Love on the Brain

Beach party

The sky had turned peachy, meanwhile the sun started to climb down from the sky, causing the ocean to glow with a pinkish colour. The brunette soon stepped out of her sandals and picked them up, meanwhile she felt how her feet sunk into the sand that buried itself between her bare toes.

“I love you so much! I knew you would come!” Michelle couldn’t resist the huge grin that covered her lips, as she went to hug her friend for the third time within the last hour.

“Okay, ‘Chelle! I get it! I’m the best person in the world!” Jade squealed, as the brunette freed herself from her grip.

Michelle blushed lightly, while she pulled away from her friend, and kept walking towards the little group of people that had gathered around a bonfire in the middle of the almost empty beach. The blonde girl was dressed in a pair of denim shorts and a black tank top, which hid her dark purple bikini. She had her converse resting in her hand, and a tote bag stuffed with food and beer around her shoulder.

Jade, on the other hand, had decided to leave her tote bag at home, and was dressed in a denim skirt and an oversized t-shirt. In her hand she was holding unto a bag of fruit, and it surprised no one that she came without booze.

“Jade! ‘Chelle!” Val’s face brightened up as she saw the two girls.

The raven-haired girl had already visited the cool water, as she was now sitting on a towel with Matt’s hoodie draped over her bare shoulders. Her black hair had been tied up into a loose bun at the back of her head, and she had her fingers hooked around a cold beer.

“There you are!” Michelle called to her sister, before pressing her lips against her cheek. “Where are the guys?” she asked, glancing around the beach, as Valary had been sitting all by herself in front of the bonfire.

Just as Val was about to answer, the sound of Jimmy’s shrieking voice reached the three girls, as the slender drummer started running towards the bonfire, chasing Zacky, who had recently emerged from the water and was now trying to escape his friend.

Jade followed closely as Jimmy all but tackled his friend into the sand and them climbed on top of his guitarist. A wicked grin decorated his feisty face, meanwhile Zacky tried to wrestle his way out of Jimmy’s grip.

“I guess that’s your answer,” Val said, meanwhile Michelle shook her head at the boys.

“Hi, girls!” Matt smiled, his dimples brightening up his entire face, as he dumped ten cans of cold beer close to Val’s pile of food.

“Hi, Matt,” Michelle smiled, watching as the guy went to peck her twin sister’s lips.

“Babe, where’s Johnny?” Val asked, meanwhile she handed over a beer to her sister and offered one to Jade who politely turned down the offer.

“He’ll be here in five!” Matt announced, as he plumped down next to his girlfriend and wrapped his arm around her waist.

“And Brian?” this time it was Michelle who asked.

Matt shrugged. “He told me he was gonna pick up Maddie, but that was an hour ago,” he said.

“They’re probably fucking,” Jimmy said from on top of Zacky.

“Jim,” Michelle said, rolling her eyes at the blue-eyed drummer who only shrugged back.

“Can you fuck off now?” Zacky whined from underneath Jimmy, as his cheek was still pressed against the sand.

“Short Shit!” Jimmy all but yelled, as he noticed the petite freshman, which made him get up to his feet and run towards their newest member.

“God, he’s crazy,” Valary mumbled, meanwhile Matt sniggered.

“That’s old news,” he chuckled, before he took a swig from his beer.

“True,” Val agreed, shrugging, as she too sipped from her drink.

“Shads, are we gonna throw some meet unto that grill?” Zacky asked, meanwhile he ran his hand down the side of his face, trying to brush the sand off his cheek.

“Yeah! Will you help me?” the guy had just placed a cigarette between his lips, ready to lighten up the end of it, as his raven-haired friend nodded his head.

“Come on, Jade! Let’s check out the water!” Michelle exclaimed, as she swirled her fingers around Jade’s wrist and dragged her along with her.

The brunette got to her feet in a matter of seconds, abandoning her sandals, while she followed her friend towards the waves that crushed into the shore. The cool breeze rolled over her bare arms, as she soon felt the cold water that lightly brushed over her bare feet.

“Gosh, it’s so cold,” Jade whined, meanwhile Michelle dragged her further out.

“Don’t be such a pussy! Come on,” the other girl insisted, as she seemed to enjoy the water that was way too cold for Jade’s own liking.

“But ‘Chelle! It’s way too cold out there!” the brunette kept whining.

“And you say you’re from Cali? Girl!” Michelle mocked, meanwhile Jade stuck her tongue out.

“Ey! That was many years ago!” Jade argued.

“I thought you celebrated Christmas in Cali every year?” the blonde girl cocked her eyebrows at her friend.

“That does not involve exploring the beach!”

Michelle giggled, as she lightly splashed water unto Jade’s legs, meanwhile the brunette quickly jumped away.

“Girls! Food!” Val all but yelled at her twin and Jade, as the two of them exchanged a look in one brief moment, before they linked their arms and started stalking towards the group of people again.

