Somebody Like Me

Seventy Nine: You Asked How I Feel

Gently brushing her fingers through her hair, Cassie allowed a soft sigh to fall out of her mouth, trying to soothe the slightly nauseous sensation which had washed over her. It wasn’t the first one, for a little while, the small bouts of nausea had become a common part of her routine, but still she was hopeful that they’d fade away, even if she had a feeling about what was causing them, she was hopeful that it would pass quickly.

It had been a few weeks, after Spain had been knocked out of the World Cup, Cassie and Sergio had taken a small holiday before they’d returned back to Madrid, and whilst things were happy and settled between the two of them, Cassie was slightly apprehensive about mentioning her nausea to him, not quite sure of how he’d react to the news.

Things were good between them, with wedding planning underway, things felt comfortable and settled, and Cassie didn’t quite know how Sergio would react to the idea of a second pregnancy, even if he had briefly mentioned wanting to give Noah a younger sibling. She didn’t quite know how he’d feel about the idea of her second pregnancy following so soon after her first.

Allowing another sigh to fall out of her mouth, she gingerly pushed herself back up to her feet before she padded towards the sink, splashing a little cold water over her face before she moved to collect her toothbrush.

“Cassie?”

Cassie, who’d been quietly brushing her teeth, startled a little at the sound of a knock at the bathroom door before she stepped towards it, pulling it open to Sergio who stood on the other side. “You alright?” he posed “I mean, you’ve been up here for a while and I figured I’d come and check on you. We were waiting on you to come downstairs before we started to open Noah’s presents” he added softly, a small smile on his face.

Cassie admired his smile for a second before she gently shook her head. “I was just finishing up in here” she mused “I should be down in a second. I’d hate to keep the birthday boy waiting” she added, offering him a small smile.

Sergio offered her a slightly dubious look, noting that the smile on her face was a little forced, before he nodded his head. “He’s pretty excited” he quipped, opting to not comment on her false smile “I mean, I doubt that he knows what’s going on, but he seems to be in a good mood” he added brightly. It felt a little odd, the idea that Noah was a year old was one which felt slightly surreal to the defender, but he had to admit that he was more than happy with how the year had gone since Noah had arrived, even if he and Cassie had hit a few minor bumps along the way. He liked the way that things had worked out between the two of them since Noah had arrived.

“Can you quite believe that our son is a year old?” Cassie posed as she stepped back into the bathroom slightly, moving wipe her mouth.

Sergio, who’d stepped a little further into the room, smiled a little at her question before he shook his head, his arms gently moving to settle around her waist. “I can’t” he mused softly “But he is. Our little boy is a whole year old” he added, pressing a light kiss against her shoulder.

Cassie smiled a little at the feel of his lips against her shoulder before she leant into him slightly, enjoying the soft embrace for a few seconds before the sound of Noah’s voice emanated away from the monitor which sat in Sergio’s pocket, causing her to duck away from him slightly. “We should probably go and get him” she mused softly.

Sergio nodded his head lightly before he ducked down, pressing another light kiss against her shoulder before he stepped away from her, stepping out of the bathroom. Cassie watched after him for a moment before she quietly shook her head, her stomach giving another soft flip, something which caused her to sigh gently before she followed Sergio out of the room, hoping that she could make it through the day without needing to throw up again.

“What are you doing, Noah?” Sergio mused as he sat down beside the little boy, watching as he messed around with the toy which sat on the floor ahead of him. It had been a quiet day, with Noah’s 1st birthday having fallen on a match day, Sergio and Cassie had agreed to keep things quiet, but still the defender had enjoyed himself, even if it had just been him, Cassie and Noah. He’d enjoyed the opportunity to make a fuss of the little boy.

Noah, who’d been contently playing, looked up at the sound of his father’s voice before he offered him a bright grin, something which made Sergio chuckle lightly before he ducked down, pressing a kiss against the top of the little boy’s head. “You’re adorable, you know that?” he fussed quietly as he carefully lifted the little boy into his lap.

