Somebody Like Me

Ninety One: He Just Wanted To Talk

Pushing a hand back through his hair, Sergio spared a small sigh, his head resting back against the wall which sat behind him as he closed his eyes. It had been a long day, with his nerves and excitement, the day had felt a lot longer than he was expecting it would, and he was grateful for a couple of seconds to himself, even if he knew that it was only a matter of time before someone stumbled across him. He was glad of a couple of seconds of quiet.

Brushing his hair out of his face, he enjoyed the quiet which existed around him for a couple of moments before he let out another small smile, his lips curving into a light smile. It felt a little surreal, the idea that he and Cassie were married was one which was going to take some time to get used to, but he couldn’t stop smiling about it, even if it did still feel slightly unfamiliar. He was more than slightly in awe of how far they’d come.

Shaking his head slightly, he moved to loosen the tie which still sat around his neck before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached him, causing him to lift his head, smiling a little at the sight of Alonso who stood ahead of him, Noah balanced on his hip. “I’m not intruding, am I?” the older man posed softly.

Sergio shook his head. “Of course not” he mused softly “I was just taking a few seconds. What are you both doing out here?” he posed as he pushed himself up to his feet.

“Cassie’s preoccupied with a couple of your friends and so I thought I would bring Noah out to check on his papa” Alonso explained softly “But, if you were keen to take a little more time, I can head back inside” he offered gently, not wanting to intrude on the younger man’s moment.

Sergio quirked a small smile. “It’s fine” he mused gently “Besides, I’ve not seen too much of him all day. Has he been alright?” he added, gently moving to lift Noah into his arms.

Alonso nodded his head softly. “He’s been very good” he enthused softly “I mean, he got a little fussy as the day went on, but I think that he’s coped pretty well” he added warmly.

Sergio offered him a soft look, wordlessly asking if he was sure, before he offered the older man a small smile, moving to fuss over Noah who’d moved to rest his head against his father’s shoulder, a small yawn falling out of his mouth. Quirking a small smile, Sergio pressed a light kiss against the top of the little boy’s head before he mumbled to him softly, cooing over how well he had coped all day.

Alonso watched the two of them for a couple of seconds before he quietly shook his head, a warm smile on his face. “You know, I don’t think you’ve stopped smiling yet” he mused gently.

Sergio, who’d been quietly fussing over Noah, startled a little at the sound of his father-in-law’s voice before he lifted his head, flashing him an impish grin. “It’s been a pretty wonderful day” he mused gently “I mean, I thought that it would be, but it’s been pretty spectacular” he added, his voice slightly shy. He knew that he had no reason to be concerned, since Cassie had introduced him to the older man, they’d gotten on well, but still he was slightly uncertain around him, even if he was sure that there was nothing to be worried about. He doubted that he would ever find himself entirely comfortable around his father-in-law.

Alonso smirked a little at the nervousness in the defender’s voice, but opted not to comment on it, instead opting to nod his head in agreement. “It has been” he agreed softly “I still can’t quite get over how beautiful Cassandra has looked all day” he added softly.

Sergio’s face lit up with another small smile before he shook his head. “She’s looked more than beautiful all day” he fussed softly, his dark eyes not shifting away from Noah who’d fallen asleep quietly in his arms.

Alonso admired the shy look on his face before he stepped forwards, lightly patting his shoulder. “You know, you’ve really got nothing to be nervous about, Sergio” he mused softly “I mean, I know that I am Cassandra’s father, but you don’t have to be shy around me. I like you, Sergio, since you’ve come into my daughter’s life, you’ve been nothing but good for her, and as long as that remains the case, then you don’t have a thing to worry about. You make my daughter happy, Sergio, happier than I’ve ever seen her and that’s all I want for her” he added, a warm fatherly smile on his face.

Sergio admired the light smile on the older man’s face before he shook his head softly. “She makes me happy too” he mused softly “I mean, we’ve had our moments, but Cassie, Noah, the twins…it makes happy, Alonso, and I am determined to keep things that way. You’re not getting rid of me” he added playfully with a small smile. He knew what Alonso was getting at, like Cassie, he had a tendency to worry, and Sergio wanted to offer him a little reassurance, even if it wasn’t the first time he’d said it. He knew that Alonso needed to hear it.

Alonso chuckled softly at the joke before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached his ears, causing him to lift his head, his dark eyes settling on Cassie who stood a little away from them, a small half-smile on her lips. “Are you two done hiding out here?” she quipped teasingly “Because, we do have a lot of guests inside and they’re asking after my husband” she added, her cheeks tinting a soft shade of pink as the word ‘husband’ fell out of her mouth.

Alonso nodded his head softly. “We were just on our way, weren’t we, Sergio?” he posed, peeking towards the defender.

Sergio nodded. “We were” he confirmed.

Cassie offered them a slightly dubious look before she shook her head, something which made Alonso chuckle softly before he stepped towards Sergio, collecting Noah before he excused himself.

Cassie watched him back into the building before she flicked her attention towards Sergio, her eyebrow lifted slightly. “What did my papa want?” she posed softly.

Sergio, who’d stepped a little closer to her, shrugged. “He just wanted to talk to me” he mused softly “It’s nothing to be worried about” he added, carefully brushing a few loose dark hairs off of her face.

Cassie tilted her head. “Are you sure about that?” she posed softly.

Sergio nodded his head. “I’m sure” he mused softly “He was just worrying about you. Clearly, worrying is a family trait” he added, offering her a small boyish smile.

Cassie rolled her eyes slightly, something which made Sergio chuckle softly before he ducked into her, stealing a soft kiss. “It’s really nothing to worry about, Cass” he mumbled between soft kisses.

Cassie offered him a slightly dubious look, wordlessly asking if he was certain, before she nodded her head, something which caused Sergio to duck forwards, kissing her forehead softly. “How much longer do you think we have to wait before we can get out of here?” he posed as he wrapped his arms around her, hugging her softly.

“I don’t know” Cassie mumbled softly “But I hope that it’s not too much longer. Our twins are really taking it out of me” she added, her head resting on his shoulder.

Sergio quirked a small smile at the mention of the twins before he shifted his hand, gently brushing it against her bump. “Come on” he mumbled, disturbing the quiet which had settled around them “Let’s go and start saying goodnight before I take you to our room. I’m sure that you didn’t sleep a lot last night and I’m sure that you’re itching to climb into bed” he added, knotting their fingers together.

Cassie offered him a small tired smile before she nodded her head, something which caused Sergio to squeeze her hand softly, wordlessly hoping that nothing burst the little bubble which had settled around them anytime soon.
