Song of the Swallows

Two

“I’m telling you, girl. I really think you should have accents of gold in your wedding! It would be a perfect addition to everything!”

“Oh jeez, Alexis. Jimmy is the type for darker colors! I don’t know how he’d feel about something sparkling and glistening. Maybe the bouquet could be that color, but I’m not sure about the dresses or anything the men would wear.”

Wedding planning was stressful, and that was something any person could vouch for. Leana MacFadden was that lucky lady that was joining Jimmy Sullivan’s hand in marriage, as he happened to show how serious he was when it came to their love, even though it was pretty early in their relationship. Insecurity was something that occurred with him, and she truly couldn’t complain about it. It gave her the reassurance that he meant well.

Her sister Alexis, was the type to throw entirely extravagant ideas into the open when it came to their wedding plans, but it was almost like she didn’t understand the two of them. Then again, Jimmy was always hard to understand. No one was even sure if he could understand himself from time to time.

“Le, you never know! Maybe he has a fetish for things that sparkle!” Alexis’ joke went up in a blaze, trying her best not to laugh.

“Alex, if he had a fetish for things that sparkle, he may as well change his name to Edward Cullen. We all know he didn’t like that movie, when we all went to see it. He’d be the burning vampire, not the glitter-faced heartthrob.”

Leana could hear her sister cracking up on the other line, her own lips curling into a smile. As true as her statement was, she couldn’t help but find it slightly funny. Her humor was one of the many reasons Jimmy found a life with her. Of course, even if she couldn’t tell the best jokes in the world, or manage to brighten up a room with her puns, her personality alone was enough to keep his spirits bright.

“What time is he even coming home? Shouldn’t the two of you be giving some pre-consummation for your marriage?”

If her cheeks could heat up any more, they’d probably melt right off of her face. Leave it to Alexis to show up with a blunt comment.

“Oh, stop it! I’m starting to grow convinced that you have some sort of harbored feelings towards him, and just want to see him with his shirt off again!” Leana couldn’t help but give some snide. It was sarcastic however, since she could never hate her sister for anything she’d say or do.

“What can I say? You have a hot husband-to-be! You can’t blame me for finding a liking to him after seeing him at Ozzfest back in o’six!” There came that bluntness again. “Alright girl, I’ll let you go. Got work in seven hours, and should probably get some form of sleep. Send me a text message when you decide on the color, so we can get down to business!”

A few words were exchanged, before their call finally ended. Her sister’s question did sort of linger in the back of her mind, but she knew he was busy trying to get the new album produced and mixed before the next year began. She could only hope that he was staying safe though. He tended to get a little out of hand with his partying every now and again, but it wasn’t her issue to get involved with. He was an adult and surely could take care of himself, and would know how to get help if he truly needed it.

Three o’clock in the morning came slowly, possibly even slower than trying to swallow a mound of molasses. The only reason she could make any mention towards that time, was because that was when her fiance decided to come stumbling through the front door. The sound startled her, but it wasn’t anything entirely out of the ordinary.

Leana made her way into the living room, upon hearing his keys jingling and being tossed into the basket on the coffee table. Her first impulse was to walk up to him and wrap her arms around him, to show she was pleased he was home safe. She knew to keep her distance however, and to let him get situated before doing so.
