If You Love Me
Twenty Seven: Can’t I Want To Make A Fuss?
Adding the finishing touches to her makeup, Nora spared a soft glance towards the mirror which sat ahead of her, slightly impressed with her handiwork. It had been a while, after she had spent the day with Gerard’s parents, a couple of weeks had passed, and with her birthday approaching, Gerard had insisted on taking her out to dinner, wanting to make a fuss of the occasion that he would likely miss due it falling on a match day. Studying her reflection for a second, she quirked a small smile before she pushed herself up to her feet, moving to collect the dress which laid on her bed. Admiring it gently, she felt her smile widen a fraction before she gently moved to slip the dress on.
“You know, we have a reservation. Are you nearly ready to get out of here?”
Nora, who’d been trying to reach the zip on the back of her dress, startled a little at the sound of Gerard’s voice before she lifted her head, offering him a small nod. “I just need to slip on my shoes” she noted gently “But first, can you zip me up?” she posed, turning around to show him the zip on the back of her dress.
Gerard, who’d moved to collect his wallet and phone from the nightstand beside her head, nodded his head before he stepped towards her, lightly pulling the zip up her back. Tugging it upwards, he brushed her blonde hair off her neck before he leant forwards, pressing a soft kiss against the warm skin. “I like this dress” he mumbled quietly “Is it new?” he posed, pressing another soft kiss against her neck.
Nora blushed a little at the feel of his lips against her skin before she shook her head. “It’s not” she noted softly “My madre bought for me last year as a Christmas present. You really like it?” she posed, peeking at him slightly over her shoulder.
Gerard smiled, not missing the pink on her cheeks, before he nodded his head. “I think you look beautiful” he noted “And that it is a shame that I promised to take you to dinner” he added, pressing another soft kiss against her neck.
Nora’s already pink cheeks darkened slightly before she stepped away from him, moving to slip her feet into the pair of heels which stood beside the wardrobe.
Gerard watched her across the room, a small smirk on his face, before he stepped towards her, wrapping her in a soft hug. “Come on” he noted softly “We do have a reservation to keep and I’d hate to miss it” he added, pressing a soft kiss against the top of her head. Nora cuddled into him for a couple of seconds, enjoying the soft hug, before she ducked back, lifting her jacket off of the bed before she moved to wrap it around her shoulders.
Gerard offered her another light smile before he took the jacket out of her hands, helping her to wrap it around her shoulders before he guided her out of the room. It had been a while, between his schedule with Barcelona and hers at work, it had been a little while since the two of them had had the opportunity to head out on a date, and Gerard was keen to take it. They hadn’t done a lot of it, in the almost four months they had been dating, Gerard was certain that he could count on one hand the amount of dates that they had gone out for, and he wanted to make the most of it. He wanted to enjoy a night out with his girlfriend.

“So, what are you working on right now?” Gerard posed as he sipped on his mug of coffee, his blue eyes peeking towards Nora who sat opposite him, pushing the last of her dessert around her plate. It had been a good night, with Gerard having chosen one of Nora’s favourite restaurants for their dinner, the blonde had been pleasantly surprised, and she had to admit that she was pleased with romantic and intimate meal, even if she had been a little apprehensive to begin with, she had quickly eased into it and was pleased that they had done it.
“You’re really interested?” Nora posed, sipping on her glass of wine.
Gerard nodded. “I asked, didn’t I?” he quipped, a teasing smirk on his lips.
Nora rolled her eyes, offering him a playful glare, before she let out a soft giggle, something which made Gerard smile before he leant across the table, his fingers knotting with hers. “So, what are you working on?” he posed, brushing his thumb against the back of her hand.
Nora watched the soft movement of thumb for a couple of seconds before she shook her head softly. “I’m helping a couple to plan their engagement party” she mused softly “They’ve been engaged for a little while, but they’ve just welcomed the most adorable little boy into the world and they wanted to wait until after the baby to start thinking about a wedding” she added warmly, a faint smile pulling at the corner of her mouth.
Gerard marveled at the warm tone of her voice before he lifted her hand, pressing a soft kiss against the warm skin. Nora smiled a little at the small amorous action before she offered his hand a soft squeeze. “I’ve enjoyed myself tonight” she mused, breaking the soft silence which had settled over them.
“I’m glad” Gerard replied softly “I mean, I know that your birthday’s not for another few days, but I wanted to make a bit of fuss” he added, his fingers messing with hers happily. He knew that it wasn’t the biggest deal, for years, he had spent Nora’s birthday with her, but he wanted to make a bit of an effort. It was the first event that had occurred since they’d started to date and he wanted to mark it, even if it wasn’t the biggest deal, he wanted to make a little fuss.
Nora, who’d been contently watching his fingers mess with hers, smiled a little at his words before she lifted her head, her blue eyes mirroring his. “You didn’t have to do that” she noted softly.
“I know that” Gerard noted “But I wanted to. Can’t a guy just want to make a fuss of his girlfriend for her birthday?” he added impishly.
Nora offered him another playful glare before she dropped her stare, playing with his fingers quietly for a few moments. “Do you want to get out of here?” she murmured softly, her eyes not straying away from their hands.
Gerard watched their fingers for a couple of seconds before he tilted his head. “Are you suggesting what I think you are?” he posed gently. It wasn’t something that they’d talked about, with their relationship still being relatively new, neither one of them had been keen to push the other into making another step forwards, and Gerard wanted to ensure that Nora was sure, not wanting her to do something that she’d end up regretting.
Nora simply offered him a small glance, a coy smile playing at the corner of her mouth.
Gerard held her stare for a moment, his eyes searching hers, before he offered her hand a light squeeze, something which made Nora’s cheeks warm slightly. Admiring her blush, he offered her another soft look, wordlessly asking if she was sure. He knew what he wanted, for a while, he had been sure, but he wanted to ensure that she was certain. The last thing he wanted was for her to have regrets about them.
