Every Other Weekend

One

With a heavy sigh, I grabbed my son's hand and walked up to the front door I used to walk in every day.

"Now be good for daddy, okay?"

"Okay mama"

I smiled and kissed Jason's head. He's the only thing keeping me sane and together after my divorce from Matt and I thank God everyday for the angel He's given me.

I rung the doorbell and sighed once again when I heard footsteps.

Matt opened the door and smiled widely at his son.

"Dad!" Jason yelled excitedly and jumped into Matt's arms.

"Hey buddy. You excited for this weekend?"

"Yeah! Can we hang out at the studio?"

"Of course." Matt kissed his temple and then turned to me. "hey buddy why don't you say bye to mama and then go put your bag in your room?"

"Okay!" Jason jumped off Matt and jumped into my arms.

"Bye mama I love you!"

"Love you too baby! Give me a kiss"

He kissed my cheek and then jumped off running into the house.

"Uh hey" Matt said softly.

"Hey. Okay I'll come pick him up Sunday afternoon"

"Okay.. uh do you maybe want to come in.. have coffee?"

I teared up at his soft voice. "No..Matt. No" I said exasperatedly and bid him goodbye.

I never once looked back at the sad man on the porch.
