Somebody Like Me

Twenty: Early Days

Letting out a small noise of annoyance, Cassie rolled onto her side, pulling her pillow over her ears in order to block out the irksome sound which emanated away from the alarm clock which sat on the end table beside the bed. It was early, with her due to head to work, she had deliberately set the alarm a little earlier than normal in order to afford her the opportunity to head home before she went to work, but still she was irked by the noise. She was comfortable, warm, and didn’t want to get up before it was one hundred percent necessary.

Pulling the pillow over her ears, she moved to snuggle into the mattress a little more before the bed shifted, something which caused he to pull the pillow away from her head, her green eyes watching as Sergio leant over her, flicking the alarm off. “You know you’re supposed to get up when that goes off, don’t you?” he quipped as he moved to rest back against the mattress, a small yawn tumbling out of his mouth.

Cassie nodded. “I do” she confirmed “But right now, I am quite comfortable” she added, sparing him a small impish smile. It felt a little awkward, despite the fact that it wasn’t the first time, waking up together felt a little unfamiliar to her, but she had to admit that she felt slightly better after the conversation that they’d shared the previous night. She felt better knowing that she wasn’t the only one who was slightly nervous about the way things had changed for them.

Sergio admired the soft smile she wore before he shifted slightly, allowing him to press a soft kiss against her lips. Cassie startled a little, slightly caught off guard by the soft kiss, before she wound her arms around his neck, holding him close to her for a few seconds before she jerked away, causing Sergio to tilt his head. “Cass?” he posed, his forehead furrowed slightly.

Cassie paused for a brief second before she scooted away from him, quickly ducking into the bathroom.

Sergio frowned at the sudden movements before he pushed himself up, following her into the bathroom. “Cass?” he posed softly.

Cassie, who was settled on the ground beside the toilet, jumped a little at the sound of his voice before she lifted her head, offering him a feeble smile. “Sorry to ruin the moment” she quipped softly.

Sergio spared a small laugh before he shook his head, sitting down at her side. “It’s alright” he quipped “I’m sure we’ll get another one. Are you alright?” he asked, gently moving to tangle their fingers together.

Cassie shrugged. “It’s no fun” she quipped “But it’s starting to fade a little and Elsa says it should be gone pretty soon, something I am greatly looking forwards to. I’ve missed waking up in the morning and not wanting to throw up” she added, her voice bright and cheerful.

Sergio smiled a little before he ducked his head, pressing a gentle kiss against her shoulder. “Do you need me to get you anything?” he mumbled, gently working his way up her neck with soft kisses.

Cassie leant into him, enjoying the soft embrace for a couple of seconds, before she shook her head. “I just need a couple of minutes” she noted softly “And then I should be alright to get moving. I’ve got to get dressed so that I can head back to mine to get ready for work” she added, pushing the dark hair out of her eyes.

Sergio nodded his head softly before he wrapped an arm around her waist, coaxing her into a soft hug. Cassie thought about protesting, telling him that it wasn’t necessary for him to sit with her, but she opted against it, cuddling into his side slightly. Sergio smiled a little, glad to see that she’d relaxed a little, before he pressed a soft kiss against the top of her head. “I’ve been thinking” he mumbled softly, disturbing the silence which had settled over them.

Cassie, who’d been tracing the pattern of the tattoo on his arm, lifted her head, her eyebrow lifted quizzically. “You have?” she posed.

Sergio nodded. “I know it is still early days” he mused softly “I mean, we’ve only been together properly for a little while, but I thought…I thought maybe you’d not mind meeting a few of my friends” he added, offering her a soft look. He didn’t want to push it, for a while, things between him and Cassie were going to be cautious and nervous, but he wanted to try and nudge things forwards, even if he was wary about trying to push things too far too quickly. He wanted them to start getting used to the idea that, for the foreseeable future at least, they were going to be in one another’s lives.

Cassie tilted her head. “You want me to meet your friends?” she asked.

Sergio offered her another nod. “I do” he confirmed softly “I mean, it doesn’t haven’t to be straight away, but I think we need to get used to the idea that we’re kind of stuck with one another for a while” he quipped, his voice bright and teasing as he shifted his hand, gently brushing it against the slight bump that she carried.

Cassie spared a small look down towards his hand before she shook her head, a small smile appearing on her face. “I think I could probably handle meeting a few of your friends” she noted softly “But I’d like to do it a few at a time. I don’t want to meet everyone at once” she clarified softly.

“I am sure that we can arrange that” Sergio mused warmly “I’ve got a couple in mind. We could make it into a double date” he added, his thumb gently tracing comforting circles into the material of his shirt that she wore.

Cassie watched the movement of his thumb before she nodded her head. “I’m sure that I can handle that” she mused softly “But it does mean that you owe me one. I’ve got a friend who I am certain will be itching to meet peanut’s padre” she added, poking his cheek playfully.

Sergio feigned a dramatic sigh, something which made Cassie roll her eyes playfully. “You’re an idiot, you know that?” she quipped, poking his cheek once more.

Sergio nodded proudly. “I do” he confirmed “But you’re stuck with me, I’m afraid” he added with an impish grin.

Cassie rolled her eyes once more before she leant up, sneaking a brief peck on the lips before she pushed herself back up to her feet. “As fun as this is, I do have to get going so that I’m not late for work” she noted “You’ll set up the date with your friends?” she posed.

Sergio, who’d pulled himself up beside her, nodded. “I will do” he noted “And I will let you know when it is. You’ll set up me meeting your friend?” he posed, his arms once more wrapping around her waist.

“Of course I will” Cassie nodded “But right now, I really do have to get ready to go. I’ll see you soon?” she asked, peeking over her shoulder at him.

Sergio ducked down, stealing a brief kiss, before he nodded his head, ducking out of the bathroom to enable her to get ready.

Cassie watched after him briefly before she quirked a grin, wordlessly musing about how well things seemed to be working between the two of them.
