Whatever the clock said, it was irrelevant. He had been in the waiting room forever. He had almost started pacing, feeling like he couldn’t sit still. But he couldn’t. He was absolutely drained of energy.

Every time he saw movement near the doors leading back there, he tensed. He braced himself for whatever news they were going to bring him. No one had come to talk to him yet, though.

He didn't know if he should be worried or thankful for that. All he knew was that he didn't like it, not hearing anything either way, just being left to wonder if she’d be okay.
