Somebody Like Me

Seventy One: I’m Proud Of You

“Are you going to be able to tear yourself away from that for long enough to come to the game tonight?”

Cassie, who was quietly studying the screen of her laptop, jumped at the sound of Sergio’s voice before she lifted her head, peeking towards where he stood in the doorway, a wide amused smile perched on his face. It had been a little while, after they’d settled on a wedding date, a little over a fortnight had passed, and with Real Madrid due to play their final match of the season, Cassie had agreed to take Noah along, something she knew that Sergio was looking forwards to.

It was rare, with Noah still being very young, Cassie had tended to shy away from taking him to the football stadium too frequently, but she knew that that night meant a lot to Sergio. She knew that he’d been looking forwards to taking a lap around the pitch with Noah since he had arrived.

“What?” she posed.

“I was just checking that you were still coming tonight” Sergio mused as he took a step into the room “I mean, we’ve been awake for a while now and I don’t think you’ve been away from that laptop for more than 10 minutes. I was just making sure that you still planned on coming tonight” he added teasingly as he moved to settle down on the floor, greeting Noah with a light kiss on the head.

Cassie rolled her eyes slightly before she shook her head. “I was just looking” she quipped “I mean, I know we’re still in the early stages of planning, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to get a few ideas” she added, her voice slightly sheepish. It felt a little strange, the idea that she and Sergio were starting to plan their wedding day, but Cassie was slightly excited, even if the amount of planning did seem more than a little daunting. A small part of her couldn’t wait until their day arrived.

Sergio, who’d moved to offer Noah once of his toys, quirked a small smile at the sheepish tone of her voice before he shook his head. “I was teasing, Cass” he noted warmly “Besides, I like the idea that you want to start thinking about plans. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m pretty excited about the idea of marrying you” he added brightly.

He knew that she was a little shy, even despite the fact that they’d chosen a wedding date, Cassie still seemed a little sheepish about the idea of wedding planning, and Sergio wanted to encourage her slightly, even if they did have a few months before their day arrived. He liked the idea that she was getting excited about their wedding.

Cassie offered him a soft glance, wordlessly asking if he was sure, before she quirked a small smile, something Sergio returned before Noah let out a soft sound, crawling towards his father. Sergio marveled at the little boy’s movements before he quickly scooped him into his arms, lifting him above his head, causing Noah to squeak with laughter. “You’re still sure about wanting to come tonight, aren’t you?” he posed gently.

Cassie, who’d moved to close her laptop, offered the two of them a small smile before she nodded her head. “I’m sure” she mused “Besides, even if I did change my mind, you’d only pout about it until I changed my mind back again” she added as she stepped towards him, gently moving to take Noah out of his arms.

Sergio scoffed playfully, mumbling something about him not pouting, before he gently pushed himself back up to his feet, moving to settle an arm around Cassie’s waist. “You know, if you don’t want to come, I’m not going to make you” he mumbled, pressing a soft kiss against her cheek.

“I know that” Cassie mumbled gently “But I still want to come. I know that this is something you’ve been looking forwards to since Noah came along and I know it means a lot to you. You still want us there?” she added as she reached her hand up, gently brushing a few loose hairs off of his forehead.

Sergio nodded. “You know that I do” he mused softly.

“Then we’ll be there” Cassie noted gently before she leant forwards, pressing a soft kiss against his lips.

Sergio smiled at the contact and held onto her for a couple of seconds before he ducked back, allowing her to step out of the room as she mumbled something about getting Noah some lunch. Sergio watched after her for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, a small grin pulling at the corner of his mouth. Things were going well, for a while, things between him and Cassie had felt more than settled, and Sergio hoped to keep them that way. He more than liked the way things were working out for them.

Nibbling on the side of her lip, Cassie stared out across the pitch, her green eyes settled on Sergio who stood a little away from her, Noah babbling contently in his arms. It had been a long afternoon, with the destination of the title still to be settled, the atmosphere which had filled the stadium had been one of tension, but when the news had spread that Barcelona had only managed a draw in their match, it had quickly turned to one of celebration, something which pleased Cassie, even if she wasn’t a fan of Real Madrid. She was glad that things had panned out for Sergio who had looked more than thrilled when the trophy had been placed into his hands.

“You know, I think he’s starting to look more like Sergio as the days pass”

Cassie, who’d been happily watching Sergio with Noah, blinked a few times at the sound of Cristiano’s voice before she turned around, offering him a small smile. “He is” she confirmed gently “I mean, when he first arrived, he looked more like me, but as the months have passed he’s grown to look a lot more like his papa, something Sergio never shuts up about” she teased softly.

“I bet he doesn’t” Cristiano chuckled softly “But either way, you’ve made a pretty adorable little boy, Cassie, and that’s made our captain a lot more bearable to be around. Don’t tell him this, but since you and Noah arrived in his life, he’s actually been a lot more fun” he added, his voice caught between kind and teasing. It was obvious, since Cassie and Noah had arrived in Sergio’s life, the defender had been a lot brighter, and Cristiano wanted Cassie to know it, even if he didn’t want to get involved in something which was between Cassie and Sergio. He wanted her to know that she had had an impact on the defender.

Cassie’s cheeks warmed a little at the compliment before she gently pushed herself up onto her toes, wrapping the tall Portuguese man in a soft hug. Cristiano startled, not expecting the overt display of affection, but he was quick to wrap his arms around her, hugging her close for a couple of seconds before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached them, causing him to lift his head, offering a small amused smirk towards Sergio who stood behind Cassie, a familiar jealous frown on his face. “You have nothing to be worried about, Captain” he quipped impishly “It’s just a friendly hug, I promise” he added, waving his hands defensively.

Sergio offered the forward a small glance, something which made Cristiano laugh before he ducked away, allowing Sergio to step closer to Cassie who rolled her eyes, a small grin on her face. “You’re all jealous because I hugged your teammate?” she posed, gently moving to lift Noah in her arms.

Sergio shrugged slightly. “You don’t tend to hug them, Cass” he countered.

Cassie rolled her eyes playfully before she shook her head, moving to settle her spare arm around his neck before she gently leant into him, pressing a brief kiss against his lips. “You’re an idiot” she mumbled softly.

Sergio shrugged. “Maybe I am” he quipped “But you know that you love it really. It’s part of my charm” he added, a boyish grin on his face.

Cassie shook her head lightly before she ducked into him once more, pressing another quick kiss against his lips. “Congrats on the title” she mumbled softly “I mean, I could have done without it going to the final day, but…” she trailed off playfully.

Sergio snorted. “You don’t even support Real Madrid” he pointed out “Aren’t you a Manchester United fan?” he posed.

Cassie shrugged. “Perhaps I am” she mused “But I am sort of pleased that Madrid won. I kind of like their captain” she added, offering Sergio a small playful smile that he was quick to return before he leant into her once more, stealing a slightly longer kiss before he pulled away from her, lightly brushing the dark hair off of her cheeks.

Cassie’s cheeks tinted a soft shade of pink at the light feel of his fingers before she shook her head. “On a serious note, I’m pretty proud of you” she mused softly “I mean, it’s been a long season, and a pretty close one, but I am happy that you won. I know it means a lot to you” she added warmly.

Sergio offered her another light grin before he carefully took a hold of her hand, allowing him to press a light kiss against the warm skin as he mumbled a soft thank you, wordlessly glad that she and Noah had been there.
