Somebody Like Me

Forty Four: The Best Kind Of Strange

Wrinkling her nose slightly, Cassie peeked one of her green eyes open, her ears filled with the distant sound of the doorbell ringing. It had been a little while, after she and Sergio had arrived home with Noah, the defender had been quick to insist that she rest for a little while before their parents started to show up, and she was appreciative of the gesture, especially after the previous night, she was appreciative of the opportunity to rest for a little while. Frowning a little, she listened to the distant sound of the doorbell for a couple of seconds before she carefully sat up, her hand straightening out her dark hair slightly.

“You’re awake”

Cassie, who’d moved to spill a yawn into her hand, startled a little at the sound of Sergio’s voice before she nodded her head, turning to peek up at him. “I am” she confirmed softly “Have I been asleep for long?” she posed, another soft yawn slipping out of her mouth.

Sergio, who was leant against the doorframe which led into the living room, shrugged. “A couple of hours” he mused softly “But you looked like you needed it. I’ve only come to get you now because your padre has just arrived and my parents aren’t too far behind. Do you want me to leave you to it? I mean, your papa is going to want to talk to you at some point but if you want me too…”

“Sese, it’s fine” Cassie interrupted softly, a small amused smile appearing at the corner of her mouth. It wasn’t the first time, since Noah had arrived, Sergio had developed a habit of fussing over her, and Cassie had to admit that it was sweet, even if it did have the potential to become a little overbearing, she had to admit that she liked the idea that he wanted to take care of her.

Sergio blinked a couple of times, slightly surprised by the interruption, before he shook his head, a small nervous laugh falling out of his mouth. “I’m sorry for fussing” he mumbled softly.

Cassie, who’d moved to push herself up to her feet, took a couple of steps towards him before she ducked into him, pressing a light kiss against his cheek. “You don’t have to apologize for that” she mumbled softly “I think that it’s pretty cute” she added, pressing another soft kiss against his cheek.

Sergio flashed her a soft smile before the sound of Noah’s cries filled the air, causing him to shake his head slightly. “I think that that is probably our cue to head through to the kitchen” he quipped softly “I think Noah’s probably looking for his madre” he added, his hand gently moving to take a hold of hers.

Cassie smiled a little at the fit of their fingers before she padded out of the room, pulling Sergio along behind her as she padded into the kitchen, her green eyes settling on her father who sat beside the kitchen table, quietly fussing over Noah who rested in his Moses basket, a few soft whimpers falling out of his mouth. Quirking a small smile, she watched her father for a couple of seconds before she gently stepped towards him, placing a hand against his shoulder. “Papa?” she posed softly.

Alonso, who’d been quietly watching Noah, startled at the feel of her hand before he lifted his head, his expression brightening as he set his eyes on her. “Cassandra” he breathed softly “Sweetheart, how are you feeling?” he added gently.

Cassie, who’d moved to lift Noah into her arms, quirked a small smile before she shrugged her shoulders lightly. “I’m alright” she mused softly “I mean, I’m still pretty sore and I’m still pretty tired, but I am feeling pretty good, papa” she added warmly, her green eyes not shifting away from Noah who had settled into her arms, his blue eyes peeking quietly around them.

Alonso offered her a slightly dubious look, wordlessly asking if she was sure, before he shook his head, a proud smile appearing on his lips. “I can’t quite believe that my little girl is a madre herself now” he fussed softly “I mean, I still seems like only yesterday that I was bringing you home and now…now Noah is here. He’s so…so perfect, Cassandra” he babbled softly, his eyes settling once more on the baby which sat in his daughter’s arms. It felt a little surreal, the idea that his daughter had had a baby of her own was one which was going to take a little getting used to, but Alonso was happy for her, even if her pregnancy had come along out of the blue. He was pleased to see his daughter looking so happy.

“It is a little strange” Cassie mused softly “But it’s a good kind of strange, no?” she added, sparing a glance towards Sergio who stood in the doorway, a doting smile perched on his face.

Alonso watched the small interaction with a grin before he nodded his head. “It’s a wonderful kind of strange” he enthused softly before Noah let out another soft cry, something which caused Cassie to shake her head softly.

“I think someone is probably looking for another feed” she mused softly “I am going to take him into the other room. Are you two going to be OK for a few minutes?” she posed, flicking her stare between her father and her boyfriend.

“I think we’ll be able to cope, Cassandra” Alonso quipped “We’re both big boys and we promise not to fight” he added, offering her a teasing smile.

Cassie rolled her eyes slightly before she flicked her attention towards Sergio, wordlessly asking if he was sure, something which caused him to chuckle a little before he stepped towards her, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head. “I’m sure that we can cope without you for a few minutes, nena” he teased impishly.

Cassie rolled her eyes once more, mumbling something about both her boyfriend and father being idiots, before she padded out of the room.

“You know, you’re probably the best thing that’s happened to her in a while”

Sergio, who’d been watching Cassie and Noah out of the room, startled a little at the sound of Alonso’s voice before he turned around slightly, a shy smile playing on his lips. “You think so?” he posed softly.

Alonso admired the shy look on his face before he nodded his head. “I know it wasn’t part of your plan” he noted softly “I mean, I don’t think either you or Cassandra intended for her to fall pregnant when she did, but it has been good for her. She looks happy, Sergio, so happy and I am pretty convinced that a lot of that is to do with you and that adorable little boy that she’s just carried out of the room” he added, his tone warm and encouraging.

Sergio mulled his words over for a second before he shook his head, a coy smile on his face. “You’re right” he mused “It wasn’t a part of our plan, but I am still very happy that it worked out the way that it has, Alonso. Your daughter, she’s amazing, and whilst I can’t promise that it will always be perfect, I can tell you that I have very little intention of letting her, or Noah, go. They make happy, Alonso” he added, a warm smile appearing on his face. He knew where the older man was going, the look on his face made it obvious, and Sergio wanted to reassure him. Things were good, he and Cassie had settled into things, and he wanted to keep it that way. He liked where they were.

Alonso spared him a look, mulling his words over, before he quirked a grin. “I hope that you make things work, Sergio” he enthused “Don’t tell Cassandra, but I think you might be my favourite one of her boyfriends” he added, offering him another boyish smile.

Sergio chuckled brightly before he shook the older man’s hand, wordlessly vowing that he would try as hard as he could to keep things between him and Cassie together.
