Somebody Like Me

Epilogue: I Must Be Doing Something Right

Carefully clipping the last of her dark hair into place, Cassie spared a small look towards the mirror which stood ahead of her, scanning her appearance quietly. It had been a while, after her father and Nora had shared the news of their engagement, a little over eighteen months had passed, but with the wedding scheduled for that afternoon, Cassie had to admit that she was slightly excited, even if the idea of her father getting married was a still a little odd to her, she was looking forwards to the moment that her father and Nora made it up the aisle.

It had taken them a while, after they’d shared the news that they planned to get married, it had taken Alonso and Nora a while to finalize their wedding plans, but she was looking forwards to it. She was sure that Nora would look beautiful and that her father, who was still remarkably smitten with the blonde, would be suitably blown away by his bride.

Ensuring that her hair looked alright, she moved to smooth out the material of her dress a little before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached her ears, causing her to lift her head, her green eyes settling on Sergio who stood in the door way, an amused smirk on his lips, a sight which made Cassie roll her eyes, quickly flicking her attention down towards her feet. “I thought you were busy getting the children ready” she quipped, fiddling with the bottom of her dress.

Sergio, who’d taken a couple of steps into the room, shrugged. “I was” he noted “But then your papa offered to watch them for a few moments and I thought I would come and see how you were getting on. We both know that it takes you a while to get ready and we do have to get moving sometime today” he added impishly.

Cassie rolled her eyes playfully before she shook her head. “I just need to put a pair of shoes on and then I’ll be ready” she noted softly “How is my papa doing?” she added, gently slipping her feet into her heels.

Sergio, who’d moved to slip his phone into his jacket pocket, smiled a little at the fussing tone of her voice before he shook his head. “He’s a little nervous” he noted “I mean, he’s trying to distract himself by playing with the children, but I am sure that he’ll be fine. He looks a lot more composed than I did the morning of our wedding” he added as he stepped towards her, wrapping his arms happily around her waist as he pressed a soft kiss against her shoulder.

Cassie smiled a little at the embrace, resting back against him for a couple of seconds, before she turned around, gently hooking her arms up around his neck. Sergio smirked a little at the action before he ducked his head, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. Cassie smiled gently at the contact, holding him close for a few seconds before the words ‘mama, papa’ reached her ears, causing her to duck away slightly, offering him a playful roll of her green eyes. “Duty calls” she mumbled softly.

Sergio let out a soft laugh before he nodded his head. “It does” he noted gently “Why don’t I check on the children whilst you check on your papa? We need to get moving soon” he added as he stepped towards the door, offering his hand back towards her.

Cassie admired his hand for a couple of seconds before she smiled gently, moving to knot her fingers through his before Sergio lifted her hand, pressing a soft kiss against the warm skin. Offering her another boyish smile, he squeezed her hand softly, before he guided her out of the room, mumbling about them needing to get moving.

Sipping on her glass of champagne, Cassie quirked a bright smile, her green eyes settled on her father and Nora who stood a little away from her, finishing their first dance as a married couple. It had been a beautiful day, from the moment that Nora had arrived at the hotel that they’d opted to get married in, Alonso had looked over the moon, and Cassie thrilled for him, even if he had fretted for most of the morning that Nora wouldn’t arrive. She was more than happy with how the day had worked out for the two of them.

Taking another small sip of her drink, she watched her father and step-mother for a couple more seconds before she felt something nudge against her leg, causing her to look down, her green eyes settling on Luna who stared up at her, a soft pout on her features. “What’s the matter, princesa?” she murmured softly “What’ve you done with your papa and brothers, eh?” she posed as she lifted the little girl into her lap, smoothing out the pastel blue dress she wore.

Luna fussed for a couple of seconds before she cuddled into her mother, allowing a soft yawn to fall out of her mouth. Cassie smiled a little at the sleepy look on the toddler’s face before she ducked down, pressing a soft kiss against the top of her head as she tried to smooth out the toddler’s dark hair. It hadn’t been a surprise, as the children had grown, they’d all started to favour Sergio’s looks over Cassie’s, but the brunette didn’t mind. If anything, she was glad that their children resembled their father.

“I think we might need to head upstairs for a bit”

Cassie, who’d been quietly fussing over Luna, startled a little at the sound of Sergio’s voice before she lifted her head, tilting it slightly. “Huh?” she posed.

“We’ve got a room upstairs” Sergio clarified with a small smirk, not missing the fact that he had caught her off guard “And, if we don’t want these three making a fuss during your papa’s speech, we’re going to have to duck out for a little while to settle them down for a nap. Do you think that we can manage that?” he asked, carefully shifting a sleepy Oscar on his hip.

Cassie watched him for a moment, not missing the small yawn which had fallen out of Oscar’s mouth, before she nodded her gently. “I’m sure that we can handle that” she noted gently “I’ll just let my papa know and then we can go” she added gently before she pushed herself up to her feet, padding towards her father who stood a little away from them, fussing over Nora.

Sergio watched after her for a couple of seconds, his dark eyes admiring her, before he quietly shook his head, a small smirk appearing at the corner of his mouth. It had been a long time, he and Cassie had been together for a while, but he doubted that he would ever find himself tired of looking at her, something which made him hopeful that things would continue to work for them, even if they did hit their bumps along the way, he was confident that things between them would stay good for a long time to come.

“Is Noah asleep?”

Sergio, who’d moved to pad into the living room of the hotel suite that he had rented, startled a little at the sound of Cassie’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a small smile. “It took a little while” he noted “I mean, your papa had promised that he could have a piece of cake and that meant that he was a little reluctant to fall asleep, but he’s napping now. Are the twins OK?” he posed, moving to settle down on the couch beside her.

Cassie nodded. “Luna was out pretty much as soon as her head hit the pillow” she noted gently “Oscar was a little more fussy, but they’re asleep now and they should be for a little while yet” she added gently, her fingers fiddling softly with the hem of the dress she wore.

Sergio admired the small nimble movements of her fingers before he lightly shook his head, his hand gently moving to take a hold of hers. “Have I mentioned how beautiful you look today?” he posed softly, his fingers gently messing with hers.

Cassie’s cheeks warmed a little before she lightly shook her head. “I don’t think you’ve mentioned it” she noted “But it would be pretty nice to hear it” she added, flashing him a playful smile.

Sergio scoffed out a small laugh before he shook his head, leaning a little closer to her. “You look amazing, Cass” he fussed softly “I mean, you do most of the time, but today? It’s something else” he fussed, his fingertips lightly brushing a few stray hairs off of her cheeks.

Cassie’s already pink cheeks darkened a fraction before she leant into him, sneaking a couple of brief kisses before she leant back, pressing her forehead against his. “You’re pretty amazing, you know that?” she fussed, messing with the tie which sat around his neck.

Sergio quirked a small amused smirk. “I must be” he played along “I mean, you married me and we’re still married. I must be doing something right” he added impishly.

Cassie giggled softly before she gently tugged on his tie, pulling him into another soft kiss, something which made Sergio smile softly. Things had happened quickly, after he had bumped into Cassie, their relationship had moved at a swift pace, but Sergio was more than happy with the outcome, even if they had hit a few bumps along the way, he was pleased by the way that things had worked out.
