Somebody Like Me

Sixty Eight: It Looks Like It

Pulling the door closed behind him, Sergio spared a small relieved sigh, glad to be home. It had been a long morning, with the Clasico due to take place that weekend, the coaching team seemed to be working the team harder than usual, and Sergio was pleased to be home. He couldn’t wait to relax for a little while. Shrugging his jacket off, he quickly moved to hang it up before he padded through towards the living room, his dark eyes settling on Cassie who sat on the couch, chatting happily with Mia who sat across from her, Noah settled happily in her arms.

It had been a little while, after they’d talked about the idea of Cassie moving to Paris, a few weeks had passed, and Sergio had to admit that he was pleased with the way things had settled down, even if things had been awkward for a few days after Cassie had made the decision to stay, things between the two of them seemed to be largely back to normal, something which thrilled the defender.

He knew that it was something she wanted, the idea of working abroad in the future was something that appealed to her, but Sergio was pleased that she had stayed, even if he knew it was something they were going to have to think about in the future. He was more than happy that she had decided to stay with him.

“You’re back late”

Sergio, who’d drifted off slightly, blinked a little at the sound of Cassie’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a small smile. “I know I am” he mused “With the Clasico on Sunday, the coaches are determined to leave no stone unturned and that means a lot more work for the next few days, but I am home now. Aren’t you pleased to see me?” he quipped playfully as he stepped towards the couch, plopping down beside her.

Cassie rolled her eyes. “You’ve only been gone for a couple of hours” she pointed out.

“I know that” Sergio mused “But I know you miss me when I’m not around” he added, pressing a playful kiss against her cheek.

Cassie scoffed lightly and pushed him back slightly, something which Sergio chuckle softly before the sound of Mia clearing her throat reached his ears, causing him to lift his head, offering her a small smile. “Mia” he mused gently “It’s good to see you” he added gently.

“It’s good to see you too, Sergio” Mia greeted softly “But it will be a flying visit. Theo’s just texted and invited me to lunch, so I am going to leave you to it. Cassie, we’ll talk again soon?” she added gently as she pushed herself up to her feet, moving to settle Noah in the defender’s arms.

Cassie nodded her head. “Of course” she mused softly.

Mia offered the couple a polite smile before she ducked out of the room, leaving them alone.

Sergio quietly watched her out of the room before he flicked his attention down towards Noah, offering the little boy a soft grin before he moved to settle him on the floor beside his toys, affording him the opportunity to settle back down beside Cassie who was quietly shuffling away a couple of magazines which sat on the coffee table. “I didn’t know that you’d invited Mia over” he mused softly, disturbing the comfortable quiet which had fallen over the room.

Cassie, who’d been tidying up slightly, shook her head. “It had been a while” she mused softly “And I thought it would be nice to catch up. She popped over for a cup of coffee and to see Noah” she added gently.

Sergio nodded his head quietly before he spotted the magazine which sat in her hand, something which caused him to tilt his head slightly. “Cass?” he posed lightly “Is that a wedding magazine?” he posed, a slightly amused grin playing at the corner of his mouth. It wasn’t something that they’d talked about a lot, with Cassie being slightly hesitant about the idea of them moving things forwards too much too quickly, they’d put off any talk of wedding planning, and it surprised Sergio to see a wedding magazine in her hand, even if it was something he wanted to start thinking about. He had thought that it would be a little while longer before they started to think about their wedding day.

Cassie followed the line of his stare, her cheeks tinting a soft shade of pink, before she shook her head lightly. “It might be” she mumbled coyly.

Sergio quirked a small amused smile at the soft colour of her cheeks before he took a step towards her, carefully slipping the magazine out of her hand. “It looks like a wedding magazine to me” he teased softly.

Cassie rolled her eyes gently before she shook her head, gently moving to settle down on the couch. “I bought it a couple of days ago” she admitted softly.

Sergio, who’d moved to sit down beside her, tilted his head. “You bought it?” he teased.

Cassie offered him a pointed glance before she shook her head softly. “It was something you said you wanted to start doing when we talking about Paris” she mused softly “You said that you wanted to start thinking about planning our wedding and I thought…I thought it couldn’t hurt to start thinking about it” she babbled gently, her fingers pulling at a loose thread which poked out of the throw which covered the couch.

Sergio watched her for a moment, briefly mulling over her words, before he carefully leant into her, pressing a couple of brisk kisses against her lips. Cassie startled, not expecting the kisses, before she gently pushed him back, a small look of confusion etched onto her features. “What was that for?” she posed gently.

Sergio offered her a small smile before he gently took a hold of her hand, slotting their fingers together. “It was my way of saying that that idea makes me very happy” he mused softly, his thumb light brushing over the back of her hand.

“It does?” Cassie posed softly.

Sergio quirked a small smile before he nodded his head. “I thought I’d be waiting a lot longer before you even used the word ‘wedding’ in a sentence, let alone decided that you wanted to start thinking about wedding planning, Cass” he quipped, his voice caught between warm and teasing.

Cassie offered him a soft look before she lightly shook her head. “I’m not saying we get married tomorrow” she murmured softly “I mean, we’ve not even talked about a date or anything like that, but I don’t think it would be the worst thing if we started to think about making a few tentative plans. You’re still set on marrying me?” she posed gently.

Sergio feigned thought for a couple of moments before he nodded his head, offering her a familiar impish smile. “You know I am, Cass” he mused “If it wasn’t for that fact that your padre would kill me for denying him the opportunity to walk his little girl down the aisle, I’d suggest we elope, but I am certain that I want to marry you and that I want to do that sooner rather than later” he enthused warmly.

Cassie smiled warmly at his words before she leant over, kissing him lightly. “Then maybe we can start to make a few plans” she mused softly as she pulled back from him.

Sergio offered her a small reassuring smile before he nodded his head, agreeing with her. He knew that it was going to take them a while, if he knew anything about Cassie it was that she was a planner and a worrier, but he was looking forwards to starting to plan their day. It was another good step in the right direction.
