Somebody Like Me

Allowing a soft yawn to fall out of his mouth, Sergio rested his head against the coach window, his dark eyes settled on his phone which sat in his hand. It had been a long day, between the match that he had played and dinner with his mother and father, he’d barely had a second to relax, and he was pleased that they’d arrived back in Madrid, even if it would be a little while before they reached the training ground, he was pleased that they were almost home.

Yawning once more, he scanned a few of his texts before he flicked over to a picture that Cassie had sent to him, something which caused him to quirk a soft smile. It was a cute picture, Cassie had taken a shot of Noah asleep against her bump, and Sergio couldn’t stifle his smile, even if he knew that it was likely to draw a little attention towards him, he couldn’t will himself not to smile at the sweet picture.

“You know, I think that that is the happiest you’ve looked all day”

Sergio, who’d been sending a quick text to Cassie, lifted his head a little at the sound of Cristiano’s voice before he shook his head, a small smile on face. “I don’t think that that is true” he quipped “I mean, I was pretty happy earlier after we got three more points” he added, moving to shift his bag onto the floor.

Cristiano, who’d moved to take the seat beside the defender, shrugged playfully. “You were alright for a few minutes” he mused teasingly.

Sergio rolled his eyes softly before he shook his head. “I’m just looking forwards to getting home” he mused softly “I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love away games, but today has been a pretty long day and I can’t wait to get back home. I’m very much looking forwards the opportunity to fall asleep” he added softly.

Cristiano nodded his head gently in agreement before the sound of Sergio’s phone buzzing reached his ears, something which caused him to shake his head, a small grin appearing on his face. “Cassie?” he posed gently.

Sergio, who’d been typing a response to the text, nodded his head. “She’s trying to figure out a seating plan for our wedding” he mused gently “And she was just asking if I knew about anyone that I’d invited having a problem with anyone” he added, not shifting his eyes away from the screen.

Cristiano watched him for a couple of seconds, not missing the slight smile which had appeared on the defender’s face, before he shook his head, carefully nudging the defender’s ribs. It was a common thing, whenever Cassie texted or called, Sergio’s face tended to light up with a small smile, and Cristiano had to admit that he found it sweet, even if it wasn’t a new trait. He liked the idea that Sergio still smiled whenever he spoke to his girlfriend. “How is the wedding planning coming, Sergio?” he posed gently.

Sergio tilted his head, slightly surprised by the question, before he shook his head. “It’s getting there” he mused softly “I mean, most of the big things are settled, but there are a few things that we’ve yet to sort out. It’s coming along, and Cassie seems happy with the way things are working out, but I am sure that I’ll feel a lot better when it’s over and done with” he added gently.

“Over and done with?” Gareth, who was sitting in the seat ahead of them, posed.

Sergio shook his head. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forwards to it” he clarified softly “I mean, since I proposed to her, I’ve been looking forwards to the day that we actually get married, but it’s a lot of work and a small part of me is looking forwards to it being out of the way. I just want things to be as good as Cassie is hoping for” he added gently. He knew that it wasn’t a big deal, Cassie had insisted more than once that she didn’t care if things went a little awry, but still it played on Sergio’s mind. He merely wanted to give Cassie a day that she could look back on and smile about.

Gareth and Cristiano shared a brief look before the Welshman shook his head. “You know, she’s pretty crazy about you” he mused gently “I’m sure that she won’t care if things do go a little wrong, just as long as she still ends up with you” he added, his voice warm and encouraging.

“I do know that” Sergio agreed softly “But I still want things to work out. If I have my way, she’s only going to get one shot at this, and I kind of want it to go as well as it can. I mean, with the pregnancy and everything, our plans have already changed slightly…”

“Pregnancy?” Cristiano interrupted loudly “Cassie’s pregnant?” he added, his voice slightly surprised.

Sergio blinked a couple of times, surprised by the interruption, before he shook his head, a slightly sheepish expression on his face.

Gareth admired the expression on the defender’s face before he shook his head. “She is” he quipped “You got her pregnant again?” he added brightly.

Sergio paused for a moment, briefly contemplating denying it, before he nodded his head, his dark eyes scanning the members of the team which had turned to look at him as soon as the words ‘Cassie’s pregnant’ had fallen out of Cristiano’s mouth. “I did” he confirmed “She’s just about 12 weeks pregnant with our twins, but I wasn’t supposed to let you all know that yet, so if you could…” he trailed off gently, a slightly boyish grin on his face.

The group around him nodded their heads before a small round of applause started up, something which made the defender shake his head, a soft smile appearing on his face.

“You two don’t hang around much, do you?” Cristiano quipped, nudging the defender slightly.

Sergio spared a small laugh before he shook his head. “I guess not” he mused “But things seem to be working pretty well. I think I might be onto something pretty good” he added, a playful grin on his face.

Cristiano let out a small laugh before he nodded his head. “You are” he mused gently “I mean, she arrived pretty suddenly into your life, but she’s made you pretty happy. Sergio, and that’s the important thing. Just keep doing whatever it is you’re doing, because it clearly works for the pair of you” he added warmly before he pushed himself up out of his seat, mumbling something about calling home.

Sergio watched after him for a brief moment before he quietly flicked his attention down towards his phone, quietly musing about how well things seemed to have worked out for him and Cassie.
