Gerard's Little Side

Day without daddies.

Danny quickly rang Jim's number.
He was asked to come into work when he wasn't supposed to and Eric had already left. He needed someone to stay with Gerard while he was little.
Gerard had yet to wake up from his slumber.
"Hello?" Jim sounded like he was in bed.
"Hey. This is kind of urgent. I was wondering if you could come over and take care of Gerard."
"Take care of him."
"Yeah. Remember what we talked about?"
"Yeah. You need me there now?"
"That would be nice if you could be. He's still sleeping, but I need someone to be here when he wakes up." Danny explained.
"I'll be there in ten minutes." Jim said then yawned.
"Thanks." Danny said.
"You're welcome. I'll be there soon."
Jim got up and got ready. He shook Dani gently when he was done and said, "I gotta go help Danny with something. I'll be back later today."
"Okay. I love you." She said sleepily.
"I love you." He said back and kissed her.

-

Jim pulled up to the house and the door swung open.
"Thanks for coming on such short notice. I need to get to work. I'll pay you when I get back." Danny said as he shoved a key into Jim's hand and quickly got to his car.
Jim waved to the car and walked up to the house.
It was quiet. Gerard apparently had not woken up still.
He locked the door and yawned again.
Jim went to the living room and laid on the sofa.
It was only 6:45 am.
Jim slowly fell asleep.

