Oh, Glory

Just Beat It

"Oh, shit!" Zac suddenly burst out. Thankfully, it was past dinner and his parents didn't hear because Josh, Zac, and I were cooped up in front of the TV watching MTV.

Josh glanced over at him. We were all sharing 'guy space' - which meant there was room for like three more people on the couch. "What?"

"Jeremy!" We were all frozen like stone on the couch and then we all bolted towards the phone at once. My fingers slipped over the numbers and I had to hang up and redial about four times. Josh kept looking around as if he was afraid the bogeyman would for some reason creep up behind him.

I put the handset on speaker phone and we all crowded around it.

"Hello?"

"JEREMY! Ohmygod, we're so sor -"

"Hey. I'm leaving."

"What?" Josh yelled into the phone. "Look, we're sorry we didn't include you on a lot of stuff lately, but we'll catch each other up!"

"Sorry...I've just got to go." Jeremy sighed into the phone. "Hayles - you'll make it someday, I know. We weren't in Factory together for nothing." And he hung up.
