Take Me to Church

Chapter Forty-Four

Jax woke me up the next morning by shaking my shoulder. He had come back some time during the night, and slept on the bed next to Abel. Stretching my body out, I reached over and picked my phone up out of the floor. Chibs had neither called nor texted through out the night- which I couldn't help but think was a bit odd.

"I think I'm gonna go get some breakfast and call Chibs. Do you guys want anything?" I asked, slipping my feet back down into my shoes. "I was just going to get Abel some cookies, so I'll walk with you." Jax spoke. I eyed the man suspiciously as we walked out of Abel's room together. He seemed uneasy about something. I mean, yes his son was just injured and hospitalized, but this was something completely different.

"There's something you're not telling me, Jax." I pointed out simple. I heard him let out a deep breath as we continued walking. When he didn't respond, my suspicions were confirmed, so I spoke once more. "I know you're trying to think of a way to tell me that something bad has happened to Chibs. You can tell me what it is." I wrung my hands together as we walked. Jax sighed, shaking his head. "Frankie got away from us. Shot Lyla, and took Chibs as insurance that we wouldn't follow him. We're not sure where he is now."

Unintentionally, my hands fell down to rest on my stomach as worry kicked me in the gut. "Oh." Was all I could bring myself to say. "Bobby's out looking for him right now, everything's going to be okay." Jax put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "I think.....I think I'm just gonna go back to the club and wait for any news there." I choked out.

Jax was momentarily hesitant. "Yeah, you do what you need to do." He nodded his head.

Without saying another word, I shoved my hands down into my pockets and walked away from the blonde man. All thoughts of breakfast were abandoned as my fingers played with the keys in my pocket, and I walked passed a confused looking Tara. The air was almost suffocating outside the four walls of the hospital. "Breathe, stay calm and breathe. Everything is going to be fine, just stay calm and keep breathing." I ordered myself, wrapping my fingers even tighter around the keys in my pocket. Climbing into the car, I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding in.

My fingers wrapped themselves around the steering wheel, and I sat like that for about ten minutes before actually starting the car and making my way to the club.

It was all but abandoned when I arrived. My hands wrung themselves together once more as I climbed out of the car, walked across the lot, and into the club house.

I could feel eyes on me as I walked through the building. The eyes of people feeling sorry for me because they know my husband was taken and no one knew where he was now, or if he was still alive. I ignored their stares as I walked down the hallways and into the apartment. Our apartment. As I stepped into the room, I couldn't help but allow the morbid thoughts to cross my mind.

Shaking my head, I kicked off my shoes and went into the bathroom. Hopefully a nice, hot shower would help clear my mind and relax me a bit. Stepping out of yesterday's clothes, I stepped under the scalding hot water. It felt absolutely amazing. I washed my hair and body first and then spent a good twenty minutes just standing under the water before deciding to get out.

Stepping out of the shower and onto the dry rug on the floor, I wrapped my body up in a dry towel. Through the bathroom door, I could see Dyna sleeping soundly on the foot of the bed. Turning so my back was to the door, I grabbed another towel, I wrapped it around my hair before squeezing it to get the excess water out. Then I proceeded to run the towel over my hair, trying to speed up the drying process as I walked back into the bedroom.

I lost feeling in my fingers, and the towel fell to the floor when I saw my husband sitting on the edge of the bed, petting Dyna lovingly.

Walking over to him, I placed my hand on his cheek and crouched down in front of him. "I was so worried, are you alright? What happened?" I couldn't stop myself from asking him. "Honestly, I thought he was going to put a bullet in my skull- but he didn't, and I'm fine. He just knocked me out. Trucker on the side of the road found me, gave me a lift to the hospital." He shrugged his shoulders like it was nothing. But it wasn't nothing to me. MY husband had been hurt, could have been killed- and the man who had done it had gotten away and hurt more people in the process.

"You'd better get dressed, love. Boys are waiting for us in the chapel." He was quick to change the subject. Nodding my head, I made my way over to the closet to pick out something I could wear. I picked a red tank top, a red plaid overshirt, ripped up jeans, and boots.

"Can you get me a cup of coffee please?" I asked as I pulled a pair of underwear onto my body. He mumbled something under his breath before he walked away.

I continued to dress myself, so that by time he returned I was putting my feet down into my shoes, while Dyna eyed me curiously from her spot on the bed. "Thank-you." I mumbled as he sat the mug down on the nightstand next to me. Sighing, I pushed myself up onto my feet and stood in front of him silently for a few moments. "I want you to promise me something." I spoke, grabbing onto the front of his shirt. "What is it, sweetheart?" He questioned, cocking his head to the side.

"If you start feeling bad, even if it's just a headache, I was you to tell me. Promise me, that you'll try to take it easy today." I spoke, looking him in the eye. He watched me as I spoke, as if in shock or awe. He was thinking it over.

