Somebody Like Me

Seventy Two: You’ve Got To Get Going

“Are you sure that you’ve packed enough of everything?”

Sergio, who’d been folding another shirt into the suitcase which sat on the bed, rolled his eyes slightly at the sound of Cassie’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a slightly sarcastic look. “You know, before you came into my life, I had packed a suitcase before” he noted “I think I’m probably capable of doing this all by myself” he added in a tone which made it clear that he was joking.

He knew that she was a little nervous, with Spain due to head to the world cup, Sergio was going to be gone for a few weeks, and he knew that it was something which unsettled Cassie slightly, even if she wouldn’t admit it. He knew that her fussing was a sign that she was likely to miss him whilst he was gone.

Cassie, who was stood in the doorway, rolled her eyes slightly before she shook her head. “I was just making sure” she noted softly “The last thing I want is for you to get all of the way there only to find out that you left something before” she added, gently folding her arms over her chest.

Sergio, who’d moved to place another couple of shirts into the suitcase, smiled softly at the nervousness in her voice before he shook his head, his dark eyes peeking towards where she stood in the doorway. “I think I’ve got it under control” he noted “I mean, I’ve put everything in here that I normally do and I’ve packed it for month. I think it’s alright, but you can feel free to check if you want” he added gently before he pushed himself up to his feet, padding a little closer to her.

Cassie pondered his request for a brief second before she shook her head, something which made Sergio smile gently before he took another pace towards her, his hand gently resting against her hip. “You know that it’s only going to be a few weeks right?” he posed gently, his dark eyes mirroring her greens.

Cassie nodded her head. “I know that” she confirmed softly “I’m just being a little silly” she added with a small shy laugh.

Sergio shook his head before he leant towards her, pressing a soft kiss against her cheek. “You’re not being silly” he mused softly, pressing another light kiss against her skin “If anything, I kind of like the idea that you’re going to miss me, but I promise you, it will fly past and I’ll be back here and annoying you before you know it” he added, gently brushing a few loose hairs off of her face, tucking them gently behind her ear.

Cassie let out a soft laugh before she shook her head, her cheeks tinting a soft shade of pink. “You’re not that annoying” she teased softly.

Sergio spared a small laugh before he ducked into her, pressing another light kiss against her cheek. “It’s only a few weeks, Cass” he mused softly “And besides, between Noah and wedding planning, I’m sure that you’ll not even notice that I am not around” he added, flashing her another boyish smile.

Cassie admired his smile briefly before she nodded her head. “You’re probably right” she mused softly.

Sergio offered her another brief smile before he leant into her, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. “I know I am right” he mused gently “And besides, it’s not like we won’t talk. I’ve already decided that I am going to call you at least once a day, maybe even a few more” he teased softly.

Cassie lifted an eyebrow. “Only twice?” she posed “I was expecting more” she added with a small teasing grin.

Sergio rolled his eyes before he gently shifted his hand, knotting their fingers together. “Come on” he mused softly “I’ve still got a little while before I have to leave for the airport and I figured that we could have some lunch before I finish packing” he added gently, his thumb lightly brushing over the back of her hand.

Cassie watched the small movements of his thumb for a moment before she flashed him a small smile, something which caused Sergio to lift her hand up, allowing him to press a soft kiss against the warm skin, something which caused Cassie to shake her head softly. She knew that it was a little silly, Sergio was only going to be gone for a matter of weeks, but she knew that she was going to miss having him around, even if it was only to be for a short period of time. She had grown used to him being around all of the time.

“You’ll give me a call once you’ve landed right?”

Sergio, who’d been quietly fussing over Noah, quirked a small smile at the sound of Cassie’s question before he nodded his head. “Of course I will, Cass” he mused “I know you’d only worry otherwise” he added, his voice bright and teasing. It had been a quiet afternoon, with a little while before his flight, Sergio had set about making the most of the time he had before he left, and he had to admit that he enjoyed it, even if Cassie had seemed a little quiet, he had enjoyed the opportunity to spend a quiet morning with her and Noah.

Cassie, who’d moved to sit down on the couch beside him, shook her head, something which made Sergio smirk. “How did you think you were going to cope being away from me for 6 months?” he quipped teasingly “I mean, I’m going away for a month, and you’ve been quiet and grumpy all morning. How were you going to make it through 6 months in Paris?” he added, offering her a boyish smile.

Cassie offered him a small look before she shrugged her shoulders, something which made Sergio chuckle softly before he gently leant towards her, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. Cassie stilled, not expecting the soft kiss, but she quickly melted into it, something which made Sergio’s smile widen a fraction before he gently leant back, his thumb lightly brushing over her cheekbone. “You know that I am going to miss you too, right?” he posed gently “Both of you” he added, sparing a look towards Noah who sat in his arms, grinning up at his mother and father.

Cassie nodded. “Of course I do” she mused gently “And whilst I’ll miss you while you’re not around, I do hope things go well for you at the tournament, even if it does mean that you’ll be gone for a little longer. I know that you want to do a lot better than the team did at the last world cup or at the Euros” she added as she moved to rest her head against his shoulder.

Sergio smiled a little at her words before he pressed a light kiss against her head, his dark eyes moving to check his watch. “I have to get moving, nena” he noted softly.

Cassie, who’d been contently enjoying their embrace, nodded her head gently before she sat up, moving to lift Noah into her arms. “Good luck, Sergio” she mused softly “I mean, I already know that you’ll be great, but still, I hope it goes well for you” she babbled softly.

Sergio smiled a little at her words before he gently leant over towards her, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of Noah’s head. “You’ll be good for your mama, won’t you?” he posed as he smoothed out the little boy’s dark hair “I don’t want your mama skipping out on my calls because someone’s decided to have a fussy day” he added, tickling Noah’s side. Noah let out a small giggle before he smiled up at his father, causing Sergio to press another kiss against his head, mumbling quietly about being home soon.

Cassie watched the two of them interact for a second before she gently nudged Sergio’s shoulder. “You’ve got to get going, Sese” she mused gently.

Sergio blinked a couple of times before he nodded his head, quickly gathering himself up to his feet. “I’ll call you, Cass” he mused as he moved to lift his carry-on onto his shoulder.

Cassie, who’d moved to settle Noah down beside his toys, nodded her head gently. “I know that you will” she mused “And I know you’ll be back here before I know it. I’ll see you in a few weeks?” she posed lightly.

Sergio nodded his head gently before he took a couple of steps towards her, wrapping her in a tight hug for a few seconds before carefully leant back, pressing his lips to hers. Cassie startled, slightly surprised by the strength of the kiss, before she gently leant back, nudging him slightly. “You really do have to go” she quipped, her voice light and teasing “I don’t think they’re going to hold the flight just because you’re being all sentimental” she added, poking his side slightly

Sergio spared a light laugh before nodded his head. “I’ll see you in a few weeks” he mused gently before he moved to duck out of the room.

Cassie watched him for a moment, a small lump in her throat, before she shook her head, knowing that it wouldn’t be too long before he came home.
