you got everything packed yet?” he added, the tone of his voice soft and warm. He knew that she was still a little nervous, whenever the topic of their impending move arose, she tended to get a little quiet and shy, and he wanted to reassure that things were going to be OK, even if he was a little nervous about the move himself. He wanted her to feel as comfortable as she could when they arrived in their new home.

Adriana, who’d moved to settle Olivia onto her feet, nodded her head a little. “I think so” she mused softly “I mean, everything I wanted to take with me is in a suitcase, so I think that I am good to go” she added, a shy expression on her face.

Iker admired the look on her face for a couple of seconds before he stepped towards her, his arms gently wrapping around her waist. “We’ve still got a little while before we need to be at the airport” he mused softly “Why don’t we get Olivia and Luca ready and then we could head out for a walk or some breakfast…whatever it is you want to do” he added, offering her a reassuring squeeze.

“You’d not mind that?” Adriana posed, peeking up at him softly.

Iker quirked a small smile before he shook his head. “Not at all” he mused “We’ve got a couple of hours to kill and it beats hanging around here. I’ll get Luca ready and I’ll be back here in a couple of minutes” he added before he pressed a soft kiss against the side of her head, padding out of the room.

Adriana watched after him for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, a small smile playing at the corner of mouth. It wasn’t the first time, since the topic of his move away from Porto had arose, Iker had been nothing short of amazing with her, and Adriana had to admit that she adored him for it, even if she was still a little nervous about the idea of leaving her home, she had to admit that she was a little amazed by how thoughtful Iker had been towards her.

Sipping on her mug of tea, Adriana spared a small look across the table, her blue eyes settling on Iker who had Olivia sat in his lap, babbling happily to him. It had been a pleasant morning, despite the nervous sensation that twitched in her stomach, Adriana had enjoyed heading out to breakfast with Iker and the children, and whilst she knew that it was merely distraction, she was glad that they had done it.

“Addie?”

Adriana, who’d drifted off a little, jumped a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before she lifted her head. “Huh?” she squeaked.

Iker, who’d moved to settle Olivia into her stroller, spared a small chuckle before he lifted his head, offering a soft look towards his girlfriend. “Were you not listening to me?” he teased, offering her an impish grin.

Adriana shook her head a little. “I wasn’t” she admitted softly “Were you saying something important?” she added, her voice a little soft.

Iker noted the tone of her voice before he carefully reached his hand across the table, offering hers a soft squeeze. “I was just saying that we should probably think about heading back to the apartment soon” he noted softly “I figured you’d want to do a final check before the taxi arrives” he added, his thumb carefully brushing over the back of her hand.

Adriana watched the small movements of his thumb before she nodded her head quietly, something which made Iker smile softly before he carefully lifted her hand, pressing a warm kiss to the back of it. “You’re still nervous?” he posed softly.

“You’ve caught on to that, have you?” Adriana quipped, a half-hearted smile on her face.

Iker chuckled a little before he nodded his head. “I have noticed that” he played along softly “And I can tell you that, even despite the fact that this isn’t my first move, I am nervous too, Addie” he added, squeezing her hand gently.

“You are?” Adriana posed, her teeth nibbling on her lip shyly.

Iker nodded. “I am” he confirmed “And I think I am probably going to be nervous for a while yet, but I am sure that, eventually, we’ll get used it. I mean, it’s going to take a little work and some time, but I think that this is something we can handle” he added softly.

Adriana offered him a soft look, something which made him squeeze her hand once more. “Just promise me something, Addie” he mumbled softly.

“What?” Adriana posed softly.

“I know it is going to be strange for a little while” Iker mused softly “And I know it is going to take some getting used to, but I want you to promise me that you’ll give it time. I don’t want to push you, Addie, I don’t want to make you stay if you’re not happy there, but I’d like you to at least give it some time” he added, shyly playing with her fingers.

Adriana watched their fingers for a couple of seconds before she lifted his hand, pressing a soft kiss against the warm skin. “I’ll give it time, Iker” she breathed softly.

Iker allowed her words to linger for a couple of seconds before he carefully pushed himself up, moving to press a soft kiss to her lips. He knew that it would take time, moving from Portugal to France was something which was going to take some adaptation, but he wanted to encourage her to give it a chance, even if she did end up changing her mind, he wanted her to at least be able to say that she had tried.
