Black Blood

Chapter One

I had been on my way home, after one of my usual nighttime walks, and then suddenly the world had gone black. When the world had come back my hands and feet were bound, there was a gag in my mouth, and a pounding in my head that intensified with every bump the truck I was in went over.

The air nipped at my fingers, and bit through my clothes, a dull chill spreading slowly through to my core. I shivered violently, my teeth clenching tighter around the gag in my mouth. The person bound next to me moved closer.

They whimpered, and I leaned closer to them instinctively to comfort them. I shivered more, and looked over the people in front of me to watch the silhouettes of trees go by.

Wherever we were headed, there were no street lights along the way- only the moon offered just enough light with which to see.

The truck moved onto a gravel road then, the familiar sound of tires moving over rocks and sending them flying up against the underside filling my ears. The way got a whole lot more rough. The person next to me and I ended up bumping against each other painfully, so we leaned against each other more in an attempt to lessen the impact.

Tall fields and trees rose up to surround either side of the road, and the moon disappeared with them. I squeezed my eyes shut tightly.

Considering I had just been abducted, the dark should have been erased off my list of fears for the moment. But as soon as the moonlight was gone it was as if the darkness was reaching out to devour me. There was another whimper, and I realized that this one was from me.

The cold, dark drive over gravel continued a while. The moon and its light came back into view after what seemed like ages, and with it a large yard and mansion surrounded by the trees came into view as well. My eyes widened. What kind of place were we being taken to? And by who?

I looked across from me to the other two people who were there, noticing for the first time that their eyes were covered. I looked to the one next to me, and their eyes were also covered. I shivered again. For some reason my eyes being left uncovered didn't bode well for me.

We approached the mansion seemingly slowly over the gravel road, but it was only that way due to the large distance left to cover. The closer we got the more I could see. The moon was even brighter over here. There were several figures standing around the mansion, and as we got even closer I could see the silhouettes of what were most likely guns in their hands.

How I wished for a blindfold at that moment. I would have rather been oblivious to whatever my fate might be. If they were to shoot me I hoped that it would be in the head, even if I remembered reading that there would be a small chance of surviving the wound.

"Hey, how come this one's not blindfolded?" one of the men called once we were finally there. He aimed his gun at me, and steadied his finger over the trigger, but he didn't squeeze.

"What? One of them can see?" called one of the men from the truck cab.

"Oh, it don't matter," said another one from within the cab. "They was all drugged enough to be knocked out for hours. No way it could find its way back, even if it could get away."

"Fine," the man with the gun said. He lowered the weapon- only a little ways- and hopped up into the back with us. He cut the binding around my feet and then grabbed my arm roughly, lifting me up and pushing on the small of my back toward the side. I assumed he expected me to jump down.

I whimpered and jumped. The others followed not too long after, though more clumsily as they couldn't see. I was nudged forward by the dark haired man with the shotgun. The truck pulled away.

"Welcome, welcome," dark hair said. He stepped forward with us, and the other men with their guns aimed them toward us. "This is to be your home, for however long you have left of your lives. There is no escape, so don't even try. Let's get a move on. Kyle will escort you to your quarters."

"This one's got real pretty blue eyes, and nice red hair," a blond man with a pistol grabbed at my chin before I could pass him. "Just the way I like them." I shrank back from him, his hand slipping from my chin. The dark haired man stepped in between us.

"I picked that one out special for master Ethan," he growled. "So don't even think about it, Kyle." Blond hair raised his hands in surrender.

"I won't touch whatever is promised to the master," he said. He glanced sideways at me then. "No matter how pretty it is."

I wanted to cuss him out then, both of them, to tell them I wasn't anyone's property. I couldn't because of the gag, so I settled for glaring and flaring my nostrils at him, about to take a step toward him.

Dark hair used the butt of his gun to stop me. I glared at him instead.

"Move along, girl," he said. I did as I was told.

The others' blindfolds were removed once we were inside. We moved along darkened halls, each seeming to have more halls that led in other directions, and I felt lost almost instantly. Learning my way around the place would prove difficult. The mansion was a maze that would take ages to map out.

"While your main purpose here is to be our food," Kyle began. My eyes widened and I heard whimpers from the others. "You will also be the cleaning help around here. The last humans we held here died, and since then the place has become quite a mess. And to reiterate what Anthony said... Don't try to escape. It will not end well for you."

He paused and grabbed my arm, drawing me close. He leaned down so his face was a mere couple of inches from my own.

"Except you, girly," he whispered. His breath made me want to vomit. "Feel free to try. It would give me a free pass to do whatever I want with you before we kill you."

His canines seemed to grow longer in that moment- much longer, as he released me and drew back. I stood there frozen. He turned away and continued walking, gesturing down halls and through doors as he described their purposes and what we were to do with them. I absorbed none of the information.

Instead I thought about his teeth and how he had called us food. How they had a 'master' named Ethan. It almost reminded me of a certain TV show with a certain blonde, monster-slaying heroine as the star.

"Come along, girly," Kyle's demand brought me back to reality. I did as he said, jogging a little to catch up with the group.

There was no such thing. These were just seriously twisted people who needed serious mental help.