-

Jim woke back up around 9 when he heard some shuffling from a separate room. He got up and went down the hall.
He peaked into one of the rooms and saw Gerard sitting on the floor.
"Hey, kid." Jim said quietly.
Gerard's head snapped over to where Jim was standing.
"Where's daddy?" Gerard's voice was equally as low.
"He had to go to work. He asked me to come over and take care of you." Jim explained.
"Oh." Gerard sounded upset.
"Do you need anything?"
"No." Gerard quickly said.
"Danny warned me about this." Jim said. "I think you're just nervous."
Gerard pressed his lips together.
"Come on. Let's get you changed." Jim walked over to the closet and took out a new diaper and the wipes. He also grabbed some powder.
"Alright. Lay down, bud."
Gerard hesitantly laid back.
Gerard blushed and crossed both arms over his face as he felt Jim pulling his pants off and undoing his diaper.
"I know. It's a little weird for me to be doing this, but I think you'll get used to me being around."
Jim was surprisingly fast at changing a diaper.
Jim stood up and said, "I'll be right back. Why don't you pick out some clothes?"
Gerard crawled to his dresser and opened it.
Jim left the room and Gerard just picked out a random shirt and some sweatpants.
"That what you wanna wear?" Jim asked when he came back.
"Yeah! It has pow rangers!" Gerard said excitedly.
Jim came over and helped Gerard out of his shirt.
He slid the power rangers shirt onto the boy and had him stand so he could help him into his gray sweatpants.
Jim lifted the boy up and brought him to the kitchen.
"Are you hungry?"
Gerard didn't say anything. He was still shocked that Jim had picked him up like a child. He had never felt this safe around him.
"Can we have oatmeal?"
"Sure. Do you wanna sit at the table so I can make it?" Jim's voice was calm, like the way he talked to his baby, Lynn.
"Don't wanna be alone." Gerard mumbled.
"Okay. I can hold you. That's alright." Jim rubbed Gerard's back.
"Can you make it the way you used to with the nanas?"
"Of course." Jim smiled, remembering the first time he made oatmeal for Gerard.
Jim got the box of oatmeal out and poured some into a pan to cook on the stove.
Gerard laid his head down on Jim's shoulder.
Jim just continued cooking with one hand and holding Gerard up with the other.
"Baba?"
Jim didn't know he was being talked to. He didn't know why Gerard said baba.
"Baba." Gerard said again, but lifted his head to look at Jim.
"Oh that's me?" Jim looked confused.
Gerard shook his head yes.
"What's up, kiddo?"
"When are my dada and papa gonna be home?"
"I'm actually not sure. Do you want me to call one of them?" Jim asked the boy.
"No. It's okay." Gerard laid his head back down.
Jim rubbed Gerard's back then went back to stirring the oatmeal.
when he was done he took a bowl out of the cabinet and a spoon from the drawer.
He put some oatmeal into the bowl and grabbed a banana. He handed the banana to Gerard and grabbed a knife from the same drawer he found the spoon.
He balanced everything in on hand and brought Gerard to the table.
"Can I sit on your lap?" Gerard rubbed his eye with his free hand.
He looked so small right now and Jim didn't care. He wanted to take car of the boy and prove himself to Eric and Danny.
Jim sat in one of the chairs and kept Gerard in his lap.
Gerard was still facing Jim, but he didn't seem to mind.
Gerard handed the banana to Jim and said, "Don't forget the nana."
Jim took it with a smile and unpeeled it.
He cut the fruit into small pieces and put it on top of the oatmeal.
"Thank you, baba." Gerard said with a smile.
Gerard quickly turned around so he could see his meal.
He picked up the spoon and began feeding himself.
He was getting it all over the place and Jim just laughed lightly.
"Do you need some help, little man?"
Gerard blushed.
"It's okay. We all need help sometimes."
Jim picked up the spoon and held a bite out to Gerard.
Gerard took the bite and ate it.
"Thank you." He said with a smile once he was done chewing.
"This is the bestest oatmeal ever!" Gerard said with much enthusiasm.
"Thank you." Jim smiled. "You know. You're the only one I've ever made this for."
"Special just for me?" Gerard seemed surprised.
"Of course. You were my only boy. I had to treat you better."
Gerard giggled.
"But I'm not your only boy now, baba." Gerard actually sounded quite sad when he said this.
"Yes you are silly." Jim smiled.
"What 'bout Danny?"
"Danny's not my boy."
Gerard looked confused.
Jim fed him another bite. "Why's Danny not?"
Jim continued smiling.
"Danny's not my boy cause I hardly know him." Jim tried to explain.
"But Danny's my brother and you're our baba."
"Okay, kid. Whatever you say."
Gerard seemed fine with that answer.
Gerard was done with his food shortly after and only ended up eating half of the bowl.
"Not hung'y anymore." Gerard turned his face into Jim's neck.
"Alright. What do you usually do after breakfast?"
"Sometimes me and daddy go for walks and sometimes we play and sometimes we watch tv." Gerard shrugged.
Jim took Gerard to the living room and set him on the sofa.
He went to the other side of the long sofa and laid down.
Gerard pouted and looked at Jim. He whined.
"Not allowed to touch the 'mote."
Jim sat up and grabbed the remote from the table.
He turned it on and found the kids channels.
"Nick or Disney?"
Gerard looked like he was told to make a life or death situation.
"How about Nick?"
Gerard didn't say anything. Jim turned the channel to Nick and Paw Patrol was on.
"It's paw trol, baba!"
Jim smiled and laid back down.
The theme song was on and Gerard knew every word.
"Paw trol paw trol. Be there on a double."
Jim watched as the kid sang the entire song.
Slowly throughout the show Gerard started looking more tired.
He hesitantly crawled towards Jim and laid between the small space between him and the sofa.
He laid his head on Jim's chest and continued watching the show.

