Chapter Seven: Drifting Apart

Groaning as he opened his eyes, Neymar reached up to clutch his head as the pounding headache seemed to get worse as he took in his surroundings; his living room was a mess and people were passed out around him.

Slowly sitting up, Neymar tried to blink the sleep from his eyes as he tried to remember exactly how it had come to be that he was sleeping on his living room floor.

The night before was a blare in his mind and he knew that he had missed his call with Valeria because of his plans; he felt bad but his father had insisted that it was a good way to make friends on the team.

The last couple of weeks had been pretty busy and if he wasn’t dealing with training or matches then his father had planned every moment of his social life to keep him busy.

Neymar couldn’t even recall the last time that he’d actually spoke to Valeria that wasn’t rushed or leaving her a message on her voicemail.

They just kept missing one another and he knew that he was to blame, things had been so much easier when they had been able to see each other every day.

Getting to his feet, Neymar staggered through his home heading for the kitchen careful not to stand on anyone as he went; he didn’t know anyone here and he wondered just who is father was bringing to his home.

The mess in the kitchen was so much worse than in the living room and Neymar dreaded cleaning up; he knew that he couldn’t avoid it and he had training later on that day.

Collecting a bottle of water from the fridge, Neymar leaned against the counter as he thought about his actions as of late; he knew he wasn’t impressing anyone with his behaviour and he couldn’t continue on like this.

Things might have been going better but that didn’t mean that he was willing to mess things up; Neymar wanted to prove that he was worth the money that had been paid for his transfer and all the trouble that had come with it.

Barcelona were demanding that he pay back the contract renewal bonus he received as well as €8.5 million in damages and an additional 10% for the arrears; he wished that things could have ended differently.

However, there was little that he could do about it now and his lawyers were going to contest the case since it did seem a little bitter of Barcelona to ask for the money back just because he had transferred a year after he had signed a new contract.

Shaking his head, Neymar glanced at the clock on the wall knowing that he had some time before he had to be at training; he might as well have a shower and go to the home gym for a while.

There was no point in trying to contact Valeria since he knew that she was at work and he would try to call her tonight when he got home from training.

His father would probably have big plans for him tonight, not that Neymar wanted to do much; he would rather stay home and relax for once instead of attending restaurants and heading to clubs.

Neymar Sr was determined to make the most of his time away from his girlfriend, he wanted to show Neymar that there was more to life than settling down.

Neymar had no idea what his father had against Valeria, other than the fact that she wasn’t a high-profile model like his last was; he liked that he felt normal when she was with him.

He couldn’t wait for her to come and visit in a couple of weeks’ time, he had so much planned for her visit and he was going to make the best of it even if it was only for a week.

Pushing away from the counter, Neymar sighed wishing that Valeria would come and visit soon; he hated that they had started to drift apart like this.

Pressing a hand into her abdomen, Valeria squeezed her brown eyes closed as she tried to ignore the stabbing pain that had appeared again; it had started a couple of days ago and she had no idea what it could be.

The pain was so much worse than the normal cramps that she got with her period and she wasn’t due for at least another week; it baffled her that this was happening.

Taking a deep breath, Valeria was relieved that the children in her class where currently enjoying their lunchtime; she didn’t want to scare them while she was in pain.

She had made an appointment with her doctor but the only appointment available that was close was for the next week; she was hopeful that her doctor would be able to tell her what was going on.

Once the pain had subsided, Valeria stood up straight and smoothed down her outfit; she truly hoped that it wasn’t serious and she knew that this was the least of her problems right now.

It was hard to ignore what was all over the papers these days especially when it was her boyfriend of three years out partying nearly every night.

The pictures weren’t the only thing that had her worried for the state of their relationship; she hadn’t spoken to Neymar in weeks and she hated that things had continued to get worse for them.

This was the last thing that she had wanted when she had made the decision to remain in Barcelona while he moved to Paris for the transfer.

At the time it had seemed like the right thing to do but now Valeria wasn’t so sure, she was so worried that soon she would hear some scandal that her boyfriend had cheated on her.

Valeria took a seat at her desk, she loved teaching and it was all that she had ever wanted but it might just come at the cost of her relationship if things didn’t turn around.

The pain started up again and Valeria couldn’t help the tears that formed in her eyes, she couldn’t help but feel scared; she had no idea what was going on and she hoped that her doctor would be able to quickly find out what was wrong.

Resting her head on the desk, Valeria had asked her mother to come with her; she had been a little nervous about attending the doctor’s alone.

There was so much that could be wrong and Valeria doubted that her google search of her symptoms had helped; nothing that she had read eased her mind and she wished that she could talk to Neymar about it.

This didn’t feel like something that she could leave him on the voicemail and she knew that it wasn’t likely that she would catch him on the phone anytime soon.

The sound of the bell made Valeria groan, lunchtime was over and soon her classroom would be filled with children; she was going to have to ignore the pain that felt like she was being stabbed.

Getting back to her feet, Valeria forced a smile to her face as her class returned; she moved to write on the board as she prepared for their next lesson of the day.

“Did everyone have a nice lunch?” Valeria asked, her eyes sweeping the room once everyone had returned to their seats and she was ready to start the next lesson of the day.

The children were wonderful and Valeria knew that this was the reason that she had gone into teaching; she couldn’t imagine doing anything else with her life.

“Okay. Now we are going to do some art,” Valeria announced knowing that the kids looked forward to and it was something that she could easily do while she was in pain.

She loved teaching and she couldn’t see herself doing anything else but the pain that she was feeling didn’t make her job any easier.

The sooner that she went to see the doctor, the sooner she could find out what was going on with her body.
