It Cannot Get Any Worse

Busted!

Cjersti Chapman cuffed the guy who had just tried to kill her and shoved him into the back of the squad car and locked the door. The back of the car was built to be a cage. It would hold the guy, especially in handcuffs. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw two men run to the house and kick in the door. She ran after them as they disappeared inside.

Inside the house, she stopped. She could not hear anything. The historic house had been added onto various times during its two hundred years and it was a maze of rooms and doors. She began to wander carefully around the house, gun at ready. In the library, she heard a loud trumpet blast followed by a gunshot. It clearly came from the basement and the stairs were right in front of her. She heard a second gunshot from the basement. Was she too late? Cjersti literally leaped down the stairs in a single giant step and turned to the right where she thought the trumpet sound had come from. A man was standing pointing a gun down a long hallway. “Police! Don’t Move or I will shoot” she yelled leveling the shotgun.