"I promise, dear." He nodded his head ever so slightly. I couldn't help but smile almost immediately. "Thank- you. Now, we probably shouldn't keep the boys waiting much longer." I reminded him simply. Immediately, he offered me his hand and I gladly took it. Yet before we actually left the apartment, I reached down and grabbed my coffee. Dyna jumped off of the bed and followed along behind us as we walked down the hallway.

"Dyna, stay!" Chibs ordered as we stepped into the chapel. The door closed behind us, and Dyna sat down outside- wait impatiently as always.

"Quinn says Frankie's in South Tahoe, he's hooked up with Leo Pirelli's crew." Happy got the ball rolling as soon as the door had shut behind us. "He's bought himself some protection." Jax sighed, obviously not happy with this. Granted, I wasn't either.

"Is that solid intel? Cause I'm a little cautious when it comes to Nomad territory. " Clay spoke next. There he goes, stirring the pot and causing drama. "Quinn knows every pimp and hooker in a 300 mile radius. Frankie still likes 'em young and slanted." Happy informed us all with a sick smile on his face. Okay, I definitely didn't need to know that. "Yeah, pussy tells all." Tig added, also with a sick smile on his face. "Alright, I want you to give him a call and let him know that we're on our way. So make sure it's real." Jax ordered, looking over at Happy. He had a stern, angry look on his face.

Happy simple nodded his head.

"Leo runs book and poker clubs. It's a quiet crew man. Maybe Cacuza could reach out, explain the situation." Bobby's voice sounded so hopeful. "I can call Jimmy." Clay offered his services. "But what happens when we find Frankie?" Juice was the one to ask the question. We all knew exactly what was going to happen when we got a hold of him, what couldn't be answered was how.

"We cut his god damn head off!" Chibs growled out, slamming his fist down on the table. I quickly reached down and placed my hand on his arm. Attempting to comfort and calm him.

"First, we have to press him about these attacks, find out who's calling the shots." Jax held his hand up as if telling Chibs that he needed to calm down. "Lets vote this shit!" Tig snapped, wanting to get on with things. "Okay, we all know what Frankie did to compromise the club. Vote's gotta be unanimous. All in favor of stripping his patch?" As soon as the words left his lips, everyone raised their hands to vote yes. "As far as mayhem goes, let's hear pros and cons." Jax continued on with a sigh.

"He tried to kill you, so that would be a pro." Tig was the first to start listing things off. "We only got the word of a non-member." Jax had to wave off Tig's words. "Gogo tried to kill me, and then Greg attacked Unser- there's no way that Frankie wasn't in on that." I choked out, not wanting to think about it.

"Nomads were all on a spree." Clay chimed in. "He shot Lyla, and then tried to kill me as well. Frankie's made his bed Jackie." Chibs spoke next.

"Okay, all in favor of Frankie Diamonds meeting Mr. Mayhem." Jax gave in and allowed the vote to take place. Once more, hands shot up into the air. We were all in agreement, Frankie would in fact meet Mr. Mayhem whenever we found him. So with JAx dismissed us so that we could go on our way and try to find the doomed man.

As soon as the chapel doors opened, Dyna jumped up and ran over to me. "Are you sure you're ready for this, love?" Chibs asked, reaching out and taking my hand in his. "They tried to kill me. I'm pregnant Filip, they could've hurt our baby or worse. Frankie deserves what's coming to him." My body was pretty much numb as the words escaped from my lips, but I found myself smiling up at my husband. "Prospect! Watch Dyna while we're gone, she'll need to go out soon."

We left with everyone else.

Jax convinced Leo to meet us halfway and take us to where Frankie was being kept- a safe house.

Even though we had found him, we were on our way to get him, we didn't get to him nor did we get any of the answers we were after.

Clay had gotten there first, and ran a van into the gas tank- blowing up half of the cabin. Jax got there in time to stop Clay from pulling the trigger on Frankie. However, when Leo found out that his men had been killed as well, he was the one to finally pull the trigger on Frankie. Multiple times. It definitely put a hitch in Jax's plan.

So we made our way back to the club, Quinn tagging along.

"I'm so exhausted, why is growing a human so tiring." I groaned, walking into the club with the men behind me. When Dyna trotted over to where I stood, I crouched down in front of her and began petting her and scratching behind her ears. "Let's go lay down, huh?" I spoke.

"That sounds like a wonderful idea." I heard Chibs laugh from somewhere behind me. Playfully, I looked up at him through my eye lashes and smiled. "Oh, I was talking to Dyna but, you can come too." My words only made everyone who heard my words laugh loudly. Chibs rolled his eyes before stomping over to where I was crouched down. Grabbing my hand, he helped me too my feet before pulling me close to him, "Alright, ya ass let's just go to bed."
