Somebody Like Me

Forty Three: Just The Three Of Us

“Did you get everything?”

Sergio, who was quietly fussing over Noah, lifted his head at the sound of Cassie’s voice before he quirked a small smile, his dark eyes settling on where she stood in the doorway, pulling the last strands of hair into her loose braid.

It had been a long night, with Noah proving to be a little fussy, opportunities for Sergio and Cassie to sleep had been few and far between, but Sergio hadn’t minded, even if he did find himself slightly tired, he had enjoyed spending time with the little boy. It still felt a little strange, the idea that he and Cassie had a baby was one which was going to take more than a little while to settle in, but he was confident that they would make things work, even if it did take a little adaptation. He liked the idea that they were a little family of three.

“I think so” he replied gently “I mean, I can’t see anything obvious that we’ve left behind, but if there is, I will replace it. Right now, my only interest is in getting my beautiful girlfriend and our adorable little boy home” he added, a boyish smile perched on his face.

Cassie, who’d moved to collect her sweater from its spot on the bed, rolled her eyes slightly as her cheeks tinted a soft shade of pink, something which made Sergio chuckle lightly before he pushed himself up to his feet, his arms moving to settle around her waist. “What about you?” he posed softly “Are you nearly ready to get out of here?” he added, dropping a soft kiss against her shoulder. He knew that it hadn’t been long, after Cassie’s waters had broken, only a day had passed, but already Sergio was looking forwards to heading home, even if he knew that it was likely to mark the start of a flood of visitors, he couldn’t wait to get Noah and Cassie home.

Cassie smiled a little at the feel of his arms around her waist before she leant back, her head resting against his shoulder. “I am more than ready” she mused softly “I mean, I know it’s not been that long, but I am more than looking forwards to the chance to fall asleep in my own bed” she added, her eyes closing contently.

Sergio admired the soft look on her face for a moment before he ducked down, pressing a soft kiss against the top of her head. “You know” he mumbled softly “I am pretty happy that you got knocked up” he added as he rested his head against hers.

Cassie snorted. “That’s not what your face said when I told you” she quipped, an impish look appearing on her face as she peeked up at him.

Sergio rolled his eyes. “You caught me by surprise” he countered “But I am still so happy that it happened. We’ve got a baby, Cass, an adorable little baby, and I don’t quite know how to…”

“You don’t have to say it” Cassie interrupted softly, knowing what was coming “You said it yourself when I told you that I was pregnant. This is on both of us” she added, flashing him another soft smile.

Sergio marveled at the expression she wore before he ducked into her, sneaking a soft kiss before he ducked back, returning her smile gently before he mumbled something about getting out of the hospital. Cassie watched him for a couple of seconds, her smile widening as he moved to fuss over Noah, before she shook her head. It had come as a surprise, her pregnancy had come out of nowhere, but she was thrilled that it had happened, even if it was still early days. She liked her little family.

“Your padre is going to drop by this afternoon”

Cassie, who’d been settling Noah down into his Moses’ basket, startled a little at the sound of Sergio’s voice before she lifted her head, watching as he stepped back into the living room, his phone clutched in his hand. It had been a quiet morning, after they’d been visited by Elsa, they’d been quick to leave the hospital, and Cassie was pleased to be home, even if it hadn’t been too long since they’d been there, she was glad to be back where she felt content and safe.

“He is?” she posed softly.

Sergio nodded. “He’s pretty excited” he commented with a half-smile as he sat down beside her “But I told him that we wanted a little to get used to being at home before people started to come by” he added softly, his dark eyes peeking down towards Noah who stirred a little in his sleep.

Cassie followed the line of his stare for a moment before she gently nudged his shoulder, pulling his attention back towards her. “You know” she quipped softly “Eventually, you’re going to have to let other people meet him” she added gently, her hand taking a hold of his.

Sergio spared a glance down towards their hands before he nodded his head, his hand squeezing hers lightly. “I know that” he quipped “I mean, I doubt I could keep your padre and my parents away even if I tried, but, for a little while, I’d like it to just be the three of us. I like this, Cass, our little family, and it’s something I want to keep to myself, even if it is only for a few more hours” he added, his thumb gently brushing over the back of her hand. He knew that she was right, eventually, he was going to have to allow their friends and family to meet Noah, but he wanted to put it off for a little while, even if he knew that he couldn’t avoid it for long. He wanted to make the most of the time they had alone.

Cassie quirked a small smile at his words before she leant up, kissing his cheek softly. “You’re pretty cute, you know that?” she poked playfully.

“I try” Sergio quipped, offering her a nonchalant shrug.

Cassie rolled her eyes playfully before Noah let out another soft sound in his sleep, something which made her smile softly before she carefully reached her hand out, straightening the sleepsuit he wore.

“He looks like you”

Cassie jumped a little, caught off guard by Sergio’s voice, before she tilted her head, looking up at him. “You think?” she posed softly.

Sergio nodded. “He’s got my hair” he mused softly “But other than that, he looks more like you than me. He’s adorable, Cass” he added, flashing her a gentle smile.

Cassie’s cheeks tinted a soft shade of pink before she shook her head, something which made Sergio smile gently before he ducked towards her, pressing a soft kiss against her cheek. “I love you, Cassie” he mumbled softly “Both of you” he added, peeking towards Noah briefly before the sound of his phone buzzing filled the air.

Shaking his head a little, he scanned the screen of his phone before he pushed himself up to his feet. “It’s my parents” he quipped “I ought to take this. I’ll be back in a second” he added before he ducked out of the room.

Cassie watched him out of the door for a couple of moments before she gently shook her head, hoping that their little bubble remained intact for a little while to come.
