To Sweden With Love

nio

I couldn’t drive home fast enough. Meeting with Carl was a mistake, a HUGE mistake. I couldn’t believe I let anything, or anyone, get to me like that.

For Pete’s sake, marrying Michael is all I ever wanted.

Wasn’t it?

When I got to the house, I saw the light on in the front room. I sighed and headed into the house.

When I walked in, I saw Michael sitting there with his head in his hands. He looked up when he heard me put my keys in the dish on the table.

“Olivia I am so sorry.” He said as he rushed over and pulled me into a hug.

I started to sob. “No I am.”

He shook his head as he wiped my tears away. “You have nothing to be sorry for. I have been a horrible fiancé to you.”

I thought about Carl and what had almost happened. “No babe, I completely understand. You need your guys time before gaining an ol ball and chain.”

He laughed. “Maybe it isn’t fair to you. I promise to be here more to help with the wedding stuff.”

“And no more secrets?”

He stuck out his pinky finger. “No more secrets, I promise.”

I gave him my pinky, and we shook. “Okay, so what don’t I know?”

He shook my head. “I really cannot tell you, all I can say, is that it has to do with our honeymoon.”

I sighed and gave him a kiss. “Okay fine. I am going to go take a bath, I have a pounding headache.”

“And I shall start on dinner.”

As I went upstairs and started to draw my bath, I heard my phone ping.

I’m sorry, I just… fuck. Can we please talk?

I sighed as I went to Carl’s name in my phone, hit the block key, and then deleted the number.

No more distractions.

----------

Two weeks later, I had buried myself into wedding planning and work. Michael and I were still on good terms, and he was even helping me not become a bridezilla.

Ellie and I went to every home playoff game, with her going with the wives and girlfriends after the game, and me going home.

I refused to see, or speak to, Carl.

“Babe! You’re gonna be late! Ellie keeps honking outside impatiently.” Michael yelled up the stairs.

I put on the finishing touches to my makeup and grabbed my dress for my party after the game and ran downstairs.

“Okay, okay, okay.” I said as I blew him a kiss as I ran out the door. “I will be back later.”

He waved. “Don’t have too much fun, or forget about me.”

I laughed as I jumped in the car. “Never.”

As I shut the car door, I could practically hear Ellie roll her eyes. “You guys are disgusting.”

I laughed. “Let’s just go watch our boys beat the Rangers, shall we?”

---------

After we beat the Rangers 6-3 to move on to the next round, all the girls and Ellie were going to head down to the family area outside the locker room. When Ellie asked if I was going down, I shook my head.

“No, I am just going to change in the bathroom and will just meet you outside.”

She shrugged as she followed Malin and Vero down.

A half hour later, Ellie and a few of the wives came out laughing as a party bus pulled up.

“Seriously Ellie? We couldn’t have just driven to Diesel?” I said as I rolled my eyes.

“Hell no! This is your last hoorah as a single girl, or at least you keep saying. So we are going all out!”
We all loaded into the bus as Vero started passing around the champagne and glasses.

When everyone had a glass, Malin raised hers to give a toast.

“To Olivia, may you have a blessed life with Michael, with many, many years of happiness.”

I smiled as I took a sip of my glass.

As we go to Diesel, the girls headed to the VIP section, as I headed to the bar to order drinks.

As I waited for the bartender, I felt someone grab my arm.

I turned my head to see Carl as he dragged me outside.

“Um excuse me? What the fuck do you think you are doing?” I asked as we got outside.

“Why have you been ignoring me?”

I crossed my arms. “There hasn’t been anything to say Carl.”

“Bullshit!” he yelled. “About what happened at the rink.”

“That’s the thing, nothing happened. I stopped it before anything did happen.”

He sighed. “But you felt it. That thing between us.”

I shook my head as I lied through my teeth. “No.”

“You are so full of shit.” He laughed as he grabbed my face.

He stared in my eyes for a few moments before putting his lips on mine.

My body felt like fireworks exploding through it, like I never wanted it to end.

But then I snapped back to reality.

I pushed him away and slapped him.

“How dare you!” I exclaimed as I felt the tears forming.

“Olivia I-” he started as he reached for me.

“No!” I said as I took a step back. “Leave me alone. Don’t try to contact me. Just, just don’t Carl.”
I went back inside and ran straight to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw the mascara running down my face.

This shitstorm cannot be happening one week before my wedding.

It just cannot be happening.