-

Jim woke up when he felt a light pat on his shoulder.
"Hm?" He moved his head.
Danny was standing there with a smile on his face.
"Ah. Hey, kid." Jim slowly sat up.
Gerard unconsciously tightened his hold on Jim.
"Everything going okay here?"
"Yeah. Uh. You here to stay or just for a bit?"
"I'm on my lunch break. Gotta go back in a bit."
"Alright." Jim yawned.
Jim noticed Danny's eyes look down at Gerard.
"Hi, baby." He said quietly.
"Hi, dada."
Danny smiled and reached a hand out to move some hair from Gerard's face.
"What did he have for breakfast?" Danny asked.
"Made some oatmeal with banana."
"Baba makes the best oatmeal." Gerard said with his head still laid on Jim's chest.
Danny smiled. "Oh does he?"
"Well. Second best." Gerard said.
"And who makes the first best." Jim sounded fake offended.
"Zach." Both Danny and Gerard said at the same time.
Jim just laughed. "Okay. I actually can't argue with that."
"Were you guys just planning on having a lazy day?" Danny asked.
"We were gonna wake up eventually. This kid probably needs a change anyway." Jim said as he poked Gerard's tummy.
Gerard looked like he was ready to nod off again.
"Do you wanna go get changed then we can eat lunch together?" Danny asked Gerard.
"Don't need a change." Gerard mumbled.
"Remember what papa said." Danny warned.
Gerard blushed.
"Come on." He held his arms out for Gerard.
Gerard reached for him.
"We will be right back. Go ahead and help yourself to something in that bag." Danny said as he pointed to the bag of food he brought home from work.
"Daddy." Gerard said quietly.
"What's up, sweet boy?" Danny asked as he walked down the hall, holding Gerard.
"Can Jim watch me again? I like when he's here." Gerard yawned again and laid his head on Danny's shoulder.
"Would you like that, baby?"
Gerard shook his head yes.
Danny laid him on the changing mat and got a diaper out.
He quickly changed the boy and lifted him back up.
"Jim's nice." Gerard said.
"Yeah. He's been a pretty good guy lately." Danny agreed.
"When is papa gonna be home?"
"He'll be home kind of late tonight. You're gonna stay with Jim until 3. Is that okay?"
"What time is it now?"
"It's 12."
"Okay." Gerard sounded slightly upset.
"What's wrong, kiddo?" Danny asked him.
"Don't want you to leave again."
"You'll be okay. I'll be home before you even know it."

-

Danny left once more and Gerard watched him from the living room window.
He began crying as he watched Danny's car drive away.
Danny had stayed and ate lunch with both Jim and Gerard, but had to leave shortly afterwards.
To say the least, Gerard wasn't happy that he left again.
Jim tried calming the boy, but his attempts only made Gerard cry more and more.
Jim tried turning the tv on and putting Gerard's favorite movie in. It was currently The Angry Birds movie.
"Don't wanna watch it!" Gerard collapsed onto the floor and covered his ears.
Jim just kept it playing and sat on the sofa.
"No!" Gerard whined and thrashed around on the floor.
"Gerard. Calm down, buddy."
Gerard kept crying and attempted to calm himself by putting his fingers in his mouth.
He was restless and he just wanted his daddies.
Gerard wiped his eyes several times, attempting to stop the tears.
He eventually gave up halfway through the movie and climbed onto the sofa.
He laid his head on Jim's leg and sniffled. He was still suckling on the fingers lodged in his mouth.
Jim wasn't surprised when he heard Gerard's breathing even out.

-

Eric walked into his apartment and went to the living room.
Jim turned his head and saw Eric standing there.
"Hey. I got off early."
Eric came over to Jim and Gerard.
"How long has he been sleeping?"
"Well he was crying a bit after Dan left and he fell asleep about 30 minutes ago."
Eric gently ran a hand through Gerard's hair.
The boy didn't stir at all.
"Do you mind keeping an eye on him for a few more minutes so I can go get changed?"
Gerard moved after Eric had left and stuck a thumb into his mouth.
Jim just ran a hand through Gerard's hair.

-

Gerard was wide awake when Eric came back into the room.
"Hi, papa." Gerard yawned.
"Hey, kiddo." Eric leaned down and lifted up the boy.
"Did you have a good day with Jim?" Eric asked.
"Mmhm." Gerard shook his head yes.
"Did you have a rough time when Daddy left?"
Gerard's cheeks turned a light shade of pink.
"That's okay. I know you don't like when he leaves."
"Not fun. " Gerard pouted.
Eric just smiled and kissed the boy.
"How about we go to the park and see if Sid and Jake wanna meet us there?"
"Ok." Gerard said quietly.
"Thanks for staying so long, Jim."
"No problem. Call any time."
"Bye, baba." Gerard waved in a very childlike way.
"Bye, kid." Jim patted Gerard's shoulder and waved back. "I'll see you later."
"Bye, Jim." Eric said.
