Haunting Grey

Thirteen

"Grey," a voice whispers.

I open my eyes. My room is dark and quiet, the only noise I hear is the ticking of the clock in the kitchen.

"Grey."

There it is again.

But it doesn't sound like Natalie.

"You're not looking," it says. "Look and then you will see all."

"Who are you?" I reply groggily. My head aches dully from lack of sleep, and my mouth tastes like someone stuffed cotton into it.

Then she appears, but something's different about her, I just can't tell what yet.

"Nat," I say softly. "I felt you. Back at the hospital. I felt your hand in mine."

I reach over and flick on the light, then watch her expression. She looks guilty about something, but I'm not sure what.

But that's when I see it, and my stomach twists.

She looks normal. Her skin is flawless. Perfectly stitched back together, like nothing ever happened.

She looks alive.

She smiles and leans over to brush her lips against my cheek.

"I'm always with you, Grey," she tells me. "No matter what happens."