“I’m a fucking beast when it comes to meat!” Matt stated happily, meanwhile he dumped a burger on top of Johnny’s plate.

“Oh, I bet you’re a beast in many other ways as well, or what, Val?” Jimmy sniggered, meanwhile he poked her ribcage with the end of his elbow.

“God, you’re gross,” Val narrowed her eyes at her friend, before she cracked open another beer.

“Are you sure you don’t want one?” Michelle asked Jade, as everyone had gathered around the fire, everyone sipping from his or her drinks.

“Positive,” Jade smiled back, and thanked her friend for offering her for the fifth time.

“Let me know if you want anything,” her friend said, as Jade nodded her head.

“Haner! You’re late as hell!” Zacky called out, as the last member had finally joined them.

“Syn! You motherfucker! Where have you been?” Jimmy blurted, waving his beer at his friend.

“There was just something I had to fix,” Brian said under his breath, looking anything but pleased as he sat down next to his drummer and waited for Zacky to throw a beer at him.

“If it starts with M and ends with E, then you can spare us the details,” Matt said on the behalf of everyone who had gathered around the fire.

“Funny,” Brian muffled back dryly, as he cracked open his beer and brought it up to his lips, savouring the taste of the cold alcohol.

“Fuckers! Let’s go swimming!” Jimmy suggested, already on his feet and swaying slightly after all the alcohol he had consumed during the last hour.

“Now? It’s cold as fuck,” Johnny said, before he finished off his beer.

“I’m not heading into the water again,” Zacky said rather sternly, avoiding the way Jimmy all but scolded at him.

“I’m joining you, Jim!” Michelle expressed enthusiastically, as she got to her feet.

“Yeah, us too!” Val said, including Matt, who threw her a quick glance, which she avoided.

“Come on, Seward!” Michelle placed her hand on his shoulder, looking at her with her huge piercing brown eyes that made it impossible to resist her request.

“Fuck, no!” Zacky all but yelled, as Jimmy decided to throw his friend over his shoulder, before he started running towards the ocean in full speed.

“I won’t take no for an answer!” the drummer yelled, his shrieking laughter following, meanwhile the others followed them towards the water, leaving Jade and Brian behind.

Jade pushed her knees up to her chest, bringing her arms around her legs, meanwhile she settled her dark eyes upon her friends that were splashing around in the cold water.

The brunette hadn’t even paid any attention on Brian, as the guy moved closer to her, dragging three beers along with him.

“Want one?” he asked, pushing the cold can towards her so that it touched her bare leg, almost making her jump, as she looked over at him.

“No, I don’t drink,” she responded sternly, before she returned her gaze to the ocean in front of her.

“No one’s gonna snitch,” Brian insured her, not moving the beer, as he took a swig from his own.

“Is that why you think I don’t drink?” Jade cocked her eyebrows at him.

“One of reasons,” he admitted, shrugging. “I mean, you are daddy’s little girl, after all,” he added.

Jade rolled her eyes. “Let’s just say that there’s a lot of things you don’t know about me,” she breathed out.

Brian sniggered. He laced both of his hands around his beer, meanwhile his dark eyes looked at his friends that were all swimming around in the water.

“Okay, tell me something about yourself then,” he requested.

The brunette glanced up at him, looking mildly confused at his request, before she pressed her rich lips together.

“I’ve attended over ten schools throughout my life, all of them in different cities,” Jade confessed, watching how it rolled over his face.

“What? Seriously? That’s crazy,” his face didn’t manage to hide his surprise, as the brunette confirmed her statement.

“I’ve moved around ever since I was born because of my parents,” she added.

“And I guess it’s not because you’re such a troubled daughter that you’ve gotten kicked out of every school?” Brian retorted jokingly, as Jade giggled at his comment.

“No, that’s not why,” she confirmed.

“Where did you live before you moved to Huntington?” Brian asked, before he brought his beer up to his lips.

“Scranton, Pennsylvania,” she said. “Cold as hell,” Jade added.

“Shit,” he exhaled.

“That’s one way of summarizing it,” she sniggered.

“But why? Like, what do your parents do for a living?” he asked, sounding genuinely interested.

“They’re scientists, that’s kinda how they met,” she confessed.

“How romantic,” Brian dropped dryly.

“Really,” Jade rolled her eyes. “They’ve moved a lot due to their work because of different offerings. Now they’re working at the local hospital,”

“Does that mean that you’re not leaving any time soon?” he voiced in an almost mocking tone, which caused Jade to throw him a nasty glare.

“Yes, it does,” she half-snapped. “They want me to finish high school here, since Oli lives here,”

“And after high-school?” Brian cocked his eyebrows.

“Yale,” she exhaled, and Brian picked up her lack of enthusiasm almost instantly.

