Somebody Like Me

Forty: Home

Sparing a gentle yawn into his hand, Sergio glanced towards the door which stood ahead of him, glad to be home. It had been a long weekend, with the start of the season closing in, Sergio had spent the weekend in Barcelona to play a part in the Spanish super cup, but after a less than pleasing draw, he was more than glad to be home, even if his house was still littered with cardboard boxes, he was looking forwards to the opportunity to relax a little.

Allowing another yawn to slip out of his mouth, he adjusted his kit bag on his shoulder slightly before he dipped his hand into his pocket, pulling out his key. Slipping it into the lock, he nudged the door open before he quietly padded inside, settling his bag down beside the door before he padded into the living room, a small smile appearing at the corner of his mouth as he spotted the few cardboard boxes which still lingered in the room. It had been a little while, after Cassie had agreed to move in with him, a few weeks had passed, but still Sergio was pleased with how things were progressing, even if things had moved slowly, he was simply pleased that things seemed to be falling into place before the baby arrived.

Shaking his head a little, he moved to toe off his shoes before the sound of footsteps reached him, causing him to lift his head slightly, his dark eyes settling on Cassie who’d padded down the stairs, her headphones perched in her ears. Quirking another small smile, he admired her for a couple of moments before he stepped towards her, his fingers lightly tugging on her headphones.

Cassie jumped, not quite expecting the movement, before she lifted her head, a smile quickly appearing on her lips. “You’re back” she noted.

“I am” Sergio confirmed “You weren’t expecting me?” he added, his voice bright and teasing.

Cassie offered him a small playful roll of her green eyes, something which caused Sergio to chuckle softly before he took a step towards her, greeting her with a soft kiss on the cheek. “Hola, Cassie” he mumbled softly.

Cassie’s cheeks warmed a little at the soft contact before she shook her head. “You know that you were only gone for a couple of days, right?” she teased softly.

“I do” Sergio confirmed softly “But I am glad to be home. You’re still unpacking?” he posed, sparing a small glance around the room. It had taken a while, boxing up and moving Cassie’s things from her apartment to his house had taken longer than Sergio had been anticipating, but he was still pleased that they’d done it, even if he knew that Cassie was still a little apprehensive about the idea. He liked the idea of coming home to her.

“It’s a work in progress” Cassie replied, her fingers playing with his slightly “I mean, I’ve still got a lot of work to do to unpack all of my stuff upstairs, let alone down here. You don’t mind, do you?” she posed softly, her green eyes peeking shyly into his darker ones.

Sergio admired the nervous expression she wore before he shook his head, his hand lightly squeezing hers. “Of course I don’t, Cass” he mused softly “I mean, I didn’t realize that you owned so much stuff, but I don’t mind at all, even if your boxes are taking up a lot of space. I still can’t quite believe that you said yes” he fussed softly, a half smile playing at the corner of his mouth.

He knew that she was still worried, the look on her face confided just how nervous was, but Sergio wanted to offer her a little reassurance, even if he knew that it wasn’t likely to soothe her nerves, he wanted her to know that he was excited about the idea of them moving forwards in their relationship.

Cassie smiled a little at his fussing before she carefully leant forwards, pressing a soft kiss against his lips. “I should get back to it” she mused softly “I was just about to start unboxing the baby clothes and I thinking about making a start on packing a hospital bag. It’s not going to be too much longer before we need one” she murmured before she pressed another kiss against his lips, moving to pad back up the stairs.

Sergio watched her up the stairs for a couple of moments before he shook his head, another grin appearing at the corner of his mouth. He knew that it was going to take a little time, with Cassie still a little nervous about things progressing too quickly between the two of them, he knew that it would take some time for things to feel entirely settled between them, but he was optimistic, even if the notion of living with Cassie did feel unfamiliar to him. He was convinced that it was a good time to make a step forwards.

“You know, there really is no rush on you unpacking everything”

Cassie, who’d been folding the sleepsuit which she held in her hands, startled a little at the sound of Sergio’s voice before she lifted her head, her green eyes peeking towards where he stood in the door way, a slightly amused smile perched on his face. It had been a quiet afternoon, after Sergio had arrived home, Cassie had busied herself with unpacking the plethora of boxes which still seemed to fill the house, but she was pleased that she was making a little progress, even if it did seem slow. She was glad that she was working through it.

“I know that” she agreed softly “But I want to get it done as soon as I can. I don’t think cardboard boxes add a lot to the décor” she added, quirking a small smile.

Sergio, who’d moved to step a little further into the room, spared a soft laugh before he shook his head, gently moving to sit down on the floor at her side. “Probably not” he agreed softly “But there is really no rush on you getting everything unpacked. We’ve kind of got something else to be a little focused on right now” he added, his hand gently moving to settle atop her bump. It wasn’t far away, Cassie’s due date was only a matter of weeks ahead of them, and Sergio wanted to ensure that the last few weeks of her pregnancy passed without a hitch.

Cassie spared a soft look down towards his hand before she nodded her head quietly, something which caused Sergio to lean towards her, pressing a light kiss against the side of her head. “There’s no need to rush, Cassie” he mused softly “The last thing I want is for you to think that you have to get everything sorted out quickly. I want you to be comfortable here, it’s home now” he added, a slight grin pulling at the corner of his mouth as the word ‘home’ fell out of his mouth.

“Home?” Cassie posed, her voice caught between teasing and curious.

Sergio nodded. “It’s our home” he confirmed gently “Me, you, and peanut” he added, his thumb gently tracing circles into the material of her shirt.

Cassie watched the small movements of his thumb for a couple of seconds before she carefully tilted her head, pressing a light kiss against his chin which caused him to duck down, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. Cassie smiled a little at the contact before she gently pulled away from him, her hands moving to collect the small sleepsuit which sat on her lap. “He’ll be here soon” she murmured softly “Can you quite believe that?” she added gently.

Sergio, who’d moved to take the piece of clothing from her head, shook his head. “I still can’t quite believe that you’re pregnant” he quipped “But it’s sort of exciting, isn’t it?” he added, his fingers gingerly brushing over the material he had settled on the floor ahead of him.

Cassie nodded her head. “It’s pretty exciting” she agreed softly “A little terrifying too, but pretty exciting. We’re going to be parents, Sergio” she added, her voice soft and awed.

Sergio let out a soft chuckle before he nodded his head. “Yes, we are” he agreed.
