You Were Meant for Me

Chapter Three: Still drunk in a karaoke bar

*Lauri’s POV*

I watched Wynter’s face as the music started, and she mouthed a “fuck you” in my direction, causing me to laugh. She started moving her head with the music then began singing. You could hear the uneasiness as she started, but soon she was getting into the music. I really had picked the perfect song for her. She did a little dance, making her long blonde braids fly behind in different directions. She had everyone in the bar watching, giving her their undivided attention. She was beyond talented! I had no clue why she wanted to be behind the songs she wrote.

Halfway through the song, the man of the hour strolled through the door. When I called Ville to join us earlier, he was more than happy to come, even though he had just gotten back to Helsinki. Honestly, I wanted him to meet Wynter. He would enjoy her eccentric rants and strange ways. One of his best friends was American too, so he was bound to entertain her.

I greeted him and made room at our table for him to sit. He was going to say something, but was cut off by the applause of the crowd. Wynter took a little bow as someone drunkenly yelled for her to sing more. She went off stage for a second and disappeared into the dark, then returned as another song started. She sang her little heart out to a total of three more songs, and the people couldn’t get enough. You couldn’t hear anything over their applause after every number she did.

Ville hadn’t said a word since he sat down which was very unusual for him. He was intrigued by Wynter, I could see it in his face. His eyes followed her every move on the stage, his ears hanging onto every word she sang. I expected him to like her, but not in that way. I caught Aki’s worried glance and couldn’t help but feel the same. Maybe it was a bad idea bringing Ville to meet my cousin. He was a great person, but he had his personal demons. Granted, it was his ex fiance that caused so many of his problems. But Wynter seemed like such a sweet and innocent girl, so who was to say she’d even give him a second look. I hoped for my sake I hadn’t made a mistake because I had, I knew my grandmother would beat me with a broom then my uncle would kick my ass.

Wynter took one last bow before grabbing her drink and walking off the stage, right towards our booth. I got a lump in my throat as she got closer. Even through the smoke and dim lights, I could see her face wrinkle in confusion as she noticed an extra person in the booth. It was too late to send him away now so I downed another shot and hoped for the best.
