To Sweden With Love

arton

The sun shone through the floor to ceiling window waking me. The clock was next to me reading 7:13AM. I rolled onto my other side to find Derick sprawled out and still asleep.

I put my lips on his, waking him. "Good morning," I said as a smile brushed across my face.

"Morning, beautiful."

That made my heart flutter.

"How do you even sleep with the sun shining in through this window?" I held a sheet against the front of my body before approaching the big window to look out.

"I really enjoy the view," a smile flashed across his face.

It was a really nice view of the city, but I knew that's not what he meant.

"We're high enough up that no one can see us."

I glazed around to see if there were any buildings that could look into or up at the room. None.

I dropped the sheet and climbed on top of him. "How's this view?"

"El, I really did miss you. Not a day went by that I didn't think about you. We really made a connection when we met those two months ago."

"What about when you were in Pittsburgh for the series?"

"I couldn't have any distractions."

I laid my head on his chest. I could hear his heart beating fast. His skin was warm.

"El, I never did give you the chance to explain why you needed to get away."

I looked up at him and sighed. "My crazy ex has been contacting me and I felt like I was in danger. He abused me for far too long so I needed to get out while I could."

He picked up his head and kissed me. "You're safe here now."

A couple weeks went by when I decided it was time for me to find a new job. Derick played an important rule in me getting the job I got: head of marketing for the New York Rangers!

"I love you so much!" I exclaimed so quickly I didn't realize I even said it.

"Did you just--?" Derick hesitated.

I covered my mouth with my hand. "It just came out."

He shrugged it off before grabbing my hand as we walked down the streets of Manhattan. He wanted to take me to his favorite spot to eat: Lombardi's Pizza.

I felt like I was overdressed considering I had just come from my interview.

A pizza shop was kind of a cheesy place to have our first official date as a couple. But I felt like a teenager again on my very first date.

I really started to feel like my old self again.

"I'm really glad you contacted me," I said after a moment of silence.

"Really?"

"Yeah because who know what I could have been like if I didn't get the chance to leave."

"I'm glad I rescued you then," he smiled reaching out to take my hands in his.

After lunch, he took me down Fifth Avenue so I could get myself some new clothes. Instead of having to wear all his while I sat at home.

He became one with the 'boyfriend chair' as I tried on outfit after outfit in each store.

Ah, 'boyfriend.' It was nice to use that term again and not be afraid.
