We Could Be Something

93: I’m Glad You Came

Adjusting the tie which sat around his neck, Iker spared a small sigh, trying to soothe the hit of butterflies which twitched in his stomach. It had been a couple of days, after he and Adriana had arrived in Lyon, they’d been allowed to take a couple of days before his unveiling, and whilst Iker was pleased that Adriana and the children seemed to have settled into their new home quickly, a small part of him was nervous about the morning which stood ahead of him.

He knew that it couldn’t be avoided, a presentation was a part of signing for a new club, but part of him wanted to duck out, even if he knew that it wasn’t a possibility, he wanted to shy away from it for as long as he could.

Shaking his head a little, he adjusted the knot of his tie slightly before he let another small sigh fall out of his mouth, irked that he couldn’t quite shift the nervous sensation in the pit of his stomach.

“You look handsome”

Iker, who’d been focused on undoing the tie he wore, jumped a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, peeking towards where she stood in the door way, a soft smile fixed on her face. “I mean, it’s been a little while since I saw you so dressed up, but I kind of like it” she added, the tone of her voice warm and teasing.

“Gracias” Iker quipped, offering her a small nervous smile.

Adriana admired the slightly nervous look on his face for a couple of seconds before she stepped towards him, taking the two ends of his tie into her hands. “You know” she mused, carefully moving to fix his tie “This is the first time in a long time that I have seen you so shy and nervous. I think the last time was when you first arrived in Porto” she added, offering him a small smile.

She knew that he was nervous, from the moment that they had woken up that morning, he had appeared shy and quiet, and Adriana wanted to comfort him a little, even if she couldn’t remove his nerves entirely, she wanted to offer him the support he was usually so keen to offer to her.

Iker, who was watching her tie his tie, quirked a small smile before he nodded his head. “I am a little nervous” he admitted gently “But I know that I just have to get through it. It is a few pictures, a couple of interviews, I am sure that I can handle it” he added.

Adriana offered him a soft look before she nodded her head, a small smile playing on her lips. “I’m sure that you’ll be fine” she mused softly before she stepped back slightly, carefully smoothing out the collar of the shirt he wore.

Iker watched the movement of her hands for a couple of seconds before he ducked forwards, pressing a soft kiss against her lips.

Adriana jumped a little, caught a little off guard by the kiss, before she carefully wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him close for a couple of seconds before she pulled away slightly, resting her forehead against his. “You know, I don’t think I say this enough, but I love you, Addie” he mumbled, his nose softly nudging against hers.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little at his words before she leant up, sneaking another brief kiss before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached them, causing her to duck back a little, her blue eyes peeking towards Carmen who stood in the doorway, Luca cuddled into her arms. “I didn’t mean to interrupt” she mused softly “But Luca is starting to get a little fussy and I think he wants his madre” she added gently.

Adriana, who’d moved to pull away from Iker slightly, nodded her head a little before she leant up, pressing a soft kiss against his cheek. “I love you too” she mumbled gently before she stepped towards Carmen, moving to collect Luca from her arms before she padded out of the room.

Iker watched after her for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, wordlessly musing about how glad he was that Adriana had opted to come with him.

Resting against the kitchen counter, Adriana closed her eyes for a second, a small sigh falling out of her mouth. It had been a long morning, between Iker’s presentation and looking after Luca and Olivia, she had barely had a second to relax, and she was grateful for a couple of seconds of quiet, even if she knew that it wouldn’t last, she was glad to have a couple of seconds to herself.

Pushing a hand through her hair, she listened the soft rumble of the kettle before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached her, causing her to blink her blue eyes open, peeking up towards Iker who stood in the door way, an impish grin on his face. “You OK?” he quipped amusedly.

Adriana rolled her eyes a little. “I was just taking a couple of seconds before I bought through the tea” she mused “Since we got up this morning, it’s been non-stop and I wanted to take a couple seconds” she added.

“Do you want me to leave you to it?” Iker posed softly.

Adriana feigned thought for a couple of seconds before she quirked an impish grin, something which made Iker roll his eyes a little before he stepped towards her, his arms settling comfortably around her waist. “You know, you’ve been pretty great today” he mumbled, pressing a soft kiss against the top of her head.

Adriana tilted her head, peeking up at him softly. “You think so?” she posed.

Iker nodded his head. “I do” he confirmed softly “You were great with me this morning, and with the children and my parents all day. It makes me very glad that you decided to come along with me” he enthused warmly, a soft grin perched on his face.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little at the sound of his words before she carefully pushed herself up onto her toes, pressing a soft kiss against his lips. “I am pretty glad that I came too” she mumbled softly, cuddling into him slightly. She knew that she had caused a few problems, when Iker had first suggested that they leave Porto, she had been less than receptive towards the idea, and whilst she knew that it would take a little getting used, she was glad that she had gone along with him, even if she did miss Porto, she was confident that she would have missed Iker more.
