Small Town Girl

*Chapter 11*

*3rd Person POV*

The rest of the day both Brent and Elizabeth kept stealing glances shyly at each other when they thought nobody was looking. Little did either of them know, they had an audience the whole time. Nobody said a word but instead sat there watching as a beautiful new love slowly bloomed before their eyes. They were all laughing and having a great time when Zach's phone began to ring. He left the room to take it and when he had returned, the look of sadness on his face was not one that was missed. "I'm sorry, Guys, but we gotta get to our next stop on the tour. We have a show in Kansas City tomorrow, and it'll take a bit to get there. "Oh my boys! You can't leave until you promise to come back and see your Mama Ava soon!" "Of course, Mama! We'll come see you as soon as possible!" Eric said and the other three nodded so fast I thought their heads might pop off. I giggled and Brent looked at me and smiled. "Elizabeth, Baby, go help the boys pack please. I wanna talk to my son-in-law." "Yes, Mama." As I left the room I gently squeezed Brent's hand and smiled. Before I knew what was happening, I was being thrown over a shoulder and hauled up the stairs. "James! Put me down you giant!" I yelled laughing. Eric, Barry, and Zach laughed and headed to Mel's room to pack their things and Jimmy and I went to pack Brent's in my room. Meanwhile, I couldn't help but wonder what Mama and Brent were talking about in the living room.

*Ava POV*

I watched my daughter and the man that has basically been my son, leave the room laughing. I also watched my new son-in-law as he watched them leave. I was relieved when I saw a smile on his handsome face. We were quiet for a couple minutes and it gave me time to think of the wonderful life I have lived and everything I'm leaving behind when the good Lord calls me home. I didn't realize I had started crying until I felt myself being pulled into Brent's arms. We didn't say anything, he just let me cry. We stayed like that for a few minutes before I pulled myself together and began to speak. "Thank you, Dear. I really needed that. But I didn't want to cry in front of Liz." "I understand." "Brent, I don't have long and I need to know my baby will be safe and loved. So I know I asked you before but how do you really feel about my daughter? don't tell me you care for her and let her fall for you if you're not serious. She's been through hell and she's gonna go through 10 x more on that fateful day when I go to sleep and don't wake up. She's going to need someone. My daughter does't open up or trust easily so it makes my heart swell to see her become so close to you and the guys as quickly as she did. Yes she does have Jimmy but he's in a band and from what I hear it's really taking off. He's going on tour soon. And I've seen the way you look at each other. Neither of you realize it yet but I'm sure she's falling for you. Now what about you?"

Brent thought long and hard about his answer. "Ava, I completely understand where you're coming from. I really don't know how exactly to describe how I feel for her yet. But I do know I feel something very strong for her.I know that you're both scared for what the future holds. Hell I'm scared for what it holds. When I went to the show in Vegas, I wasn't expecting any of this to happen. I thought it was just going to be another show. We would play it and move on to the next after our days off were done. I had very briefly gotten a glimpse of her and Jimmy but didn't get to talk to her like I wanted until we saw them at that bar. I saw that asshole hit her and I came unglued. I wanted to tear him apart. My heart jolted in my chest. I felt like no matter what happened, I wanted, no needed to protect her for as long as I could. Imagine my surprise when I woke up next to her with a wedding band on." We both chuckled. "I know I haven't known Elizabeth very long but I think I'm starting to fall for her too. I too don't open up easily. Every time I have in the past I've ended up hurt. i promise you no matter what happens I'll never put her through the crap I've been through. I'll be there for her until she tells me to leave." I sighed in relief as I listened to him speak. "Okay, good. Now that that is out of the way, let's go see if they have you guys ready to go." He helped me stand and walk up the steps.