Noah fussed for a second, not liking being taken away from his toys, but he settled down quickly, something which made Sergio smile before he leant forwards, pressing another soft kiss to the top of his head. “I can’t quite believe that you’re one, Noah” he fussed quietly “I mean, it still seems like yesterday that we were sat in the delivery room waiting for you to come along and now look at you. I love you, Noah, so much, and I’m so happy that you came along, even if you did catch me and your mama off guard, we’re both so happy that you came along” he added, gently smoothing out the dark hair on the top of Noah’s head.

“Have I ever mentioned how sweet you two are together?”

Sergio, who’d been quietly cooing to Noah, looked up at the sound of Cassie’s voice before he flashed her a small smile. “That’s where you got to” he quipped playfully as he watched her step into the living room “I was starting to think you were avoiding us” he added, offering her the spot on the floor beside him.

Cassie, who’d moved to sit beside him, shook her head. “I’m not avoiding you” she mused softly “I was making sure that his cake didn’t burn and then arranging with my padre and your madre when they could call to wish him happy birthday. One of us has to be the organized one” she added, lightly poking his side gently.

Sergio spared a small laugh before he shook his head. “You’ve been quiet all day, Cass” he noted softly “And I know you think I’ve not noticed it, but I have. I just didn’t want to start a fight on Noah’s big day. So, you can either tell me about it now, or you can pretend it’s nothing and we’ll fight about it tomorrow” he added, not shifting his dark eyes away from Noah who babbled happily in his lap.

Cassie blinked a couple of times, slightly surprised by his words, before she quietly shook her head. “Sergio…”

“I know you too well to believe that it’s nothing, nena” Sergio interrupted softly “You’re quiet, and distracted, and I’d like to know why” he added, peeking towards her gently.

Cassie scanned his face, not missing the soft expression he wore, before she lightly shook her head. “I’ve been feeling nauseous” she murmured softly “I mean, it’s only been a few times, but it…it feels a lot like it did when…”

“You were pregnant with Noah” Sergio finished for her, the tone of his voice a little difficult to place.

Cassie blinked a couple of times, slightly surprised by the interruption, before she quietly nodded her head.

“You think…you think it’s a possibility?” Sergio posed, breaking the quiet which had settled around the two of them.

Cassie shrugged. “We’re not always the most careful” she noted gently “And that means that it’s not impossible. How do you feel about that?” she posed tentatively, her green eyes peeking towards him gently.

Sergio paused for a second, briefly mulling over her question, before he shook his head, a small awed laugh falling out of his mouth. “You think we’re going to have another baby?” he repeated gently.

“I think it’s a possibility” Cassie reiterated softly “I mean, I’ve not even done a test yet, let alone visited a doctor, but, as I said, it feels like it did when I was first pregnant with this little one” she mused, her finger lightly brushing against Noah’s cheek, causing him to look up at her, a bright grin on his face.

Sergio watched their interaction for a brief moment before he carefully leant forwards, pressing a soft kiss against Cassie’s lips. Cassie startled, not expecting the soft kiss, before she pulled back, offering him a slightly puzzled look. “What was that for?” she squeaked softly.

Sergio chuckled. “You asked how I feel” he quipped “That’s how I feel” he added impishly.

Cassie tilted her head, something which caused Sergio to let out a laugh. “You really don’t need to look so confused, Cass” he quipped “You asked how I felt about the prospect of you being…you know, again, and I showed you. If you are…you know, then I’d be more than happy, nena” he added, offering her a bright smile. It had caught him off guard, the idea that she thought that there was a chance that she was pregnant again had caught him more than a little off guard, but he wanted her to know that it was something he wanted, even if they’d not talked about it. He wanted her to know that he was excited.

Cassie offered him another soft look, wordlessly asking if she was sure, before she quietly shook her head, something which caused Sergio to wrap his arm around her waist, pulling her into a soft hug. Squeezing her waist lightly, he pressed a light kiss against her head, wordlessly assuring her that they’d figure things out.
