Somebody Like Me

Eighty One: Is That What I Think It Is?

Gently pulling her shirt down over her body, Cassie spared a soft glance towards the mirror, her green eyes settling on her stomach, a light smile pulling at the corner of her mouth. It had been a couple of days, after they’d discovered that she was pregnant, a few days had passed, but still the idea seemed a little surreal to Cassie, even if she was thrilled by the notion that she was expecting a second baby, she was more than slightly surprised that it had happened so soon after Noah.

Studying her reflection for a couple of seconds, she gently brushed her hand over her stomach before she quietly shook her head, moving to pull her shirt down over her stomach.

“You know, I’m already sort of counting down the days until you’ve got a bump again. I’ve missed it”

Cassie, who’d moved to fix her hair, smiled a little at the sound of Sergio’s voice before she shook her head, moving to peek him via the mirror. “I’ve not missed needing to throw up every morning” she mused, offering him a playful smile.

Sergio, who’d stepped a little further into the room, offered her a small sympathetic look before he took a pace towards her, his arms settling around her waist. “You’re not feeling well?” he posed softly, pressing a soft kiss against her shoulder.

Cassie shrugged gently. “I’ve felt better” she mumbled softly “I mean, it’s not too bad right now, but I’ve definitely not missed morning sickness. It’s no fun” she added, leaning into him slightly as she closed her eyes, trying to swallow the small wave of nausea which had washed over her.

Sergio smiled a little at the soft embrace before he carefully ducked down, pressing a soft kiss against the top of her head. “You know, I kind of need to get moving” he murmured softly, not wanting to disturb the quiet which had settled around them “I’ve got to get to training, but Mia is downstairs. She said something about you two going to visit a caterer this morning?” he posed, pressing another light kiss against the top of her head.

Cassie nodded her head. “She got me an appointment with the caterer who handled her wedding” she mused softly “But I should be done by early this afternoon. You’re going to meet me at the hospital?” she posed softly, her hand gently moving to take a hold of his.

Sergio messed around with her fingers for a couple of seconds before he lifted her hand up, allowing him to press a soft kiss against her warm skin. “Of course I am” he mused gently “I’m not about to skip out on our first chance to see our new little peanut” he added, his voice warm and bright. It felt a little odd, the idea that Cassie was pregnant was one which was going to take a little getting used to, but he was happy, even if it was soon after Noah had arrived. He adored the idea that their little family was going to get bigger.

Cassie smiled a little at the warmth in his voice before she carefully tilted her head, pressing a soft kiss against his lips before she gently moved to pull away from him. “I’ll see you there” she mused gently before she ducked out of the room. Sergio watched after her for a couple of seconds, a grin playing on his lips, before he shook his head slightly, still more a little in awe of the idea that their little family was only a few months away from getting a new addition.

“You’ve not got Noah with you?”

Cassie, who was quietly perusing the messages on her phone, lifted her head at the sound of Sergio’s voice before she shook her head gently. “I asked Mia to keep an eye on him for a little while” she mused gently “I mean, she was a little suspicious about me asking her to baby sit on such short notice, but I think I convinced her that I just wanted to surprise you for lunch” she added, offering him the seat beside her.

Sergio, who’d moved to sit down, nodded his head. “How was the caterer?” he posed gently, moving to take a hold of her hand.

“I was pretty impressed” Cassie mused “I mean, a couple of the smells made me feel slightly nauseous, but all in all, I was pretty impressed with what they’d put together. You should come with me next time” she added softly.

“I’d like that” Sergio mused gently, his fingers messing happily with hers.

Cassie watched the small movement of his fingers before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached her ears, causing her to lift her head, her green eyes settling on Elsa who stood ahead of them, a welcoming grin on her face. “Cassie, Sergio, it’s so nice to see you again” she greeted gently.

“It’s good to see you too, Elsa” Sergio replied softly, shaking the midwife’s hand “We’re glad that you could fit us in” he added warmly.

Elsa flashed the couple a soft smile, shaking her head lightly, before she gently gestured over her shoulder. “You two ready to get started?” she posed softly.

Cassie offered her a slightly shy smile, something which caused Sergio to squeeze her hand gently, wordlessly assuring her that she didn’t have anything to worry about. Cassie offered him a soft glance before she moved to follow after Elsa, quickly moving to take a seat on the examination bed which was set up in the corner of the small room.

“So” Elsa mused “You two are here for your first scan, right?” she posed, briefly perusing Cassie’s notes.

“We are” Cassie confirmed softly, her hand protectively brushing over the front of her sweater.

Elsa smiled a little at the small action before she stepped towards Cassie, gently brushing her sweater up slightly to reveal her stomach. “How far along do you think you might be?” she posed gently.

“A couple of months at the most” Cassie replied softly before she flinched, not quiet expecting the cool sensation on her stomach.

Sergio, who stood in the doorway, chuckled a little at the small frown on her face before he gently stepped towards her, taking a hold of her hand. Cassie jumped, not expecting the sudden contact, before she squeezed his hand softly, something which made Sergio shake his head. “You’re fine” he mused softly, pressing a soft kiss to her head.

Elsa offered the couple a light smile before she gently moved to run the scanner over Cassie’s stomach. Moving the scanner around a little, she watched the screen closely before she lifted her head, causing Sergio to look up, his dark eyes widening a little at the image which filled the screen at her side. “Is that…?” he breathed softly.

“It is” Elsa confirmed softly, knowing precisely what he was referring to “Those are your twins” she added gently.

Cassie, who’d been quietly fiddling with her sweater, lifted her head. “What?” she spluttered.

Elsa smiled softly before she stepped towards the screen, tracing her finger along the image. “This is one baby” she mused softly “And this, this is the other one. You two are expecting twins” she added, tracing another outline on the screen.

Cassie watched the movements of her finger before she blinked a couple of times, something which made Elsa smile gently. “I’d estimate that you’re about 6 weeks gone, Cassie” she mused softly “But obviously, I’ll be able to be a little more specific at your next scan. Do you want me to collect you a copy of the scan?” she posed gently.

Sergio, who was still trying to process her words, blinked a couple of times before he nodded. “That’d be great” he breathed softly.

Elsa nodded her head gently before she excused herself from the room, something which caused Sergio to let out a small breath, his dark eyes settling on Cassie who sat on the bed quietly, her fingers pulling at her sweater nervously. Watching her for a few seconds, he allowed Elsa’s words to whir around his mind for a moment longer, before he shook his head, his dark eyes returning to the screen. “Twins” he breathed softly “You…me…twins” he babbled softly.

Cassie, who’d been messing with her sweater, blinked a couple of times at the sound of his voice, before she quietly nodded her head. “Twins” she repeated softly, following the line of his stare towards the screen.

Sergio allowed the word to hang around them for a second before he stepped towards her, quickly pulling her into a kiss. Cassie startled, not expecting the warm kiss, but she quickly responded to it, something which caused Sergio to grin slightly before he ducked back, brushing the dark hair off of her face. “We’re going to have twins, Cass” he murmured softly “Two new little ones” he added, his hand moving to rest against her stomach.

Cassie peeked down at his hand before she quirked a small smile, something which caused Sergio to lean into her once more, pressing another kiss against her lips. Cassie giggled a little at the contact before she wrapped her arms around him, her mind still whirring with the idea that they were expecting two babies.