“You don’t seem convinced,” he pointed out. “You don’t wanna persuade daddy’s plans for his little princess?” the mocking tone appeared once again.

Jade threw him another nasty glare, which he decided to avoid.

“They’re not forcing me to go to Yale,” she insisted.

“But?” his eyebrows climbed high on his forehead.

“They just want me to do it,” Jade said. “Education is really important to them, and they just don’t want me to take it for granted,”

“So they think that attending Yale is the only way of giving a crap about your future?” Brian asked, his eyebrows already knitted.

“Basically,” Jade confessed, as she sighed. “They mean it well,” she insured him.

“I bet they do, I’m just not used to that kind of parenting,” Brian admitted, as he felt her darker than chocolate brown eyes look at him for a while.

“What are your parents like?” she asked.

“Well, Matt says that I’m pretty much the younger version of my father,” Brian started, chuckling a little as he said it.

“You’re father’s a cocky jerk too?” Jade seemed surprised, as she was the one who was mocking him this time.

“Very funny,” he muttered dryly. “He’s a musician. He taught me how to play guitar when I was a little kid, and there’s never a quiet moment in the house. Or at least that’s what my mom says,”

“So, the real question,” Jade started. “Are your parents sending you off to Yale as well?” she asked jokingly, and Brian chuckled.

“No, thank God. Dad wants me to study music, and my mom don’t care as long as she doesn’t have to listen to my playing all the fucking time,” he told her.

“But you’re doing it? I mean, studying music after high school?” the brunette asked, curiosity swirling in her dark orbs, meanwhile she played with her locks.

“Well, I don’t know,” he shrugged. “It depends on what Avenged Sevenfold is doing. The others haven’t mentioned college yet,”

“God, I wish I was surrounded by that kinda people,” Jade admitted, a sigh following her sentence.

“Really?” he cocked his eyebrows, surprised to hear it from her. Brian had always considered her to be the kinda person who had been waiting for college ever since her first day in kindergarten.

“Yeah,” she confessed. “It’s not that I don’t wanna attend college. Of course I wanna get an education, but not right away. I wanna live a little and see other stuff before I chain myself to more schoolwork,”

“Then why don’t you just do it?” Brian asked, not quite understanding her situation.

“My parents would kill me if I don’t follow their paths,” Jade insured him.

“God, that must suck,” he said, taking the last swig of his beer.

“I really feel like we’re growing up way too fast now,” Jade admitted, before her dark eyes crossed his in one brief moment, as they both looked at one another.

She had never really taken in his facial features before, and as the dull moonlight hung over them, she noticed how well defined his cheekbones really were and how the eyeliner on his waterline made his eyes appear even darker.

Brian looked back at Jade, and noticed how she so carefully brushed a strain of hair and left it behind her earlobe, which instantly earned his attention as he noticed her thick golden earrings.

“Yeah, it’s crazy,” Brian agreed, as the thought of future had always scared the crap out of him.

“And you guys are determined to continue to play after high school?” Jade asked, slightly changing the topic.

“Of course,” Brian said. “We’re gonna be the biggest rockband U.S has ever seen,” he promised her, as he curved his lips into the signature smirk she had seen so many times.

“Sure thing,” Jade chuckled, as she somewhat admired the guys for being so confident.

“I’m not kidding,” Brian said, sounding dead serious. “I want you to pick up our music a couple of years from now on and brag to your friends that you got to sit next to Synyster Gates, the sexiest and best guitarist out there,”

Jade couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the way he spoke so highly of himself. The guy was beyond cocky and it was almost fascinating every time he mentioned what a gift he was to this world.

“Dream on,” she told him.

“Oh, I will,” Brian sniggered.

“Shit! You guys are talking!” Michelle interrupted, as she had just wrapped her body inside a dry towel, while glancing at her friends.

“And you said you weren’t capable of becoming friends!” Zacky mocked, looking over at Brian and Jade, who both felt like two deer caught in headlights.

“Talking doesn’t make us friends,” Brian insisted, frowning at his friends, meanwhile Matt all but rolled his eyes at him.

“Haner, you really are something,” he shook his head.

Brian smirked back, meanwhile Valary wrapped her arms around her boyfriend’s waist and brought her lips against his bare shoulder blade.

“That’s not a compliment,” Val told Brian in order to clean off the shit-eating grin that curved his lips.

“Michelle, I gotta go,” Jade said, earning Brian’s attention almost instantly, as the brunette got to her feet, her sandals in one hand and her phone in the other.

“Okay, I’ll walk you to the parking lot!” the blonde girl insisted.

“It was so much fun to hang out with you, Jade! And thanks for not choking Brian! I know it’s a difficult urge to avoid,” Val spoke, as Jade sniggered.

“Thanks for having me, guys! It was fun,” she admitted, her dark orbs once again crossing Brian’s face, who sent her what seemed like a genuine smile for the first time.
