Youngblood

Chapter 1

Lucy didn't pay a lot of attention to whatever they were being taught in maths. She was far too intrigued by the boy sat beside her. She watched him for a moment, noting that his curly hair hair - currently mostly hidden by a backwards black baseball hat - was pretty obviously not naturally yellow blonde.

"So..Billie Joe, you lived here a long time?" She asked him, not missing the twitch of his mouth as he forced down a smile
"All my life," he sighed, green eyes filled with a teenage hunger for adventure as he met her gaze. His expression changed suddenly as he had an idea "you should come sit with me and the guys at lunch," he announced, clearly a little more eager than he was letting on. Lucy nodded
"I like the sound of that Billie Joe," She smirked. He held out his hand
"Let me see your schedule," he half demanded. Handing it over, Lucy watched his face as he grimaced "you have social studies next..how does skipping sit with you?" He asked. She shook her head
"It's my first day," She answered "then again..they do say to start as you mean to go on," She added with a smirk.

Lucy followed Billie casually out of the lesson no sooner had the bell signalled it's end.
"What are your friends called?" She asked curiously as he lead her out of the school to a battered old pickup truck that was an indistinguishable colour due to its amount of rust.
"Mike and Frank," he answered "but we call Frank Tré," he added, frowning as a guy with green hair stuck his head out of the front window
"Stop flirting we've got some fuckers chasing us," he yelled. Billie grinned, grabbing Lucy's wrist and pulling her into the truck. The door was barely shut when the vehicle started moving, swerving around and almost crashing a few times. After a few sharp turns, the driver stopped and grinned
"Lost 'em," he announced proudly, running a hand through his brown hair, only for it to fall back into his eyes a few moments later. Billie grinned, green eyes gleaming with the adrenaline
"You don't say," he laughed, turning to Lucy "that's Mike, this is Tré," he explained, gesturing to each of his friends in turn. Lucy nodded, taking a moment to catch her breath

"Lucy..like the Beatles song," She introduced with a grin as they all got out of the car "anyway..what was that all about?" She asked curiously
"Some guys who live round here - I graffitied their car," Tré grinned. Lucy laughed and nodded.

They sat under a tree, still managing to get the sun rays as Mike handed everyone a beer
"Is that a tattoo?" Billie asked Lucy incredulously, she nodded with a slight grimace
"A friend did it back home, I have a few," she answered letting them see the shitty diamond tattooed on her wrist
"Why a diamond?" Mike asked curiously, she shrugged and grinned
"S'in the song I'm named after," She chuckled. Billie grinned
"You're definitely going to fit in with us," he commented. Lucy smiled and leaned back against the tree.

"What music do you guys like?" She asked curiously, glancing between the three
"The clash, Ramones, New Order is one of my favourites," Billie grinned, nodding towards her top. Lucy glanced down and grinned
"The first live show I went to was Joy Division - my brother took me when I was 6," she told them, smiling softly at the memory. The four of them fell into silence momentarily, until Lucy stood up
"Wanna listen to some music?" She asked, grabbing her bag and pulling out the portable cassette player she took from her parents before leaving for America. She set it down on the grass, then lay out all the cassettes she owned.
"Where did you get this?" Billie asked
"Nicked it from Dad before I left," She answered with a grin, pulling a laugh from her new friends. Eventually the four teens agreed on the New Order album 'Power, Corruption & Lies'.

They stayed on that little grassy patch charting and listening to music for a few hours until Mike sat up
"We have a slot in the practice rooms in an hour," he told his friends. Lucy raised an eyebrow and Billie smirked
"We're in a band," he explained, pulling her up and leading her back to the truck.

Lucy said her goodbyes when Mike dropped her off at home, promising to see them the following day.
"Good first day?" Her brother called from the kitchen when the door shut.
"Has worse - made some friends," she answered, going to join him and making herself a snack. She headed straight for her room, grabbing her camera and fiddling with it as she reflected on the day and her new friends.
