It Cannot Get Any Worse

An Empty Room

When Darrin pointed, Todd kicked the door on the right stairway open and leaped into the room, gun at ready. He was nervous. He had been on hits before, but he had never actually shot anybody. He did break a guy’s fingers once. If he could do that, well pulling a trigger was nothing.

The room was empty. It was a typical basement game room with an air hockey table, a tv a couch and a ping pong table. Bookcases lined one wall. A small trampoline for jogging sat near the bookcases. He called out “Empty room” so Darrin could hear him. Some kind of moaning and crying seemed to be coming from behind the bookcase. That was odd.
